WoW: Coming soon - 16 hour maintenance

Just logged into WoW this morning to find that they've changed the maintenance window this week to occur on Thursday 1/13/05 from from 4:00 AM PST (6:00 CST) to 8:00 PM PST (10:00 PM CST). The reason given is that they need to clear up lingering performance issues.

I'll at least give them credit for announcing this a couple of days in advance so that people can make plans, but dang - if they take the game down for 16 hours, it had better freakin' BLAZE when their maintenance is done.

Lets hope it fixes the lag spikes( at least on my server) that I''ve been getting several times a night.

Besides the queue that seems to have returned at peak times.. I really really hope this fixes the mail and AH lag for good. That''s the only thing preventing me from using the AH more. I dread going in there.

Well at least it''s not tonight as this is my dedicated game night! All other nights of the week I don''t know how long I can stay on past an hour, the wife aggro has been rearing it''s head. It hasn''t been this bad since beta... wonder if Blizzard can work on that.

We need to find some good questing tonight Eezy. I was able to do a few of the Uldaman prereq quests with McFinn last night.

I''m game I get home at 330PST or so I''ll hop on and be more social today!

Damnit all to hell! I am off work that day and was planning to play for a little while. And the last time I was off work during the week they had maintenace until 1:00pm.

I havent seen a queue since the first week of release..and even then it occured once..

The queue is back GG. Our server has it almost every night. Something has to be done about it ASAP.

You''re not on CrapHand.

I should be on for a few hours tonight. Let me know if you guys decide to hit Uldaman.

Thursday downtime is fine by me. I''ll be on a plane most of the day. You know, one good thing about going on vacation for 5 days is that when I get back I will have at least 1 full level of xp bonus waiting for me.

Perfect ... i get out of work at 8pm that night. Now only if it holds true that at 8 the servers will be back up! As with others, my only problem is the IF and AH lag, it''s getting pretty horrible.

You guys should move enmass.. that sucks. We''ve never had a queue.

Unless its dependent on Alliance/Horde..

Alliance does generally outnumber Horde on PVE servers 3 to 1

The queue aint so bad. Since it reappeared at x-mas, I don''t think I''ve waited in the queue for more than a couple of minutes. Sure, it would be nice if it went away but its better than it was.

I haven''t had a queue on Blackhand in about a month.

You will probably get a vote of about ~99% saying no to moving. I would rather quit than start over. Besides my level, I have a ton of time invested into blacksmithing. I think it will get better or that they will offer a server move in the next few months. My play experience has been great most of the time though. Just don''t want that queue and I want a better AH/mailbox experience. The rest of the game is butter!

oh god no..I wouldnt start over.. I''d wait until they offered a server move program.

And even then if I lost my gear in a server move I wouldnt do it.

I''m curious if they will allow moves between PVE/PVP servers..

I kinda suspect not.

I hope not either. Only offer moves to the same type servers would make the most sense.

I have not had a que on bloodhoof but I gett horrible lag spikes at times where on screen to me absolutely nothing is going on and it can be for like a minute then suddenly I am dead or something. They really need to fix these issues.

I am surprised they have not done transfers yet or even been prepared ahead of time t do this. All they had to do is watch a couple launches of the past to know that they should be ready for this mess.

This is one place where SOE is really standing out in that they did things like offer server transfers very early on, have no lag for me, no que, and generally seem to be have better server up time.

I hope Blizzard gets this stuff ironed out as the longer it goes on the more it distracts from the game.

I think that your ISP is to blame partly. Didn''t you have problems related to that? The reason I say this is because I don''t know a single person who has died to lag in the past month.

There''s been a small wait queue when I log in at 8:00pm PST nearly every night since New Years. It hasn''t been bad though. I''ve never had to wait for more than 2 minutes to get in. Nothing compared to what it was during the first few weeks after launch.

Edit to add: on the Blackhand server

Agreed, once the textures load and the pop loads I never experience lag like that unlesss I''m checking mail or using the AH, and even then it isn''t as bad as you''re describing.

If it is my ISP it for some reason will let me use TS, browse the net, and play EQ2 without a single problem.

I did have some internal network issues at home but that does not seem to be the problem since I can play EQ2 without issue.

There are bugs that I have experienced lately too that really stink such as my arcane missile spell casting, using mana, but not actually sending out missiles. Really hurts a bit since I am arcane spec''d too.

Do not get me wrong I been having some fun in WoW but it has been a bit bumpy ride.

Good to see you aren''t the only experiencing the weird arcane missles bug.

I ran intot he que last night, which sucked, but it wasn''t TOO bad. so..meh for now. 16 hour down time is goign to hurt. What I want to know is why they arent timing this so that it is happening early morning hours (Say 1:00AM server time)? Is it because the LAN team cries that they have to work odd hours? If that''s true, give me a break.

It''s the Australians. They complained when the western maintenance was happening at 5AM as it was midnight to them and they didn''t get to play all night.

I see where you are coming from so maybe you are having a problem similar to mine. On a Linksys wireless router, I COULD NOT play CoH at all. It wouldn''t load at the start about 95% of the time and when I did get in, it had a chance of not loading when going between zones (ie instance doors). That is the only reason I never played CoH. I took the exact PC that was on wireless and went to direct connect and it worked perfectly. On the flip side, using the same wireless setup, I played SWG for hours on end without a hiccup. I also played EQ1, Anarchy Online and DAoC on the same setup without issue. Just CoH had issues. You probably don''t have a wireless setup but keep in mind that some games don''t like certain ISP/router combos. The kind of lag you are describing is something I have not heard of since beta when they were running debug software.

Yeah, usually the queue for me on Blackhand at prime time isn''t too bad, but last night I was 300+ plus on the list. It was long enough that I had time to go downstairs, make coffee, read a chapter of ""Will"" (a novel based on William Shakespeare''s life) before i got to the character selection screen.

Once selected, I just gave up on doing any quests on the Dun Morough side as it''s too laggy to be playable.

On the upside, I did finish the 12th level paladin quest, so now my Pally can rez. Weeee!

Yep. Queue every night around 9pm PST. Usually 5 minutes or less. (BlackHand)

I am on an Lynksys wireless router actually. Guess I could install it on the PC that while wimpier has a wire connection to the router to see if that works.

Guess I''m lucky and just missing the queue, since I usually log in between 7:00PM - 7:30PM.

On the flipside the lag in IF seems to be getting worse every night. AH is almost unusable, it takes at least 5 mins for anything to pop up in the AH list, and creating auctions is even worse. Mailbox lag is bad as well but nothing like the AH.

It also used to be that IF (mostly by the Bank & AH) was the only place I would get the screen freeze type of lag, while running from place to place, but now it seems just about every zone I go to has it as well. Pretty much anywhere that more than 5 PC''s are on screen seems to cause problems.

Lag spikes are my only issue...sometimes I can get through a 4-5 hour session with zero..other times I get them a few times an hour.

Its especially annoying during escort type quests as for some reason (bad luck) on one particular quest 2 times now my escort has died due to lag spike.

I have yet to be killed by it and suprise suprise I never have a lag spike in an instance.
