Anyone Try Joint Operations Demo?

Has anyone tried out the Joint Operations demo? I just downloaded it and hopped into a server for five minutes. It seems interesting, but I was getting a lot of lag on even a server with decent ping.

I was part of a press event a couple weeks back that was supposed to show us the action on a 100 player server. I got on and it was a slide show. Maybe it was a driver related issue because my ping looked solid but I was pulling maybe 5 FPS.

So do you recommend it?

Yes, but only special for you buddy

I''ve just been playing the demo a bit. My first impression is that is is pretty slick. I haven''t had any lag or video problems...in fact it plays really sweet, even on a server with 98 people!! It seems like a good combination of BF-style gameplay with a dash of Planetside (potential for large battles) and a good deal of depth as far as kits/weapons and group tactics goes. I''m gonna go play the demo some more, but me likey so far...

I''ve had a few hours with the full version to help a friend with his review. I''m not all that impressed with the multiplayer. It mostly becomes a sniper battle, but that might change with larger numbers of players. The air vehicles are a little too simplified for my tastes, but the ground vehicles are a little too complicated. There were a number of bugs, and it is very demanding on hardware.

What well and truly rocks is the co-op multiplayer! We had a great time with a few of those missions, and it looked like there were 20 or more of them. I''ll buy it just for that.

Yeah, playing the demo did pretty much become a sniper battle. It is really easy to hide very far off and make it nearly impossible for anyone to find you. One eye-candy thing that I am very impressed with are the graphics when you''re riding in a helicopter -- not only is everything very well rendered, but you can look up and see the blades spinning and casting shadows in the cockpit...very nice.

After the first demo I don''t think I could be convinced to give this one another go. It felt generic, especially the helo controls.

I''m kinda staying away from it until some real reviews come out.

One thing that bothers me is the hype on Amazon: ""Better than Battlefiled 1942, better than BF Vietnam!"" Any time I see that for a game not even available yet, I think-""I''m going to buy those games instead.""

With a few exceptions (Sacred comes to mind), clones are never as good as the original. No stepfrord games for me, thanks, give me the real deal.

I''m played the new demo for a couple hours. There was
60+ folks on and no lag at all. Pretty chaotic, but your
type HUD if you played DF or BHD. Graphics are nice
with very lush terrain that is cool to move thru. I didn''t
see much sniping, but a whirlwind of chopper flights,
dune buggies whizing around and patrol boat duels:)
I saw one fellow in complet camo just sneaking thru
bushes with K blade trying to do folks in. Saw
a guy standing there with an rpg try to bring
down a chopper. That looked sweet. Although
the controls in chopper''s are basic, the way
NPC move around and look at things and
manipulate the controls is interesting. It''s ''only''
going for $29.99 I believe when released. So
may be worth the price of admission.

For me tho'' AAO/SF is my baby. Luv it.

I played the first demo and was not at all impressed. The only thing that might make it worthwhile are the coop missions. Those type of missions have been lacking far too long and if it gets reasonable strong reviews I might go for it. But for now I''ll stick with BFV (and getting killed by Slick again and again and again).

Lacking, that''s my descriptive word for the demo.

Huge, wide open terrains. Multiple kits to pick from. Air, Land, and Sea vehicles to command. All these things are good and well, but it just feels very empty to me. Also, the lag is a killer for me.

It has caught my interest, and if I get word that lag issues have been resolved, I may check it out.

On what hardware does it run acceptably?

I hope the co-op is good. Vietcong was pretty damn fun but I just liked the way the original Delta Force played. I''d grab my M40 and one of my chums would take a 203 and we''d have a good ol'' time.

You nailed it Reaper. The first DF was a blast in multiplayer co-op. Too bad all the ones that followed had net code so bad that it was impossible to play co-op even on a LAN.

I agree with Reaper too. First DF was really cool.
The rest not that bad, but my fondest memories
are definitely from the first. Maps were great.

I still find it fun. I''ve been playing the demos for a few weeks now, and while I preferred the first demo (two islands), the new one is also enjoyable. It looks like they''ve worked hard to improve some of the distance drawing that made it pointless to try to sneak around (if a sniper at 600 yards sees you better than you do when you''re crawling through the weeds, there''s a problem), it still has some work to do.

I''ll read the reviews and probably pick it up if they are even somewhat decent.
