Fable reviews

Happy reading!

I''m still buying it pretty much no matter what, but my excitement is starting to alchemize into skepticism. Shorter than expected playtime is the single largest reason that I can pin down.

It''s the reported easiness of the game that has me worried, I don''t mind an eight hour game, if I get 20 out of this one that''s plenty.

I also will be picking it up... It''s something to keep me up until Halo2 hits the stores.

Well, I''ll see what you guys say before I plunk down my rare gaming dollars on this one. I really want to like it, and really want to rush out and get it on day one, but those very things make me wary, as they''re a recipe for disappointment. Sadly I don''t put much faith in website reviews these days, so that doesn''t help either way. I trust the opinion of the players here though.

I''m glad it''s short. I can''t stand 80+ hour RPGs, longer I''ve stuck to one single player game was Knights of the Old Republic, and I beat it in 25 hours.

Thank God I''m not the only one, Pink. I mean I have respect for the guy who can sit down and find the titanium thread of thought to progress entirely through Baldur''s Gate 2, but there are shiny things near my desk and the inevitable happens. I want a game that moves, flows, advances, and grows in the span of hours not days. I want a sense of growth, not on some epic real world schedule, but in the limited time I have to play. If I feel like I''m not getting anywhere, that I''m still in the tutorial after a week, then I''ll just put the game down these days. I find I''m beginning to prefer the tighter gameplay, and narrative progression that''s developing from the shorter games of late.

I was looking for a KOTOR-like experience with this one. I was planning to buy it on day one and have intentionally not read anything about it. But I did read the IGN review above and the conclusion of the TeamXbox, and I''m not sure, it seems to have dulled my excitement a little.

I wasn''t looking for 200 hours of gameplay, I played Morrowind for a little bit and it was very boring, but 40 is a sweet spot for me. 20 is low for an RPG and when both reviews start out ""this isn''t really an RPG, it''s an Adventure game"", I''m not sure how I feel about that.

I kind of think that way as well. I''m not looking for 80 hours gameplay or anything but with an RPG I tend to like them to run for a good 30-40 hours. For FPS shooters I like to see them clock in around 20 hours.

But like Certis, I''m more worried about the apparent lack of difficulty than I am about the game length. I''m going to wait for some GWJ member reviews to roll in before I jump on this.

Well, my reservation will be held at work for me, so you guys can count on a review from me, at least by Friday of next week.

Sanjuro, next Friday is the 10th, I thought the street date wasn''t until the 14th. Are you guys getting it that far in advance?

Oops, got confused between Burnout 3 and Fable. They''re so similar, you know?
Okay, 2 weeks from now

I think part of the sudden trepidation is due to two things:
1. It''s been touted as the best RPG of all time by the ever-so-humble Peter ""A.H."" Molyneaux.
2. This close to release, there''s been a sudden and all-too-familiar feature ""reduction"". Granted, at least they''re announcing it before you buy the game this time, but it does bring about a sense of deja-vu.

Man, not me. I like my RPGs MASSIVE. I played Baldurs Gate 2 for 11 months. I only played it once too, I just sucked at combat and did every side quest I could possibly find. I never ""finished"" Morrowind but probably put 60 - 80+ hours into it.

This is somewhat odd as most other games I never even come close to finishing, whether they be 8 hours or 80 in length.

I''ll buy this one but the biggest let down for me is the fact that there is only one ending. All your evilness or goodness will go for nothing storywise. How hard would it be to add some more dialogue and an extra cutscene or two for extra endings? KOTOR''s ending weren''t all that different but it still made the game more rewarding to play through again.

Hmmm, this was looking interesting to me (read buy new at release) but now looks like a bargain bin purchase. Too many other games coming out anyway...

I never got back to give it a real look during PAX.
But when I was walking by the main character was a lot older than the day before. There was a definite difference between all the people playing also(darker on some then on others).

So has anyone seen any good deals on this one? I hate paying $50+ for non-PC games.

Actually I hear from TeamXbox is that there a two endings, however they are not all that different from what I understand.
