WoW Blackhand Problems

I think Blackhand must have been pulled this evening (Saturday) after the Horde atack on Sentinal Hill and in Westfall. I witnessed it- a disaster for the PvE player, as the NPCs and quest givers/completers were all killed off, in a matter of minutes. Weird to see the Gryphons taking wing to fight the Horde...

In any event, I walked to Stormwind and found the lag there to be pretty bad; then Stormwind came under attack (I don't know by whom) then I crashed out in a shop.

I couldn't log back in, so played on Llane for a while; when I tried to log back into Blackhand, I saw it had been taken down.

Cool! I didn''t know they would do that. Still, they ought to be able to handle serious raids without server problems.

I got booted out at about 10:45 EST and I was able to re-log in right away. It was the first time anything like that has happed to me.

Cool! I didn''t know they would do that.

Yeah, they instituted that in the beta. If a flightmaster is attacked, guardian mobs spawn to help defend him.

Yeah there was a Horde raid last night also... tremendous lag even though I was no where near the raid..

We got booted...couldnt get in a for about 15 minutes...when we did get back the lag went from crippling (you''d hit attack and 15 seconds later something would happen) to just annoying for the rest of the evening.

I really hope Blizzard starts making this issue #1 and stop looking at anything else until this is resolved..

I dont want to see anymore class balancing until this issue is fixed.

Is this specific to Blackhand or is it all of the heavily populated servers?

This is odd. I was on the Blackhand server until about 1:00am and I never got a hiccup.

I remember seeing chat about the Horde raid but I never experienced any lag.

I got booted myself during that raid, but I was in Ironforge. I thought I heard mention that it only affected people in that side of the world. Chat over general was saying that people would have half of their guild knocked off and the other completely oblivious to any problems.

Played again yesterday (who didn''t) and another raid on Sentinal Hill showed up in the 10-11:00 PM EST time; apparently a lot fewer raiders and some relief (In the form of 50+) players showed up to help. I didn''t see it- just heard about it. Also, just before that, an attack on all of the Westbrook Garrison.

This is really a nuisance.....

I like the raids because they add some excitement. I killed another Horde player yesterday as well. One a day, keeps the scum away.

<sigh>....the bad part about this was: yes, it was exciting....I just keep thinking about consequences- as in if you are just about to go into the final battloe in the Deadmines and...poof! server goes down.....because of this nonsense....

The WoW official forums hava a couple of threads about this; lots of boasting.

If you''re saying that it''s a nuisance that the server lags when there''s a ton of people in the zone I agree...

If you''re saying that it''s a nuisance that Horde is raiding a lower level town of yours, then I have no sympathy. It''s been a daily occurance for the Alliance to raid towns like Tarren Mill and the Crossroads for weeks now.

Really? That''s not right, either- thanks for bringing it up.

The sooner PvP/Battlegrounds goes up, the better......

[edited for spelling]

My only issues with the raids on pve servers like ours is the lag. Other than that, I''m all for them. I loved playing ""capture the flag"" in DAoC. Wow is designed to allow these sorts of raids...theoretically.

My only issue with them is the server problems...and that''s hardly the Horde''s fault.

It''s part of the game. I''m on a PvE server so its not real bad. I can see how PvP would be annoying though. I have a horde alt and I saw a raid on the Crossroads w/ 50+ Allaince. It was awesome (I was an orc warrior). Bodies everywhere, I died many times!

I find it really makes the ""grind"" a lot better. You have something fun to do @ lvl 20+ other than grind out exp.

I bagged me a lvl 20 Undead Warlock that attacked some NPC''s last night in the Wetlands (Dragonblight server). I was thrilled. Let a lvl 28 Tauren Warrior go, he was just hunting dragonmaws.

Snaekolf (lvl 27 hunter)

I don''t see how killing someone seven levels lower than you who''s working on a class required quest is something to brag about, but maybe that''s just me.

I agree to an extent. If the other side is just hunting, or moving through I''ll leave them alone even if PvP is enabled. I left that Tauren Warrior alone and another two undead warlocks later...all PVP enabled...

But, when you attack NPC''s that other people rely on for quests you are fair game in my book. The lower level players will call out for help because they can''t complete quests, and I know I''m not the only one the has been smashed by a much higher player.

Got killed as a lvl 10 priest after healing a level 30+ warrior during a raid...I didn''t think that was out of bounds...part of the fun of the game.

It isn''t World of Peacecraft. If you accept an optional quest that you know is going to get you flagged PvP, you do so at your own risk.

I 100% support the legitimate* PK''ing of members of the opposite faction and faction raids into opposing territory... (Note: My highest level character is 16 so I''ve never done the giving but have been on the receiving end of these raids multiple times... mostly by Alliance into Horde territory.) ...if it didn''t cause the server to crash like it does.

I really want to see Blizzard work on nothing else until the server stability problem is resolved. Unless they are architected differently, I suspect the lag will be a problem in the Battlegrounds if they are as popular as I hope they are.

*Ganking newbies is not legitimate but even on the PvP servers, the sub-20 zones are PvE so it''s pretty much a non-issue... but since we''re talking about Blackhand, I''ll not delve further into that side of the discussion.

This is not an optional quest. A level 20 warlock in wetlands is working on acquiring his level 20 pet, the succubus.

