Someone help me pick out my FREE GAME!

Hey everyone,

I just today signed up for DSL service (DSL Ultra (1.5Mb)through Bellsouth). I shopped around and found that if I went to a Best Buy store, I could get the Bellsouth service, and in addition a free (after rebate) PC game up to $50.

So I browsed through the store and realized I didn't know what I'd get. The only thing I play right now is BF:V over a dial-up connection. I've not made a point of keeping up with what's come out lately, but the titles that have caught my eye are:
Far Cry
Call of Duty
the latest Jedi game (Knights of the Republic?)
the latest Thief game
Joint Operations

I'm sure there are a lot of other good ones out there that I'd be open to, but that should give you a idea of my tastes. I'm not interested in anything where I have to pay an additional montly fee (I'm just too cheap). What can you recommend?

Far Cry.

Thief III.

Call Of Duty is the best single player shooter since Half-life, IMHO.

KOTOR. Best. Star. Wars. Game. Ever!

I got a $15 gift card from EA today for my birthday. Now I have to decide what game to buy with it...hmmm

I''d vote for KotOR, also. If it''s the latest ""Jedi game"" it may be Jedi Academy. In that case, I''d vote for Thief III.

Happy birthday Dr.G

it was last week, but thanks anyway!

KOTOR

My picks, based on the list, depend on what your interest is in playing games.

For multiplayer, Joint Operations or Call of Duty.

For single player, Knights of the Old Republic or Call of Duty.

KOTOR, definitely.

KOTOR

Call of Duty for an amazing single player FPS experience. KOTOR for great length (or so I''ve heard, I want to get it but haven''t yet).

KOTOR definitely. Unless you really like stealth games, in which case I''d recommend Thief 3. Unless you really dig Multiplayer games, then I''d say Joint Ops. Unless you really crave a singleplayer FPS experience, then I''d say Call of Duty. But if you really wanna show off how powerful your rig is and love monkeys and mutants, then get Far Cry.

...

I think your decision is much clearer now.

Put a poll for f*cks sake. Thats what it is for. My vote is Joint Ops.

Single Player, KOTOR.

JointOps would be my first instinct if you like MP, but it''s easy to find for $30 in many places.

I loved the CoD demos and am just waiting for it to drop below $30 or my birthday to roll around.

Doom3 is out soon, so if you don''t have a deadline on redeeming your rebated, you could wait for that and really tweak the id fans.

Another vote for Knights of the Old Republic, followed (distantly) by Call of Duty.

I was actually a little underwhelmed by FarCry... I seem to be the only one, however. It was pretty, but it just didn''t suck me in the way Half-life or the aforementioned CoD did.

FarCry was ""meh"". Some moments of the multiplayer were good, but moreso from the interactive nature of the environment and how well the physics worked out. I agree with a comment from one of the Doom threads (elaborated by me) that FarCry really seemed more like a decent game that was a showcase/demo for the engine, as opposed to an outstanding game on its own. I enjoyed it, but maybe not full-price enjoyed if that makes sense.

Knights of the Old Republic, unabashedly and without a doubt.

KOTOR

Doom 3 (in a few weeks)

Put a poll for f*cks sake.

I don''t know why I got such a kick out of this, but I did.

oh and Kotor or Call of duty, really you cant go wrong with either.
I beat both which in and of itself is a minor miracle akin to changing wine to vinegar.

Thief or KotOR.

Single Player: KotOR, baby. There is no other

Man, what a bunch of RPG fanboi you are.

Bee, march out, get Call of Duty (good as both single or multiplayer), or Joint Ops (multiplayer).

I''d lean towards Joint Ops myself, but then I already own it, and I''m waaaayyy biased.

I''ve replayed both KOTOR and Call of Duty. I apparently liked Far Cry better than others (it was pretty and i liked the guns, but crawling through grass can get old I spose) but really KOTOR and Call of Duty are superior games.

If you''re not into RPG style Star Wars (of the highest caliber, and yes long nice story), than I''d go with Call of Duty. As for the multiplayer on it, my own taste is for the ""realism"" style, and not the bouncing, zergling rush that is call of duty death match or team death match.

Joint Ops and play with the rest of us.

CoD AND KOTOR.. aren''t they both around $30 US??

CoD I mostly see for $40 still.
