WoW and EQ2 Reviewed in PCGamer

Real quick before I am off to the gym.

PCGamer reviwed both EQ2 and WoW.

WoW got mention on cover of mag no mention of EQ2.

WoW first review of the mag gets a 91%.

EQ2 is reviewed 30 pages later with a 78%.

Will give you all details later on the highs and lows but thought let you all know.

That sounds a tad low. Be interesting to hear why they knocked it, since they''ve generally given really high scores to the EQ1 expansions.

Well after reading it I have to say I can not say I agree with the reviewer on some of his points on EQ2 but to some up the lows from the rating box: Retreads old ground, caters to more hardcore.

Highs: Terrific Graphics, loads of content, impressive music and sound effects, few bugs.

His beefs seem to be that EQ2 does not break the mold. That while the Voice Overs are unprecedented they are mostly horrible and EQ2 requires a lot of time battling mundane beast. Then he also complains that you have to return to quest givers also as an artificial time sink.

Well that is my take on his article any way.

Yeah, 78% does seem kinda low. Return to quest givers? Is that unusual for an MMORPG?

I have no problem with giving WoW the higher score, it is more casual friendly and should be rewarded for bringing new addicts to the genre.

To punish EQ2 for doing what it does well but not breaking the mold? Come on, this is the same mag which said Doom 3 was best thing since sliced bread.

I also question the impartiality of pcgamer, just a couple of issues back they have a multi-page strategy guide as well as one of those ""buy both covers, they are collectors issues"" featuring the WoW orc and NE. Just a coincidence that there have been glossy fold out WoW adds?

I think if I was giving out scores they would be WoW 92, EQ2 87.

PC Gamer has been a WoW ho from the get-go with front page exclusives, special strategy sections, and offers for little action figures, so it doesn''t surprise me to see it get main billing at this stage of the game.

Can''t really argue with the score, though. The game is excellent. I probably would have rated it even higher than the 91% they settled on.

Can''t comment at all on EQ2. I bought the game, but haven''t tried it yet....and it may be a long time before I do, if ever.

Is anyone surprised by this?

LOL

And that would be the Collector''s Edition ''cause I wanted all the cool swag.

Glad I''m not alone...

Yeah I do not mind WoW getting a better score or higher billing but really thought the review of EQ2 was odd.

Having experienced SOE before, I''d say 78% is generous. But I doubt that side of things made it into the reviews. Wait a year or so, the complaints will have shifted from gameplay to support.

They just may Robear but so far SOE has been doing a bang up job for most part.

Servers and the like have been vert stable and the one time they had a hardware problem they keep us informed with almost hourly postings.

I had to use the petition system once when a bug made 3 items in my inventory dissapear. While they could not reimburse me the items they did at least respond. The response though was not a very good one so I opened another petition refrencing the first and they responded again with a clear/better answer.

Servers go down on a regular schedule and come up in the alloted time if not before.

The next big patch will be a test but do not see why it should cause any trouble over say getting patched on launch day.
