1000th Forum Member Contest

Holding a contest here to see who can come closest to guessing when we reach 1000 forum members. I will send a fresh and bendy $25 EB gift certificate, purchased on my own dime (or 250 of them) to the person who comes closest. However, I also get a guess, and if I get closest then I'll just go buy myself my own damn game, and then mock you all.

All you need do is jot down in this thread the date and time you think we will get our 1000th forum member. Whoever comes closest gets the Certificate. However, you need to go ahead and guess, as no guesses will be allowed after we reach 700 members. Also, this is kind of an on-your-honor kind of thing, and we trust that no one will interfere with the contest by creating a bunch of throwaway identities. Also, no guesses will be counted that have been edited (for obvious reasons) so be sure you post it right.

Anywho, guess away.

I bet it will be within 24 hrs of the 999th member registering.

Oh golly, I can''t wait for my gold!

I would really like to say Sept. 30th of this year, and then as the date approaches, keep swearing up and down that we will still make the 1000 mark on Sept. 30th, even though we''re only at 800 a week before. Then at the least moment I''ll make up some story about hackers getting into the GWJ server and stealing the users database, requiring a complete do over. Then I will postpone the date until sometime in 2005.

A quick analysis of the GWJ Member List reveals the following forum growth data:

IMAGE(http://www.slambie.net/images/GWJgraph.gif)

Which tells me that GWJ has added an average of 49.6 new members per month over the last 5 months.

The number of new members we need to add to reach 1000 is 334.

334 divided by 49.6 new members a month = 6.7 months. However, since May is reflecting a downward trend in new member sign-up, I''m going to guess that forum growth decreases over the summer months. Ignoring the spike in April, the new member difference between May and March is 8. Therefore, taking into consideration that membership will decrease by 24 (8x3) during 3 of those 6.7 months it will take to reach 1000 members, we''re looking at an overall downward trend of 16% for 3 of the 6.7 months. So that tells me....

....Oh god, I have no life.

f*ck it, I''m going to say we''ll reach 1000 members on November 8, 2004.

I don''t know why Slambie, but your post totally turned me on. Don''t tell my wife!

We''ll have to sticky this thread and lock it once we hit 700 members.

Christmas! Dec. 25, 2004. Yes, I know, anyone signing up to a gaming website on the Holy Day of Overeating and Rampant Consumerism is a big, giant, loser...
So you see why I chose the day.

Oh, and also: *slaps Certis upside the head* Git in th'' house!

I''m going with slambie''s scientific approach, but true to the nature of statistics I''m taking the data, analysing it, and coming up with a completely different answer.

26 January 2005.

November 16, 2004. I figure the awesomeness of the inevitable Halo 2 review will cause thousands of people to register exactly one week after the game of released. Of course, if the game is delayed or released early, then I''m ruined!