Regardless, I didn''t say that it was bad to do what he did. The mechanics of the game are what they are, and a flagged person is fair game. What I found laughable is that a level 27 is ""thrilled"" to kill a level 20 who''s working on a quest...

Adding to Strekos'' comment, it seems that you don''t always know (when accepting a quest) that it will turn you into gankbait. There should be a tag/label for PvP-enabling quests, just like ""Elite"" and ""Raid"". Let me know before I even invest one minute into a quest that I''m going to enable my PvP flag somewhere down the road/chain. On PvP servers, whatever, but for those of us that prefer PvE, or to at least be able to make the decision, it''s uncool to spring that sort of thing on us. And ""read about it on thottbot or allakhazam"" isn''t a valid response - Blizzard should let me know if I''m going to throw my flag since I''ve decided to play in an environment that prevents random ganking/unexpected PvP.

I see. Thanks for the clarification. I''m not sure if that makes it a poorly-designed quest or what but I agree with Ducki that it would be fair of Blizzard to give a more obvious warning that you''re going to get your PvP bit flipped.

I don''t play Warlocks so I didn''t realize that...he was acting like a rabble rouser. I do feel bad now that I know.

But, not too bad...what about the low level dwarves (I did it at lvl ?9-10?)who had to run the gaunlet to the wetlands and report to the guy he just shanked? Now they''re in big trouble...It works both ways.

This is how the game was designed. And I like it this way. I guess when I get a kill in PvP I''ll just have a respectful moment of silence from now on.

So begins the PvP vs PvE battles for WoW.

Basically this game is set up to force PvP on you at various points be it people killing off all the NPCs in an area or at times being flagged for a quest you need to do. If your PvP flag is set I know I am certainly going to attack you. Heck I was in a battle at Sentinel Hill where I am a level 19 mage fighting against 50+ horde guys.

Personally I like the PvP but I know people do not.

I accidentally PVP''ed an NPC in the eastern coast of Azshara (?)

There''s a tiny town by the sea and just outside is this one lone NPC sitting by a fire. Now, I should have known it was a male NE and not a female troll just by looking, and the fact that there were four Night Elf players (all higher level than me) huddled around the same fire REALLY should have clued me in but noooo... Mr. Brainiac tries to ""talk"" to the NPC and somehow talks with his mace instead. Wham! Understandably the 4 Night Elf players sitting around the fire with said NPC got a little perturbed.

Oh sh*t... Ghost Wolf!!!! So I run out of there like I''d busted open a hornet''s nest, (which in effect I HAD) and spent the next 15 minutes fleeing from pissed off Night Elves. That''s one time I wish interfaction talk worked.

""Ouch, Ouch! I''m sorry! It was an accident, I''m {ableist slur}! I thought he was a troll! Hey! You don''t care do you? Ouch! Ouch!""

I took a beating but Ghost Wolf, once again saved the day.

""Ouch, Ouch! I''m sorry! It was an accident, I''m {ableist slur}! I thought he was a troll! Hey! You don''t care do you? Ouch! Ouch!""

bwhahahahahahahaha. Oh, that''s funny.

I had a great time last night. I was grouped with a lvl 57 Rogue and Optimistic in Felwood and we had just finished completing all of the quests there. We were on our way back to the camp to turn in the last 2 quests we had completed and I was much further down the road than the other two when I see this yellow named ghost wolf come running down the road. A big smile crossed my face as I realized it was a PVP marked horde player, and he was 4 levels higher than me. I got off my mount and immediately attacked, knowing I had support coming down the road in a few seconds. The horde character passes me than realizes how low a level I am and decides he was going to teach me a lesson. This ended up being perfect because now his back was turned to the direction my party members were coming from and just as I had predicted we smoked him!

It was fun to watch the Horde players reaction. When he thought he had me 1 on 1 he came straight after me but as soon as our rogue stunned him and I rooted him he panicked and didn''t know what to do. It was just too easy.

Hehe, nice ambush Gaald.

Great story, Gaald. For some reason, as I read it, I actually pictured it from the POV of the Horde player and imagine myself going ""wah?!"" when I got ambushed... and it still LOL''d. The sad thing is that he probably didn''t realize that it was semi-planned (by you, at least) and just figures he got unlucky that there were other random Alliance players coming up the road behind you.

We were in Ashenvale and we decided to ambush some of the Horde that had been raiding in the area. So we had a female in the party lie down in the road with pvp on, while the rest of us hid behind large trees or used invisibility talents.

Kind of backfired on us, as the first Horde that ran across us was on a mount (we were all around 35th level at the time). But we outnumbered him, so we attacked. Then the rest of his mounted party showed up.

It was not pretty.

There was a lvl 43 Horde running up and down the main road of STV a few nights ago with his PVP flag up. I saw a few 39-41 Alliance characters slow down to take a look. I slowed down as well to start healing them if they needed it. One of the players ran around a few minutes and then said ""It''s a trap, there''s a level 60 horde rogue stealthed."" We all ran on, and I started to see a pile of alliance bodies/skellies as I ran up the road.

Yeah Gaald that was awesome, I was down the road a few from you when I started to hear fighting and then ran over and helped out. I love PvP when I have superiors numbers!
