Anyone have any gold earning tips for a mount (Alliance)?

Well I play a NE Hunter (skinner and LWer) on Eonar and I'm about 10,000 XP away from 39 and I haven't played the game since last Friday so I figure I should be level 40 sometime this weekend. I have about 25 gold and I think it's about 90 gold in Darnassus for the training and mount. So I'm wondering if anyone here has any gold earning tips for getting that precious mount?

P.S. I'm beginning to hate grouping since my server seems to have an increasing population of greedy kamikaze vultures so assume i'm trying to earn this gold solo.

Have you already tried farming green loot from instances that are grey/green to you? I went into Wailing Caverns the other day with my level 30 paladin and came out with 8 or so green items I could have auctioned(level 16-22ish), a whole lot of leather, a couple of gems, and not much else other than having had a lot of fun soloing a no-Experience dungeon.

If you skin, skin and auction everything. Hunt in skinnable-heavy areas. If you fish, spend downtime fishing in Booty Bay or Ratchet for Oilies and Firefins.

I can''t really speak to your level or the most cash-rich areas, though. This is just things I do when I''m more concerned with cash than XP.

Another option, if you have the stomach, is to play the AH like a day-trader. Nab underpriced stuff on buyout(or gamble with a low bid) and turn around and resell it for more stable, established prices.

I am facing the same dilemma, I am coming up on level 41 fast and I only have about 40 gold (I already bought the riding skill).

What is your crafting skill Gdawg? I have had some success with gathering herbs and selling potions. But it seems I can get more for stacks of herbs than the actual potions.

EDIT: I am sorry to have been such a greedy gussy lately. I really like giving out stuff to guild mates, but I have turned into such a gold hog. Soon as I get my mount and skills, I will resume my giving ways.

Haven''t tried the green/grey instance looting. Maybe I''ll give that a try tonight.

Jimmdogg,

I''m a stereotypical hunter. Skinner and Leatherworker. Also been working on first aid since almost everybody drops silk cloth.

I had help with my last 30G but I paid it back faster than I thought I would be able to. Thanks Flux.

First off, if you haven''t already, you''ll most likely have to forego skill training for a few levels.
Second, don''t think you''re at a wall quest-wise. This was my biggest obstacle and still is to an extent. I''m starting to get really good at dropping and repicking up the damn Stranglethorn Fever quest because it just hasn''t worked out to have the right group (or the 10 fangs that is mentioned NO WHERE in the quest log) to start it. I know where ST Fever and a few others quests start so I can go back and and pick them up after I work on a different zone.
If you think you are hitting a wall (STV felt like this to me as it seemed there are always quests there and no hope of ''completing'' the zone) then move on to a new zone. If you''re in your high 30s/low 40s you should try Feralas and Tanaris and do some questing/killing there.

I always make more gold when questing, I''m not sure if it''s because I don''t focus on it or if it''s just because killing stuff is just something you do along the way.

I paid Flux back in about 3days and already have 18G again. Pretty much just by moving on to new zones and doing quests there or helping a pally (who got a free horse) catch up on quests and loot whoring (luckily Fiddler understands).

Here''s one trick to making some money with leatherworking albeit slow. It also depends on the price of thick leather in the auction house. Ten stack of thick leather can go anywhere from 50-90s. I would buyout all the stacks of leather if the buyout price is 60s. I would then buy some silken thread and make nightscape headbands which take 5 thick leather and 2 silken threads. I would vendor the headband for 45s.

60s on thick leather + 20s silken thread = 2 nightscape headbands = 90s

90s revenue - 80s in costs = 10s profit

Creating a nightscape headband takes a bit compared to other crafted items, so I would carry a bag of thick leather and 20 or so silken thread with me. I would create the headbands while waiting for a boat, afk while eating, or whenever I''m not out killings things gold. Those 10s can add up and help toward your mount money.

Ducki, did you have a tough go in WC solo? Level 30 doesn''t seem high enough to solo WC to me...

If you''re in the 30s, you''d get better drops and experience points by killing hostiles within 2 levels (+ or -) of your level than spending time picking up low-level loot in a beginner instance like WC.

i had good luck taking my initial capital and looking for trade goods that were marked at a buyout considerably lower than the average. buy and repost at slightly below the average. stacks of iron bars and heavy stone for example average around 2g at the AH on my server. every once in a while youll find a stack for 50-75s. I buy em out and repost at 1.75 g or so. puts a quick g in my pocket and also means i wont have to wait for those to sell before some one gets around to buying mine. Im a miner so thats how i initially noticed this, but ive always thought that having a good idea of what things are worth currently would be a great way to make money....and with a little investment/risk, one could really make a killing

I do runs through SM and Gnomeregan for fast cash. They nixed the ludicrously high prices on the blue drops off the bosses, but just hammering the low level guys gives coin and items quicker than I can make it off mobs my level.

Plus, it''s fun to shout things like ""Your day of reckoning has come!"" before mowing through them

Not sure if they have gimped it yet but Scarlet Monestary is great for gold farming. I was earning probably close to 10 gold an hour just killing the ghosts in the graveyard. In 2 evenings I got the 50 gold I needed for my mount. Depending on your class, it may not be all that easy to solo your way to the graveyard.

