Still it is amazing that they can find enough suckers <cough> I mean investors.

From what I''ve seen, the basic premise for the money people is this: If they bet on some newfangled idea and it turns out to be wildly successful, they''ll take all the credit and be crowned in glory. If their bet fails, they''ll blame it on factors they couldn''t have known about (since basic research is apparently beyond their rather minimal abilities) and suffer few or no ill consequences.

I have a new idea -- it is a persistent-world fantasy RPG, where you play one of several mystical races, and you lead your brave party of adventurers around on ""quests"", make hats, and earn ""experience"" to become rich and famous.

Think somebody will finance it?

I wish I could come up with an idea to bilk millions of dollars of VC out of otherwise reputable firms.

Hire Business Degree Buddy to write Solid Business Plan: $2,000
Awesome looking webpage: $1,500
Get two budies to plaster the web with utter lies over a period of months: $200
Get a hardware store to throw together a nonfunctioning block of metal as a ""prototype"": $750

...

""sh*t, It didn''t work out. Microsoft and Sony conspired against us. I''ll just dry my tears on this $43, 999,200 check.""
