Come on Blizzard! We want it! World of Starcraft!

Ok, perhaps it is a silly idea, but I find myself fantasiziing about what it might be like. Play as Protoss, Zerg, Humans, etc? Interstellar travel... seems like with the huge success of WoW, WoS could be another major revenue stream. Blizzard could show those SW Galaxies guys how to do a sci-fi MMORPG.

Anybody have any thoughts, or is this a lame idea?

I wouldn''t mind checking it out.

Oh God... I''m already having enough trouble trying to resist WoW without having to deal with a starcraft mmo. Mind you, that I''m a bigger fan of Starcraft than of Warcraft.

I''m a bigger fan of Diablo than either ''craft game. I''m loving WoW but it has a lot of Diablo traits. I''d still love to see a Diablo III.

I''d have rather seen World of Starcraft or Starcraft 2 that World of Warcraft, so they''d easily sell me on this.

I''d be very much surpised to see Diablo 3 (although everyone knows it is money in the bank if they do release it). Seems to me WoW really is a kind of Diablo 3. I''d certainly love to see Starcraft 2 announced, as I was always a bigger fan of SC than WC, but with as much fun as WoW has been, it would be so cool to see a World of Starcraft.. They''d have to call it Worlds of Starcarft, though. The screenshots of SC: Ghost makes my mind race with visions of what a SC MMORPG might entail. A whole series of Marine classes - a warrior type grunt, more stealthy rogue-type Ghosts... and vehicles... vehicles would be so cool.

Predictions:

1) Diablo 3 will be announced at E3 this year.

2) Blizzard will charge a monthly subscription to play Diablo 3 on-line

I have no special insight or insider knowledge, but Diablo is too valuable a product for them to go too long without a sequel.

I''m curious what Diablo could offer this genre that Warcraft can''t do better...the reason I ask is that Diablo was the first Blizzard game I ever played. My (now) wife and I got totally addicted and then lost interest because there just wasn''t enough depth to it.

Warcraft seems to have a lot more potential for engaging storylines, in the long run....

I don''t see them making a World of Starcraft game anytime soon. I think it''s a safe bet that a large portion of their customers who would be interested in WoS are currently playing WoW. Why would they develop a completely new game, add new servers, just so they could steal players from there other game?

I also don''t know if they would go with DIII, since that might cause the same thing as above. The only difference would be if it was free, in an attempt to get those who aren''t going to pay for a MMORPG.

Instead, I am expecting them to announce Starcraft 2, or a completely new game. Starcraft 2 seems likely for a few reasons. For starters, they''ve done two major Warcraft games, plus an expansion. So, other then a WoW expansion, I don''t that a warcraft related game is going to happen any time soon. Second, I don''t believe Warcraft 3 is doing as well as Blizzard expected it to. Starcraft is still doing really well, even though it''s 7(?) years old, and Warcraft 3 should have taken over as the RTS. Finally, Blizzard is sitting on a goldmine with Starcraft 2, so you know it''s comming sooner or later, hopefully sooner.

With all the being said, I wouldn''t mind a WoS game, assuming it was different and wasn''t just orcs in space.

Polq, Diablo 3 WILL be announced this E3, or at least that is the current plan. They have been working on it for some time now. There are still no plans to charge a monthly fee for Online play, but I really didn''t ask about that specifically.

Everyone would play as Protoss.

I could see Zergs as very powerful in the early rounds, but they get weaker and weaker in comparison to the other races with each level up. That would force Zergs to band together, and thus force the Zerg rush. KEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEEKEKEKEKEKE

I''m very sorry for that last bit.

Hehe, not me. I always play Terran.

Starcraft 2. I want it. It''s been more than long enough to wait.

I agree, I cant see there not being a Diablo 3 or for that matter and 3D Starcraft 2 with destructible terrain and new camera similar to GC 2 and WH 40K and Rome TW. Even if they just used the Warcraft 3 engine it would be money in the bank.

I cant see Blizzard charging a monthly fee to play Diablo 3 online...

I''m not sure that really works..

While I''d like to see some sort of Starcraft MMORPG since there is a lack of SciFi MMOG''s I think we''re probably a ways away from anything like that..

I''d expect at least one more RTS if not 2 more before.

