Has anyone used a TV 2 VGA converter?

My nephew has a PS2 he'd like to play in his room but with his computer there as well there isn't really room for even a small TV in there. It struck me that one of those converters to switch from a tv source to a monitor input might just do the trick, maybe with a KVM switch as well to stop the need for constant unplugging of the monitor to play PS2 vs PC?

Has anyone had any experience with this or know anything about it, like where I could order one? Any comments on how well it works, image quality etc... are most welcome.

I''ve used one! Of course it was with a Sega Genesis on a Commodore monitor, but it worked great!

I have a built in TV tuner so I dont know how much of a difference it is. But just to through in my two cents, it looks nice for the most part. I wish I could get the HDTV tuner though.

a Commodore monitor

A.... Commodore.... monitor?
I had to plug mine into a 13"" TV. When did they start making monitors?

You can usually find these at large electronics stores like Fry''s, and some EBs and Gamestops carry them in store. Otherwise, you can easily order online from EB or Gamestop. I''ve never used a PS2 one, but I had a vga adapter for my Sega Dreamcast and I LOVED it. The improvement in picture quality was nothing short of amazing. I''ve heard the Dreamcast was an unusual case for this (so your PS2 mileage may vary), but it''s definately worth trying.

Man, now I want to hook up my old dreamcast to my nice 19"" monitor . . .

What you talking about duck?

I use THIS. It can run my xbox on the computer monitor with an s-video connection through the PC. It looks just fine. You''ll just have to find a way for the sound to hook up, a stereo maybe. Now the PC can be a TV as well, it even has a remote.

Edit: Also, it turns your PC into excellent video recorder for any TV show you want to schedule. Really a great bargain for $45.00.

That''s a highly advanced Commodore. Mine only had a tape drive.

tape drive

What, an ""official"" one? Like you didn''t take your dad''s old tape recorder/player and plug it in and hit play/record on your own?

Kids these days.

That said, I did also end up buying the 1541 drive, but remember somewhat fondly the duct-tape-as-swiss-army-knife feeling of hooking the keyboard that was actually a computer up to a crappy old tv and a tape recorder(not a tape ""drive"") and loading a program. Or taking a hole-puncher to all my floppies so I could use both sides of them.

Ahh, those were the days.

Looks like time to remince about the fact that on the tape drive, if I wanted to play a game at night I would start loading it before dinner.

I still have one of those monitors. The were made damn solid. I can use it in the shop with my old VCR to watch movies.

Didn''t have the tape drive, but did have TWO floppies hooked up if IIRC.

be careful on what you buy for these tv to vga converters...ur gonna get good results from a card, but be very weary of the break out boxes. If you go the route of the breakout box make sure the box goes from component to vga. If you get an rca to vga box then the quality will be worse than ur tv...its sad really...I personally have an ATI all in wonder 8500dv on a secondary comp that I used to use and it was the greatest. Now I just use a 65inch mitsubishi television. Having a big tv makes everything else so small...
