OMG...HL2 MULTIPLAYER!!!

Absolutely. You just need to log off then log in with the new credentials!

Note, the new login will need to redownload the content THAT account has access to. I don''t think Steam will automatically share (maybe they fixed that), but I THINK you can just manually copy the steam folders for the games into the new account folder and it should work!

EDIT* If you look at the directory structure in your Steam installation it should become clear what needs to be where!

Oh, wow. I just played two rounds on a local server and I''m very sad to say it pretty much sucked .

I waited so long for HL2DM, but as it stands at the moment it is unplayable for me (nice 160+ ping). Getting repeatedly killed by people I empty whole arsenals into isn''t much fun.

The levels are a strange dichotomy: I ran around them a bit on my own and they seemed overly large. Two online rounds and 14 players later and they appear to be way too small. The layouts are also very non-dm like - illogical weapon placements and very poor flow. Where are the Crossfires, Valve? Where are the Stalkyards? Those levels were much more ""DMey"" and coped fantastically with lots of players.

The weapons are difficult to pin down with so little playtime (and the extreme lag also doesn''t help). I do not like that they spawn you with the grav gun (way overpowered IMO) and the machine gun. I want a crowbar and a pistol. The crossbow is as fun to use as ever, as are the shotgun and machine gun grenades.

The experience was not without its moments though. Detonating an explosive barrel someone is grav''ing around is a lot of fun :).

Please, Valve. Fix the lag and make the game more like a proper DM instead of a physics demo...

They can''t fix the lag. It has the same problem every new online FPS has, little Billys running listen servers on their phat DSL lines.

Lag will get away when decent dedicated servers show up. Give it a few days.

Maybe certis should set up a GWJ HL2DM server! Get cracking Cetis!!

First impression: Very frantic. I''m sure that''s what DM is all about, doesn''t mean I have to like it. The nature of the game HOWLS for the inclusion of team based gameplay. Maybe that''s coming... if not... BRING ON THE MODS!

I''ve not had the time to play yet, but there is a team mode. Rebels vs Combine. You just have to enable it with mp_teamplay.

Oh, and it''s full, but my dedicated server (not on a home DSL or cable connection) is available at 216.27.30.50:27016. I just set it up from work. I''ll probably attempt to play tonight.

I was playing on a server hosted on the backbone of the only telecoms provider in our country .

I was reading that someone released a mod that allows admins to adding settings. Apparently you couldn''t lower the player limit (14) to alleviate the lag in the valve release.

This is kind of off-topic: can you have several Steam accounts on one PC? (Without any ''tricks'' like having more than one OS installed or running several Windows users/accounts.)

i dont think that should be any problem.. there is an option in steam to log on with another user..
so im guessing you have have like, a million, steam accounts on a single computer..

Yeah, I wasn''t amazed by the levels too much either. But then again, it looks like they just took maps straight from HL2, edited them a little bit, then shoved them out the door. And thus you have some pretty nice cash prizes for user made maps. www.steampowered.com.

This might be a good time to start messing with HL2 mapping Mr.Green.

Er... ""maxplayers"" seems to work for me. Just like HL1, CS, CSS, etc. Perhaps they just weren''t looking in the right place?

Hrms, yeah I don''t know. The author just mentioned that his mod would enable admins to set number of players and add password protection and not sure what else.

Solution: Get a new country.

So far I''m really enjoying the HL2 DM. Sure there are only two levels for now, but it''s a great start.

I''ve had some good lag-free games today, minus the max 32 player matches. Those were a little outrageous. I''m sure it will even out over time.

All hail the gravity gun. I''m waiting for them to make a gravity gun only mode. Nothing was more satisfying than hitting someone with a toilet, or rolling a car over someone trying to get away from you.

Catching the toilet mid air then heaving it back would be fun. If only you could grab other players like you could in Jedi Knight.

Yeah. Throwing things back at people is great. And killing someone with a watermelon. Thats just beautiful.

He he, me and another guy played catch for about 30 seconds with a heater. We both had guns, but we both had apparently chosen to not use them in favor of the grav gun :D. The problem with play catch with a radiator, you don''t catch it, you die.

Yeah, I played for about a half hour last night, and even though the spawn points are HORRIBLY timed (I died three times in a row from the same person, who wasn''t camping the spawn necessarily, but who kept coming around to the spawn point I was at as soon as I showed up) I had a lot of fun. It got to the point where I was pretty darned good maneuvering those exploding barrels so I could see where I was going. And, when I figured out that I could get a one-shot kill with a radiator, I started using that too. It was always sort of disappointing to switch back to my gun - the Gravity gun is very, very fun.

It did feel a bit shallow, though. Here''s hoping for a CTF mod, at the very least.

I have now tasted the cruel, cruel irony that only HL2DM could serve up:

When I played (and adored!) HLDM no-one else (at least over here) wanted to play it online. For years there wasn''t a server. Then, when they finally put one up it was empty most of the time, so they took it down again.

Fast forward to the present: Now there''s HL2DM. I hate it, everybody else loves it. The one server we have () is basically full 24/7.

Oh, cruel fate! Why dost thou mock me so?

(Aside: I wonder if Epic perhaps brainwashed me with UT2k4 or something. Yea... maybe I should blame them instead! Do you hear that CliffyB?! You killed HLDM for meee!)

I have to agree that right now you have a bunch of people putting up ""servers"" on their own PC, and sometimes by accident (i was in downloading mode and went onto a server with weird map name, and got message: How did you get on my computer?).

So. I''m sure with a little patience we''ll have real servers, real maps, and real fun throwing crap at each other.

It looks like if you want to be decent at hl2dm you need to always have grav gun in primary or quick weapon switch (''q'' key) slot, so you can catch stuff and throw it back. Strafe and spray seems more effective for dodging than killing, but it works if you''re aiming at their head. Big pistol, cross bow, anything made of metal or stone you throw, all seem to be one shot kills. As is shotgun close up.

Right now things are unbalanced cause playing DM with 20-30 people is a little insane. There is a team option, where you are either blue or red, with blue being combine guys with goggles, and red being models from lamba resistance people. That''s a bit more fun and doable, cause you can actually team up. Just watch out for those flaming barrel throws...or do a bunch of those yourself.

Once there are more team mods going, I think we''ll have a blast.

I downloaded a map collection of crappy ports of hldm maps to hl2dm maps...and it''s fun for a bit.

The file is at www.halflife2files.com, only when you install it in your halflife 2 deathmatch/hl2mp/ directory it puts all of the files/folders in a new folder, so you have to then take all of those folders up a directory level. In other words you end up with /hl2mp/(some stupid name)/maps, instead of everything in /maps going into /hl2mp/maps

So once that''s fixed...you know, crossfire, bounce, etc. can be played in hl2dm. Kinda fun.