Heh, at least it''s good to know that www.starcraft2.com forwards you to Blizzard home page...

Hurry up you guys! We don''t want to see DN4EVER comming out before Starcraft 2, now do we?

Thanks for the confirmation. I''m really excited about the prospect of a new Diablo game. I do hope they keep Diablo''s dark fantasy style and don''t wuss out and make it cartoony.

And while I hope that they do not tack on any monthly charges, I think there is a lot of pressure from the money guys within the industry to build subscription based revenue generation schemes into games.

I think it will be a while before we see a good SciFi MMOG. I think there is a structural problem with the genre. The kinds of leveling activities and ability-gains that standard fantasy based MMORPG''s depend on, just seem kind of goofy and unrealistic in a SciFi context.

I would love to see a Diablo 3, keeping the dark theme and content as well. I would like to see a jump to graphics support at least to 1280*1024, positional sound (7.1 please) and a sweeping graphical update. Personally, I''d like to see a little more RPG and character development as opposed to wading into the baddies, but I may have to wait for Elder Scrolls IV or Dragon Age for that.

D3 offers something that games like WoW just can not and that is a good single player story.

Do not get me qrong WoW does that to some degree but not in the way a single player game can.

Hooray! Great news indeed!

Even though Starcraft 2 is ""money in the bank"", Blizzard is going to have to tread extra carefully if they don''t want a mob of angry fanbois. The expectations for this game are probably equal (or maybe even higher than) those for HL2 and Doom 3. The game will have to be ""perfect"", or Blizzard will get slammed BIGTIME.

(There will obviously be a small group of vocal Starcraft 2 haters, no matter WHAT Blizzard does. They''ll claim the original is way better than the sequel, and that Blizzard nerfed everything that was good. Won''t stop them from still playing SC2, of course!)

I also think that a Starcraft MMORPG is highly unlikely at this point.

There was a story in D2? I must have missed that while killing 1,000,986 little creatures that all were the same monsters - just different colors. Well Blizzard hasnt disappointed yet and I expect they will release a fine, quality product, but personally I thought there was more story in Warcraft and Starcraft then Diablo.

Don''t worry, Starcraft 4 will come out before that.

A Starcraft MMO would be awesome, I''d play Zerg all the time.

Terran Space Marine Firefly here - burn baby burn.

You know that intro for Broodwars where the Marine is geting clawed at by the Hydralisk?

All this talk of Starcraft - now I want to play it - will it run on XP?

It should, I played it a few months back on my XP Pro.

I just don''t see how a Starcraft MMO would work.

The thing that sets Starcraft apart from Warcraft is that you have three distinctraces. In Warcraft, yes, you have four races, but for all intents and purposes, they are fairly the same, and have pretty much the same units and strats (with a few exceptions).

With Starcraft, you have a race with little to no armor that strives on numbers, a race devoted to technology and protection, but lacking in mass, and a race that fits nicely in between. And they are all fighting each other.

How would you translate that into World of Starcraft? Would you limit the number of Protoss? Would you MAKE someone be a Zerg so that the sides evened out nicely? Would you forgo the PvPvP and just focus on the PvE?

I just don''t think it''s a realistic world to translate into a MMORPG. The reason it''s such a successful RTS is because the sides are SO different and really lend to a lot of tactics in game. Me being fast but weak and needing 5 friends to kill that guy over there with all the armor? Just doesn''t sound fun to me.

You mean FireBAT, right? /nitpicking

Looking for some propane accessories?

Yep thats what I meant - the voices were so cool. Its been years, but what fun it was.

You took the words out of my mouth. This is exactly what I was thinking... I don''t remember ANY story in D2, even though I played it compulsively, whereas in WC, SC, and WoW I have been totally caught up in the story. So single player games don''t necessarily have better stories. In fact, D2 played more like a MMO, really. Level-up level-up level-up!

I am very excited about what 2005 has to offer from Blizzard. They have convinced me that they are the premier developer in the biz with WoW. They took a genre I was totally uninterested in and made me LOVE it. Just the fact they haven''t released SC: Ghost, even though they could have cashed in and made a easy buck on a bad game. No, they''ve held off on a guaranteed million-seller to make sure it is a good game.
