For Worst Voice Acting in an Interactive Game...

While it''s debatable whether the voice actors are responsible, Final Fantasy X''s voiceovers made me cringe constantly until I moved to muting the television.. After seeing the trailer to FF XII (they kept voiceover), I''m simply not going to purchase it for this reason.

The far cry demo, the guys near the shark:
""Try this!"" / ""A grenade?""
the ""Try this!"" part honestly made me think they were doing a homage to a similar comment on the radio in vice city.

And who remembers the cat from the original divine divinity? Cringe-tastic.

JC''s voice in deus ex was perfect for most lines, unless he was trying to say ''Maybe I''ll cap his ass, too''. The style was best for flat-line delivery when he was discussing politics/etc with NPCs, it made it actually sound convincing.

I had completely forgotten about the Monkey Island games. In fact, almost all of Lucasarts'' old adventure titles had great voice acting. It''s one of the reasons I think people still love those games, they had great production quality.

Sam n Max, Grim Fandango and The Dig (With Robert ""I can''t use these two things together"" Patrick!) comes to mind. Especially Grim Fandango someone needs to give Manny Calavera some kind of award.

I thought people were exaggerating about the horrifically bad voice acting in the Beyond Divinity demo.

I was wrong. Wow. The fact that you *couldn''t turn off the voices* was the cherry topper on that one. Glad they went back to re-record for the full game!

I always have Minsc lead my party just so I can hear, ""Butt kicking, for Goodness!"" and other such quotes.

The real fun was playing BG1 online, trading custom sound files among my friends, so that we each had our own defined set. Also, when bored at one point, I found sound file sets off fileplanet for Homer, The Tick...pretty funny.

Usually I only notice the voice acting if it''s baaaaad. Sometimes the actors in Xenosaga started the wear thing, but since that game is half cut scenes...I guess it might do that anyway.

I just thought I would through in some different games.

SSX Tricky: I thought the voice acting was pretty good and added alot to the game. Your characters really seemed to interact with the other characters in the game, getting mad at each other, or themselves when you made them crash. And sometimes they had funny things to say at really unexpected times. Alot of famous actors did voices for the game as well.

I also seem to remember that The Getaway for PS2 had convincing voice acting...too bad most of it had lots of bad language.

As far as bad voice acting in games, I seem to remember that the first Midnight Club Racing had some pretty cheesy voice acting in it. Other than that I am drawing a blank...

Wow. I can''t believe every person on this thread has negelected to mention Blizzard games. StarCraft, Diablo II, and Warcraft III are collectively the finest piece of voice work in all of gaming. All of the accents are sweet in Diablo II, and Warcraft III''s voices are so convincing, I''ve never even thought of them as voice acting.

You know, Blizzard really gets slighted on both these and the evilavatar.com forums. I can''t help but think I''ve run into a peculiar sect of people that doesn''t really seem to appreciate Blizzard games - I hear a lot more about Bioware, Obsidian, Ion Storm, et al. around here.

I don''t think you''ve been reading enough then.

On and off for about the last two years or more at Evil Avatar, and here since this site was created. I hardly see Blizzard or their games discussed.

Tell you what, hit the forum search and type ""blizzard"" and tell me how many pages worth of posts you come up with. Take special note of the ""I''m a WoW fanboy"" thread

I''ll accept guilt on this one. I think Blizzard is hugely overrated. That isn''t to say they aren''t good, but I am of the probably tiny minority that thinks WoW will be just as lousy as most any other MMOG for just the same reasons.
