I''ll take American-flag-clad Japanese Iron Chef Morimoto!
Rachel Ray ugh, I can''t stand her accent, it''s so nasal and whining. Does it irritate other Southerners too?
The Japanese Iron Chef show is excellent, I love watching the re-runs. However, this bastardized American version with Flay, Puck, and Vitale is lame. The first weekend it was on all 3 Japanese Iron Chefs lost to these guys, which is a statistical virtual impossibility.
Alton Brown I do like. He''s kinda goofy at times but he had a very good show on how to make beer, which gave him points in my book.
However, for looks and personality, you could do much worse than Rachael Ray.
Good god, Rachel Ray is hideous. I think every time I''ve accidentally seen one of her shows I''ve passed out in horror. Even now I have to struggle to surpress the memory of her grating voice lest I succumb before I can finish typing this message.
You know that popularity boon among college students. Partly my fault ^_^
I like Sakai more than the other two, but Morimoto rules too... I just don''t like the last guy... he pisses me off for some reason.
You know what the greatest thing ever was though? If any of you played Suikoden II, there was the Iron Chef mini-game when you went to your restaurant! It was the greatest thing ever! Especially with the overly dramatic host.
Yes, it does. I don''t have cable anymore, but that''s the only show I miss.
The US one is useless, but I did see the Flay/Morimoto v. Vitale/Sakai matchup (did I get that right?), which was entertaining, but only if you''d religiously watched the import.
My view, don''t f*** with it. Good stuff transcends languages, regions, cultures. Import the Iron Chef, subtitle it, let it ride.
Some thing with lame remakes of brit-coms.
At least they''ve had the good sense to leave The Office alone.
Ming Tsai, of Blue Ginger, Wellsley, MA has a show here called Simply Ming. Is that on the Food Network?
If so, he''s my second choice. Guy''s a genius.
No, but he does have a show on Simply Living called ""Ming''s Quest"" where he travels around making local specialties.
I hate the Dirty Americanized Iron Chef.. sorry. Alton and Molto Mario was the only thing that even remotely kept my attention. I knew the show was a set up when the masters defeated by the newbie american asswipes it was over. Especially when they had the Soprano Big P*S*Y judging in a fish battle. Dude doesn''t eat anything raw. Hello...thank you for wasting your weekend watching this crock of poo.
I love all my Iron Chefs. Even mean ol'' Rokusaburo Michiba.
Rachel Ray - $40 a day - more like 4,000 calories a day. Ever since she started that new show she has really been packin on the pounds too. She wears all black now and if you notice her hips - they are really about to burst from the seams. Blech. She''s nast.
I don''t understand Iron Chef. Why get so excited about incredibly (inedibly) disturbing food that you build a show around it? The only reason I have have ever watched it was to check out the panel of judges for potential hotties. Then you hear the horrible overdubs that sound like they were done by a group of people who either hate their jobs, or still holding a grudge about Pearl Harbor, and are thus determined to make them sound as stupid as possible.
PS. If the fish is raw, that means the chef didn''t do anything.
I''m kinda ol'' skool. I liker Jacques Pepin and Julia Childs the best. Ming Tsai is good too -- his personality is a little annoying, but he makes great stuff and without too much pretense.

I liked Jaques and Julia growing up, until Julia went senile and and just started covering everything in these nasty oatmeal looking sauces.
""This is wonderful"" she would croon, but noone had the heart to tell the old girl that it looked like something you''d see on the pavement outside a nightclub on saturday night.
Ming is annoying-all macho blustering-but, to my mind, simple food is both more elegant, and harder to get right.
One show, Ming took some steak, coated it in three colored peppercorns, seared it, and served it over a bed of leeks tossed in sauce made of three vinegar paste and some olive oil.
That''s a complex set of flavors in a very simple dish.
I totally go with Alton Brown as the best! It''s the perfect mix of cooking and backyard physics/chemistry. I also think that Molto Mario seems like kind poser, but in my opinion, Emril Lagasse is the worst. I know he''s super successful, but watching his show makes me think he couldn''t boil an egg without the recipe in front of him.
Is this woman on Food TV? I see her about to ingest that lucky what-ever-it-is on the cover of that book every time I''m in the cookbooks section at Borders or B&N. I can think of worse fates for an hors doeuvre.
Actually, on closer inspection of that picture, it would appear to answer my question for me.
If any of the Food TV people here haven''t read Anthony Bourdain''s ""Kitchen Confidential"" semi-biography yet, please do so. Now. Don''t make me hurt you. Kitchen politics! Drugs! Mobsters! Expression of vehement hatred for Emeril! Perfect summer reading!
His TV series, ""Cook''s Tour"" is also a lot of fun. Not so much about the food itself as about his insane travels all over the place to find interesting food, though. He would have made about 10,000 times as interesting an Iron Chef as any of the guys they picked.
And strangely, I don''t find Rachel Ray all that annoying. Her TV show where she wanders around various cities finding the best deals on great food is fairly entertaining.

Mmmm, Nigella. I forgot about her. She''s purty. And no, she isn''t on FoodTV. I like.

Ah, I forgot Anthony! He does have a fun show, because he eats, drinks and smokes his way around the real world, meeting drinking buddies everywhere he stops. Kind of like Rick Steves'' evil twin.
I heard all this great stuff about Rachel Ray and I finally watched one of her shows a few weeks ago. I could not get through fifteen minutes of it, she was SO DAMN ANNOYING. Her accent, her personality, all of it was just like ACKKKKK.
I like Iron Chef as much as the next guy. The Japanese, not the American. My favorites are Good Eats and Jamie Oliver''s shows.
I saw Alton Brown speak at a book signing a year or two ago. He put on an impressively funny and entertaining talk. His is one of the few shows I pay attention to on TV.
I wonder if maybe Rachel Ray is an acquired taste. I like her, but I can see how the voice would turn some people off. And yes, she did put on a lot of weight and start wearing a lot of black a few months ago, but it''s begun to come off. She''s got a chipper and earnest sweetness that I find appealing.
I wish they''d get rid of Emeril. He''s annoying and uninteresting.
Now that they''ve got Good Eats running daily at 7:00 and Unwrapped at 7:30, that hour has become must see tv.
I wish they''d get rid of Emeril. He''s annoying and uninteresting.
I''ve seen Emeril do his half hour non-live show and it isn''t bad. The problem is that cooking shouldn''t be on a live hour long show with an audience.
eh.. lol. Mike hates her.
My favorite - Yellow, Silver or Red - heck even white/red/green. Yes, it''s all of the Iron Chefs. Japan rocks in that arena. Thank you. Goodnight!
Where'd the cheese go!?

Rachel Ray is annoying. I''m a big fan of Alton Brown. I also really like Molto Mario and Yan Can Cook!

Edit: Almost forgot Alton Brown is pretty cool.
This is one channel I never watch. What is fun about watching someone else cook?
Alton Brown definitely. I highly recommend his book:

If there were any justice in the world, 'emoticons' would be a failed eighties Transformers spin off movie, in which all the bots transform into a symbol of an emotion, and which preaches gay rights.

Wow, a lot of Rachael hat0rs. Right on, to each their own. They have that food porn chick on there now too.
Do you ever walk alone like a drifter in the dark?
Alton Brown rocks. As for Iron Chefs, I gotta go with Sakai.
I started my own blog so when I feel the need to make an ass out of myself, I won't have as far to go.
Mmmm, Nigella. I forgot about her. She''s purty. And no, she isn''t on FoodTV. I like.
