WoW: New Patch Sneak Peak - 12/16/04

Ha, hubbinsd! Good one!

GG, the trick is apparently you have to know what desirable for the intended class. Got a mail piece? If it doesn''t have strength and stamina bonuses, it''s effectively worthless. Cloth? Intelligence and spirit. Maybe intelligence and agility/stamina, but if there''s no intelligence bonus, vendor it. No one will buy it... at least not at the level it''s restricted to.

This has the interesting effect of making what seem to be virtually identical items vastly different in terms of value. One combination is worth five to ten times what a vendor pays and the rest are effectively worthless.

It''s not even that simple, there are apparently variations based on what piece you''re trying to sell (ie, mail wearers take a reward from a commonly completed quest for their shoulders, say, and so you can never sell a shoulder piece regardless of it''s stats to any mail wearer). I''ve basically given up and vendor everything. I will say this: when you''re presented with a bunch of useless reward choices upon completing a quest, take the time to hit thottbot and find out how much each is worth. I''ve had variation of over a gold in the sell values and if you''re going to have to suffer a poor reward choice, you might as well make as much as you can from it.

No mention of fixing the level 20 Paladin quest, jerks.

As a Shaman who now wheres Mail I can attest to how rare Mail items are that grant Int and Sta bonuses.

Luckily I have a guildmate that can make the TurtleScale Mail items..

So far I have the BP.. he''s farming for me to make me the legs, gloves and Helmet.

Though I''ve discovered how critical AGI is for a Shaman also...

What sucks is that Spirit is by far my highest stat..simply because it seems like every piece I have has Spirit bonuses.. of which I''m convinced is largely worthless.

No mention of fixing the level 20 Paladin quest, jerks.

Seriously. Maybe I''m an idiot, but why would this not be an easy fix? Even if it takes a guy going in every 6 hours and typing ''C:/games/wow/system/commands/add_daphne.exe'' or whatever.

Are you sure that the Paladin quest is still broken? I was running around Westfall for a couple hours last night was constantly hearing the yells of ""Kill her! And take the farm!"" like every 10 or 15 minutes.

It could easily have been a server-side fix that didn''t need to be ""patched"" so to speak.

Anyone have any mirrors for the patch? Blizzard''s bit torrent thing sucks. Probably getting slammed so it can''t stay connected to the tracker.

Is that it? I was wondering. Slow download of a quarter-meg or so... downloading stops for five minutes... slow download of a quarter-meg or so... downloading stops again... At this rate it''s going to take forever.

Ya, I don''t get their continued use of Bit Torrent. I mean, I know they''re saving money on bandwidth.. but damn, distribute the file out to File Planet or File Shack or any of those download warehouse websites. It shouldn''t take 10 hours to download a 40meg patch.

Yeah...this bit torrent thing simply doesnt work come patch day...

They need to have some sort of high bandwidth solution for patch day #1 and then move to a bittorrent solution for the rest of the days.

I don''t know, I pulled it down in about 30 minutes. If you have a router, make sure your ports are open!

Certis,

I think you should change your tag from ""CEO"" to ""The Groin Kicker"".

""It took you 10 hours to download? It took me 10 minutes! Did I mention that I work from home and play WoW with my Super Hot Wife all day?""

If you have a router, make sure your ports are open!

I''ve tried EVERYTHING, and still, the suck. This goes for every bittorrent related thing. I can very rarely even CONNECT to anything, and when I can, it''s about 2kbps down, and like 56kbps up... which feels dirty. I''ve read all the forums, and opened up all the ports, and still, nothing.

Would this have anything to do with having multiple computers hooked up? Having ""obtain IP automatically""? I''m running out of reasons why this isn''t working, and would love to figure it out.

Man, I couldn''t get it past 3.5 megs. Couldn''t connect to Tracker.

So I fired up the wife''s computer and it downloaded fine. So I think maybe the ""gaming profile"" for windows where I''ve shut off a bunch of unnecessary services is borking things, so I reboot and go back to default. Nope, still nothing. So I think, maybe in my cancellings of the torrent and changing to non-P2P, I''ve borked it, so I delete the patch file. Still nothing.

So, finally, I remember that I probably have a CD-R floating around, somewhere. Basically, I''m really annoyed at Blizzard''s patch process. Gimme a link where I can go in a browser and just download the file over HTTP or FTP just like a normal download file.

When I can''t download the patch, it''s not my computer. I''ve had no problems surfing the web, downloading MP3s and WMVs from game sites and music sites, I''ve even downloaded a torrent or two, so I know BT works on my system. It''s Blizzard''s implementation that is finicky.

Gimme an FTP url and I''ll just do FTP in the CLI. Jeeze, I hate patching WoW.

Glad it''s not just me with patching woes. And I''m sick of them telling me that I''m behind a firewall. Doesn''t seem to make any difference whether I poke the holes for the ports or not. Some of my machines have holes poked - others don''t. And I still have general suckiness with their downloads.

A ""Looking for Group"" channel has been added. Additional improvements in looking for group functionality will be added in future patches.

That was MY idea! It was one of my first /suggestion items from playing in the open beta toward the end. I pretty much said since everyone turns off the general channel so we don''t have to hear about what people were eating for dinner and why WoW is so much better than EQ, we needed a /lfg channel so we could find people to group with. I wonder how much gold they''ll give me for the suggestion...

None, you lvl 40 freak.

Catch of the Day quest in Desolace now requires 2 Bloodfish instead of the previous 5.

Argh!
The Blueleaf Tubers requirement of the Barrens'' Blueleaf Tuber quest was decreased to 6.

Thank heavens! I''ve 8 levels higher than this quest and I''ve died about 8 times trying to complete it. I''ve got 9 Tubers right now. I wonder if I''ll be able to turn in 6 and be done with it or if I have to get a new quest which only requires 6.
Some creatures in the outdoor world had much less armor than intended. This has been corrected.

Uh oh. I wonder how many people will find out about this one the hard way.

Any reviews of the patch changes? Has anybody actually played it yet?

I can''t play it if I can''t download it :(. Seriously, in this day and age with a brodband connection, 40MB should be (and usually is) nothing. Yet I''ve gotten less than 7MB in 1.5 hours. So much for playing at lunch today.

I just downloaded the patch in about 12 minutes, trying it now.

I know this is probably asking too much, but does anyone with more BT success have the ability to FTP the patch or anything? Even if it was just for a couple hours tonight, it sounds like it would help a BUNCH of us out. We could work some sort of thread as far as PMing the people who already have it and are able to share it. Hell, downloading through AIM would be quicker...

Got it downloaded, but running from the current Cosmos UI crashes the newly patched WoW 100% of the time (at least on my computer). Hope they can get a Cosmos patch out quick, because it''s really not much fun to play my hunter without the extra toolbar.

I must admit that Ironforge is quite festive, though!

Hoo hoo, the mind boggles! Can''t wait to see it.

If I see a bunch of undead guys walking around UC with Santa Clause hats on, I''m going to summon demons to eat all their souls.

LOL! Happy Holidays

Oh good lord.

Wow that looks crappy.

It''s taken me about 2 hours to dl it and its still going. I don''t think the problem is bittorrent, I have exceptional success usually when running a BT client so maybe it has something to do with Blizzard''s dl thingie.

Of all people Guru, I''d expect your shots to come out looking better than that!

Here''s a fast download -- took me 3 minutes
