JO Tonight? Please please please....

Sorry, but this sounds like the ""joy"" that was ""Facing Worlds"" in UT2K3 writ large. Mayhaps I''ll simply wait this one out. If nothing else, I can play a different game and just listen in on TeamSpeak and hear the joy from afar :).

The game is good, don''t misinterpret what we are saying; its just that most of the servers leave off the things that allow the game to stay fun.

Great guys. Now you''ve gone and scared poor ol'' ColdForged off!

[Sarcasm? Tracers off is traditional for competitive play in DF games, since tracers on forces you to constantly move after firing, even in areas and situations where you''d normally be concealed. So tracers on artificially moves the game more towards the action side of things, and away from tactics. The game is harder with no tracers. :-)

See when I jump on JO with all the guys on teamspeak I don''t think, ""MAN!!! I want to go play a hard game and get shot from stuff I have no idea where it is."" I think, lets go have some fun!!!! Yeeehaawwww!!

As soon as I can''t tell where stuff is coming from the game immediately drifts into the mode where I''m trying to have fun. I know the game is fun, but somehow something is missing. Alright, yeah I just killed something maybe this isn''t so bad. But then I die again by an invisible foe who probably also likes shooting through walls.

Gotta agree with Zedian here. Tracers on may force you to constantly move after firing but tracers off forces it into a find the needle in the haystack simulator.

Holy crap was there ever a lot of people in TS. I kept quiet simply because there was too much noise. I was glad to see us switch to channels later, although everyone needs to set up macros to switch channels AND to broadcast to the other channel.

Good game tonight. Lot''s of ''new'' faces from GWJ. Excellent.
(still would like to get you all in AA

Wish I hadn''t missed all the good stuff tonight. Looks like it was a full house.

Great job everyone on my team, way to stick it to Certis.:) Great fun all around.

Thanks everyone.
This was great fun

Yes, his plan of ""Get Blown up by Alexander''s RPG"" worked perfectly, twice!

Our losses will be avenged!! or something..

I''ve always been able to connect to JO, no problem. However over the last week or so, I''ve been unable to connect to Novaworld. I get to the chose West Coast, East Coast or International. I select West Coast (I''m resident in California) and I get a timeout message (Message #NWEC42) after a bit. I''ve tried turning off my virus-protection and going into the DMZ. Both, to no effect. Any ideas would be appreciated.

One other thing is tonight, I was running with 8xAA and 8xAF and couldn''t even tell until I had been playing for like 15 minutes and thought my framerate was a tad slower than normal. Its the first time I actually realized how ridiculously overpower this video card is for some things hehe.

Email Nova''s tech support, they''re really quite good and quick to get back to you. Might save you some time!

It was a very good game tonight, my team did get wasted though. You know, for the official game night I think we could password protect it and play strictly with only GWJers, near the end things were getting a bit more hectic than I like. The maps we had going were really good for fewer people anyways.

The thing that bothered me was that people would come in and snipe, so of course we have to have counter-snipers, which drags teamwork down. How about turning off the sniper class next time?

Not a bad idea, I wish you could restrict it to like one sniper per team or something. Oh, and for the record, nailing you with that grenade right before the end of the last round made up for my entire night of death and humiliation

Thanks Certis -- I''ll give it a try. Sorry I missed the fun!

Yeah last night was alot of fun. The last 2 maps our team was getting splattered though. The other team was just working much better together alot of our guys were just floundering around like fish out of water.

Try what the AGE server does - restrict to the crappiest sniper rifle available. It''s amazing how few people want to spawncamp when you take away their favorite thunderbolt. Just a suggestion.

Newt, PM me and I will give you some router settings that NL Tech support emailed me - it is for port forwarding. I have them at home.

I still have some troubles getting on the East Coast NovaWorld, but thankfully our server is on the Westcoast.

Oh, if only you could have heard me curse your name on Teamspeak, or see me shake my fist at the screen. I think that grenade actually hit me, not the ground - an impressive feat considering that I was practically inside a bush. How you managed to land a perfect shot like that while dodging and weaving, I don''t know.

This would also work for me. Get rid of the M82, L115A and the good rebel sniper rifle (I personally always use the L115A so I always have the same gun) and the problem would probably disappear.

I tend towards the SR25 - not sure why, it just works for me - on the few occasions I do attempt to play sniper.
I think AGE limits it to the M21, whatever that is. I''d wager that it''s a bolt-action(slow) with a weak scope and low ammo count(both per clip and total). Not sure if it''s team-specific, though.

I was amazed to see only about 3 or 4 snipers on my team on a 60-person server, though, which is what makes me think this might have been the cause.

Yeah, that''s a good idea. The best snipers, like minase, probably won''t care, and the rest won''t even bother if they can''t have something 7.62mm or .50 cal.

I like that sniper idea a lot. What''s the worst rifle on each side?

After a few months or a year of playing these maps, you''ll know them so well that you could take out snipers with no tracers pretty reliably. It won''t seem like a challenge at all with tracer. I''m just pushing that curve up a bit.

A lot of folks heard about JO and they were complaining that in the DF series, you often have to run ""huge"" distances to get to the fight. Once you get used to the map size and the possibilities it gives you, though, it''s no longer an issue. As you get more used to the game and the maps, tracer on is gonna seem like Easy mode.

The lapua on the rebel side-its a bolt action rifle, .33 cal.

On the joint ops side, I''m not sure. The M21? Don''t they have the lapua as well?

M24 for JO. The M21 for rebels is actually a good rifle, certainly not the worst. The SVD is a little worse then the M21 becouse it has less ammo.

Noted, next time the server is up those weapons will be all there is for snipers.

I''d say the SR25 for Ops and the M21 for rebels, unless the M21 is a common weapon, in which case just the M21. They both have crappy scopes and aren''t that incredibly accurate.
