Opening Day WoW Stuff

Yeah, having the same problem. It shows Blackhand at medium load, too.

Spy they speak the truth about the 2h sword trainer. It''s like this for other weapons as well, for instance the Staff trainer for Horde is in Thunder Bluff. Which means a zeppelin trip and a long run for any Undead that want to train in staff.

EDIT: it will also cost you 10 silver when you get to there (this goes for training any weapon skill).

There is a weapons trainer in Darnassus. He doesn''t train it, huh? Reason I mention it, is because during the stress test I didn''t see him and just wrote it off that I couldn''t train bows in the NE city. I ended up fidning him though and trained bows this time around. If you already knew about him and checked, nevermind.

I had such high hopes for a smooth launch too...

You might not be able to enter the world right now but at least there isn''t a queue anymore...

Smooth as butter for me - havent had an issue yet, but I end up playing off peak at times... I will look for someone in Darnassus and close out my quests before I make the run if I cant train there. Silver I have plenty of, but I didnt want to have to make the long distance run yet, but it will need to be done eventually I can always Griffin hop back... I''d like to pick up bow as well....

It''s not as easy as taking a griffon ride. After leaving Darnassus for Auberdine you then take a boat to Menethil Harbor. Outside of Menethil is the Wetlands which is a swampland filled with lvl 20-22 crocodiles that will agro you from long distances. If you make it through there on foot (I died 3 times when I tried the run during Beta at level 12) you''ve got to cross through the lands boarding Dun Morogh and will finally reach Iron Forge. Then take the tram to Stormwind.

FYI, I''ll be taking Vorcha over the Auberdine soon. Once I hit level 15 in Darkshore I''m going to attempt the run myself. Actually maybe we could organize a night where all the Night Elves work together to migrate there together.

Well I will be ready when you are to head over there - I made the run during beta and the gators were a pain in the ass literally.... I forget how we managed it the last time... I think we just corpsed run then whole way... We did it rightr after we leveled so we lost zero XP :)....

They probably took the servers down so that people will be happy next time they see the queue.

""That''ll teach them to complain about the queue!""

I think its working ...

We are experiencing high network traffic through our east coast data center. We are working to resolve the issue and will update you further very shortly. We apologize for the delay.

Eh? We understand that players are upset about queues to join a server. That is completely understandable. I suggested that other less populated servers do not have queues, and players would be able to play immediately on those servers, instead of waiting over an hour to join the game.

Also, allow me to add that more servers are coming to the Central and Eastern zones to address the congestion.

I was really looking forward to pulling an all-nighter in Azeroth. If they don''t get the servers up soon I might be forced to spend time with the wife! Oh well, the new Bridget Jones movie doesn''t look that bad...

You sick sick bastard.

LL - it actually wasnt too bad - I was sentenced to it I mean I took my wife to it this past weekend. It had its moments and it made her happy - so it wont be too much of a trial :).

That''s interesting, it confirms that the east and central servers are in the same datacenter. So I bet the only difference between and east server and a central server is what timezone the server clock is set to.

I think so. They use the same loot/database servers as well is my understanding.

After trying to login for 90 minutes, I am giving up, I will try back in an hour or so.

I wonder if it''s this datacenter in Virginia from this archived news notes from way back in September...

Emergency Update: Current Server Status - Block on 09/18/04
At 6:19pm EDT yesterday, the datacenter complex in Virginia that is being used to host the World of Warcraft beta test was hit and damaged by a tornado. Because water was leaking into the building in which our servers were located, we shut down the servers as a precautionary measure and flew out a team of our network engineers to the location to survey the area and provide a preliminary assessment.
This morning, we have confirmed that some hardware has taken on water, so we will need to conduct a careful inspection for damage before we can restore power to the servers. This inspection will take 48 hours or longer to complete, so we encourage you to enjoy the rest of your weekend with other activities, as the World of Warcraft beta test will remain offline for at least that long. We will post another update tomorrow afternoon, and we appreciate your continued patience and support

They used to have pictures and info up on the damage but it looks like they were removed.

Yes it is that datacenter and I bet that is why I havent had the same issues since I live very close to that area... I have been almost lag free, but I have been playing Central so perhaps they are colocated - makes sense just for monetary purposes...

Oh and here is a link to a good site that explains how we made our death march to the other Alliance lands as Night Elves.

http://strategy.worldofwar.net/news....