Where is WC? I have never even heard of it before.

The Wailing Caverns...it''s in the Barrens, just south of the Crossroads (Horde country).

I''ve been making a crap load of money doing mining. It takes some work but yesterday alone I made 12 gold just by selling copper and tin bars and I''m just lvl 20

Is there a place (like Thottbott) to get an idea of a starting point for goods? Like I can make some low level (but pretty good AL Vests for 15 and unders) leather goods and sell them, but I would like to know the ''fair'' price start so I don''t look like some high priced goober

Unfortunately, it all depends on your server as prices vary wildly from server to server. a7an''s trick wouldn''t work for me (even if my skill was high enough for it) as stacks of decent resources on my server always have buyout prices of several gold. Or at least all of them that I''ve seen recently. Even basic resources are grossly overpriced. I''m better off farming it myself . . .

Ducki, did you have a tough go in WC solo? Level 30 doesn''t seem high enough to solo WC to me...

While I didn''t complete the whole dungeon, I did kill 2 or 3 named ""bosses"". I really didn''t have too much of a problem, never did use LoH, but did use potions and invulnerability 2 or 3 times, though only on one of the named bosses.
Everything was grey with the occasional green, so it was true loot/cash farming, no XP going on. Also, the Tauren NPC at the entrance will buff you if you talk to him.

Then again, I am a paladin, and while I can''t distance pull, I''ve gotten good at reading the pathing at knowing when and how to pull just 1 or 2. Usually.

I wouldn''t recommend it to a Rogue or Priest, but a Hunter, Warlock, or maybe even Mage might be ok.

A rogue could just stealth through the whole thing and kill the bosses.
Now a priest...they''d be dead.

Yeah, I know, but then I''d be getting xp. The point was a)have fun soloing an instance, b)find some cool hand-me-down loot, c)not gain xp, trying to stay close to Peecaboo. I accomplished all 3, and then made some cash fishing for Oily Blackmouth and Firefin Snapper when I was done.

Well, that makes perfect sense then.

For the record, my last trip into the WC was solo when I was at a low-mid 30s level. I picked up one misc. quest for it in the Undercity well after I''d already done all the other WC quests and decided to go ahead and do it. It was kind of fun to wipe the entire instance by myself.

As a 25 mage I can not get far at all into the deadmines. Elites just have too much health and there is not a lot of room to manuver in dungeons so just not a good mix.

It was ok coin though so farming grey elites can really help your coin purse.

I recently went into the Stockades solo and that was fun. No loot, low XP, good coin. I was able to clear a few doorways past the first intersection, but somehow, due to the lag, I believe, my Verigan''s Fist disappeared when I came out. I miss it. I''ve got a GM ticket in, but am really worried that I''m going to be stuck without my favorite piece of equipment. *cry

A mage might have a better time if they had improved arcane explosion that makes it insta cast. Mana shield plus AE might make a fun night of grey slaughtering.

Some misc drops from mobs actually sell for quite a bit. The tip is buy enough big containers. When you enter a new area, try picking up all the drops. Sell them to merchant, and you''ll find out which one gets you the most coins. Whisker from lions near dalaran actually sell for 5 silver each. Beaks from the birds in Desolace sell for 14.

It is but it is mana intensive.

There are a couple of paths that I''ve seen people take in dealing w/ getting a horse.

1) Cut back on purchasing of skills (I''ve seen Curb do this)
2) Farm like crazy (me for my priest''s mount, Curb to an extent, Cope)
3) Just wait until the time comes (Organica got his mount at 50 I believe, but he already has a travel form)

I can mostly speak of option 2. I farmed the SM graveyard like crazy on my paladin (he seems more designed for farming than my priest). Starting with all 10/12 slot bags empty other than the one w/ pots, bandages, stone etc and getting most or nearly all full (make heavy bandages out of silk) was 15-20g, not including the greens. The key to the graveyard are the non-elite ghosts who do not have the drop tables of non-elites. >> It is mind-numbingly boring (it will feel like EQ). You will probably get a little burnt out on the game. <<

Auctioning is kind of iffy. At your level, most of the green drops will be the lower 30s... that''s in the range of SM drops. With others farming that area, it is very difficult to auction something off (items, not tradeskill stuff) in your level range.

I ended up selling all the herbs that I had saved up in my bank. Stacks of 20 were bringing in 2-4 gold each, even for pretty common stuff like Liferoot. Rarer stuff (wildvine) was selling for 1 Gold each. I had a ton saved up. It''s sad that the raw materials sell for more than the finished product. I was struggling to sell greater health pots for more than 75sp. I could make way more money just selling the herbs.

I vendored all my Soulbound blues that I had been saving, but was never going to use. I found one kickass blueprint that sold for about 15 gold. That was a random drop in Desolace.

I got my pretty little pony, and she is awesome. I even had enough left over to buy some of the skills I had passed on.
