EQ2 Down (XP debt wipe and free time for trouble)

EQ2 Servers seemed to have expereinced some sort of database issue that caused some lost data this morning that has caused SOE to bring the servers down.

Characters will be restored from a 7am PST save file.

SOE is wiping all xp debt and giving some free time to all players because of the trouble.

So while EQ2 had a great launch seems they are having an issue now that hopefully will be repaired soon.

Yeah, wife and I just got back from the ballet ( Sucessful Wife Writ, positive faction gain will grant access to more EQ2 ), so was an ok night for the servers to be down.

In fact why am I even checking these forums? Gonna go hop into bed!

You know what''s really weird, My wife and I just got back from the Ballet as well! And I am checking the very same forum. You''re not me, are you?

(we attended opening night of the Nutcracker here is San Francisco. I guess that counts as ballet)

There''s just something about the words ""ballet"" and ""Nutcracker"" that make me cringe just a bit...

Yeah, we saw the Moscow Ballet''s (In NC, not Moscow) performance of the Nutcracker, and I just could not bring myself to write down the word ""Nutcracker"" last night.

Oh, I love the Nutcracker...it''s possibly one of my very favorite ballets. I''m so jealous. I generally don''t try to force the ducki into ballets and other poufy theatre things anymore. He doesn''t much care for them.

I actually love ballets and operas.

Not only are their servers still down, but their forums are down as well. Three days of outages in a row, I guess this is a signal that I should try out WoW.

Najena is up and i''m playing now, I would try it even if your server says down on the lancher.

Yes, but you are also going to room with Pyro, you''re just not right in the head.

I like the Nutcracker myself I have to say. My wife''s birthday is on the 22 of December and I like to take her out to plays and the like for it so we get a large number of Christmas type shows because of the timing.

Of course last year we went and saw Mamma Mia which I will say was great.

Cannibal bummer they been out 3 days for you it has been a bit over 24 hours for me since I got time to play Thursday. They do go down every day though about 7am pst which can be a pain if that is your play time.

Interestingly enough WoW had a small hiccup too but during launch but if you can get your hand on a buddy key I say why not give it a try you may like it better and if not you will have saved yourself $50.

I wouldn''t mind it going down for a few hours. But they are doing a freaking rollback. How hard is that? Its called restore backup. How in the heck does that take over 24 hours to do?

Sony Online Entertainment: We love our customers the way Hitler loved the Jews!

I have a confession - I took my girlfriend to see the Nutcracker two years ago and I fell asleep. Only for like two minutes, but she doesn''t let me forget it...

What is XP debt?

Didn''t WoW in the first stress test (and I assume earlier beta) have XP debt as well before going to the durability loss on items? Or is my memory just that bad?

Or is my memory just that bad?

It''s just bad, comes with age

In fact, the durability thing only came in late beta.

Didn''t WoW in the first stress test (and I assume earlier beta) have XP debt as well before going to the durability loss on items?

IIRC, they had an XP cost to getting rezzed by the spirit healer, but nothing beyond that. I think. I await correction by those in the know.

THAT''s what I was remembering. Thanks Chumpy.

And my aging mug sneers at Certis for his whippersnapperish behavior.

There was a loss of data from my understanding and it sounds like a harware problem.

I am sure they were trying to pin down the source of the data loss instead of just restoring data.

Be curious to see how much free time they give everybody for the downtime.

An Important Message from John Smedley 12/18/2004
Hello Everyone,

We sincerely apologize for the downtime this weekend. We had some hardware issues that caused us to have to tread very carefully in bringing the game back up. We wanted to triple check everything to make sure there wouldn't be any major problems, and it's taken a while to both fix the problem (we had to fly out engineers from one of our hardware vendors) and to bring each of the servers back online because of the careful validation process we need to go through. We have to do this very carefully and we hope you can understand our desire to do this right. We''re trying to balance that with getting the game back up as quickly as possible. So far most servers are back up and the rest should be up in the next 4-6 hours, hopefully less. I realize that ETA''s that come and go can frustrate people, so we do our best to give you the most realistic estimates possible.

Out of respect for our players, we're doing the following:

1) Every player will receive 3 free days.

2) Early this week (Monday or Tuesday) we will have a 24 hour period where we will have accelerated XP gain. Details are still being worked out and we'll communicate this to you as we firm up the plans.

We are committed to providing you with excellent service. Our team has been here for over 40 hours straight, and I can tell you our dedication to doing right by our players is the thing that's foremost on everyone's mind here at SOE.

Thank You,

John Smedley

President, Sony Online Entertainment

Make sure to play on that one day!! I need to take the entire day off.

This makes me think they are really doing a decent job of making things up to us and providing some decent customer support.

Make sure to play on that one day!! I need to take the entire day off. According to the forums it starts sunday at 7am PST with the update and lasts until tuesday!

Yeah I was on a brief time today before I head to head in to work and the XP bonus is in place as of 7am pst. They are giving 50% bonus to all adventure and crafting XP and it will be for 48 hours instead of the original 24 so not bad at all.

Yup, looks like the experience is being enhanced quite a bit. I created a challenging level object in crafting and received about 7% experience towards my next level. not too bad! looks like it applies to both crafting and adventuring xp.