The NE trainer teachs fist weapons, bows and staves IIRC. I know for a fact you cannot learn axes or swords both 1h and 2h there. My hunter, and warrior were upset about this. I dont think you can learn maces either. I see NE priests starting with staves and Human priests starting with maces.

My paladin could not learn axes in stormwind but she could learn 1h,2h sword and i notice polearm was there too. She is very happy now with her nasty 2h sword!

If I could get on, I would love to help others make the trek from Darnassus to Stormwind. I just cant get on. I played on a west coast for a while. They had a 10 min warning for server shut down...

Well, the Central Servers (at least Blackhand, but I''ve read all Central Servers) are down.

This raises an interesting question even for those who are fanboy Blizzard supporters (this is a normal launch, things will even out, blah blah blah):

We are now officially paying for this giant screwjob of a launch. I can understand why we should give them more time, why it isn''t as bad as other launches, etc. I''m having a harder time understanding why my monthly usage is now running on the meter, when I cannot actually play the game.

I think there is a very legitimate argument (legal and otherwise) to be made at this point for saying the Blizzard should be tolling the start-up of the ""free"" first month (which of course is not free but paid for as part of the purchase price of the game) until these things are fixed up to the point where there are not substantial and material breaches to the basic ability to play the game as sold.

Lineage 2 gave you comp days for downtime.

I wouldnt be surprised if Blizz did the same. Its a good compromise.

A lot of people brought up the same arguments when Star War Galaxies launched and that was an even worse experience. For three days the servers were not up for more than an hour at a time. Did SOE extend the free playing time or offer other reimbursement? Nope. After going through this with 5 MMORPGs, this is pretty par for the course. Give it a week, maybe (hopefully) less and it''ll be straightened out.

This raises an interesting question even for those who are fanboy Blizzard supporters (this is a normal launch, things will even out, blah blah blah):

I consider being called a fanboy an insult since it brings to mind a mindless sort of devotion. I don''t think expecting Blizzard to resolve their issues fits under that category so if you''d like to discuss this how about some equal respect for the community first.

I think what is aggravating this issue is the fact that they launched right before a 4-day weekend for a lot of people. People have free time and expected to be able to play WoW.

I mean, I have HL2, Vamp, Rome, etc to play just on my PC, yet I am pissed about WoW being down.

I guess that answers someone elses question in another thread on whether WoW is that good...

substantial and material breaches to the basic ability to play the game as sold.

Spoken like a true lawyer...

I made 11 on my NE warrior - the guy is like a cuisinart of doom - I have died one time and that was due to sheer idiocy of walking away to get a drink and answer the door... Anyone know where i can train 2H Sword and 2H Axe for the NE Cuisinart of whoop ass?

Obviously, a NE warrior is not your guy for official GWJ nights but... are we to run our GWJ Hoarder up to 10 and then work on another char or is there more of a range that we should aim for? Sorry if this is more appropriate for a different thread.

Bah. I''m throwing about the fanboy jokingly; I get a great kick out of everyone who gives any support to a company being a ""fanboy"" and everyone who has any legitimate issue being a ""whiner"" in the wonderful world of the internet. Hence I tend to use it jokingly in posts such as the above. Should have used a smiley I guess. I thought it was pretty obvious.

Honestly though, I''m also not sure where I equated a basic expectation that Blizzard would resolve their issues (as you said) with being a fanboy (I certainly did not state that the parenthetical following fanboy in my original statement was the sole qualification necessary to be a fanboy), or where I lumped you in as such. I think you have a guilty conscience to presume you were being so categorized.

Of course there really are fanboys, and there really are whiners, but not too many here that I can see. My basic statement stands, however; I''m not sure how even fanboys could make a claim that there should not be some sort of refund or extension of the monthly allotment, particularly if the server availability continues to be so spotty.

P.S. If you were connecting this with the ""fanboi whiner"" post I made earlier re: you, again I thought that it was really obvious that I was making a joke. You were clearly trying to bring peace to the divided nations, which I once again thought was amusingly compared to being a fanboy and whiner all-in-one (which by its nature is obviously impossible, and therefore should clearly be a joke).

I will no longer reference you in my posts, and will give appropriate disclaimers as to the hypothetical third party nature of my subjects, who do not resemble any GWJers, living or dead.

Looks like they''re trying their best to get this under control. Bringing up 16 new servers (that should have been there to begin with) is at least a good start to getting everything under control.

Oh SlyFrog, I do so enjoy the sarcastic half apologies. Thanks

I will play whichever character whenever - I have been having a blast - I havent started my Horde toon yet - I cant decide....
