Call of Duty - anyone playing it?

I picked up Call of Duty when it came out and played it excessively for awhile. then the online cheating got pretty bad and I backed off.
Patch 1.4 just came out that added Punkbuster support and I'm thinking about reinstalling the game.

I was just curious if anyone here plays the game, I've never seen any posts about it so I thought I'd ask around.

Hmmmm, I really enjoyed it. I remember that, but I haven''t played it since November. You may have just inspired me to reinstall and take another crack at the MP.

I think I may have gotten REALLY into Desert Combat somewhere around that time.

I play it from time to time. I am on the Activision beta team so I have been testing this patch for some time.

I''m thinking of re-installing it, to see what I missed. My recollection was of another WW2 shooter on rails, but maybe the game gets better as you go.

I thought the multiplayer was pretty standard and uninspired. Probably halfway between UT2004 and BF1942 in terms of whether success at the game requires good reflexes or good strategy. There were a couple of game modes that were original but not compelling.

Maybe if we inspire some more people we can have some fun games in the near future. I heard they added a new map in the patch and I heard an expansion is due out later this year adding a Capture the Flag mode.

I would buy the expansion for a single-player campaign but never for multiplayer.

The single player was fun. I think a lot of people would have been anxious to play the campaigns in a multiplayer coop mode. Be a nice change from the AI teammates that seem to walk in front of your gun every time you squeeze the trigger.
I also liked the multiplayer as well. Since release they''ve added a ""headquarters"" mode which I have yet to try. Looking forward to it.

CoD was my exclusive multiplayer time sink since it came out.
I was heavily into MoH, and CoD just about gave me everything I ever missed in MoH. Singleplay is great, it should be played at least once, and MP rocks. True, mechanics are such that it requires ballance between tactics and twich, and it really works great. But, no matter how uninspired it may seem at first, whatever is in the middle between Ut2k4 i BFV can not suck, don''t you think? Give it a chance.

I''m up for it. Been slogging through the single player recently, but I''ve never tried multiplayer

I can set up a dedicated server (probably only for like 8 people though, I only have a cable connection and I''d be afraid any more than 8 would cause some major lag) if anyone is interested in setting up a time. Maybe see if we can add it to the calendar and give everyone a few days notice.

CoD is an awesome game. there is nothing better then logging on for several games and capping all the noobs. Good fun if you like FPS, and have good reflexes. If you have neither then I can see why you would think the game is not so great.

If this is not sarcasm I have to completely disagree. What fun is there in killing someone who doesn''t really know what they are doing?

I''d be interested in playing some MP. Maybe we could convince ""The keepers"" to give it a night on one of the GG servers?

Says the guy who used me for target practice on many a UT night.

Good idea swampyankee. Is it at all possible to throw it up on a server and have a night of gaming to see if its something anyone else would be interested in? I''m not sure if theres protocol to follow to get games put up on the servers. If anyone has a Linux server around, theres a free download of the Linux Dedicated Server at most of the COD sites.

One must appeal to Certis in an appropriately whiney, nasal tone. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease. Something like that. A little groveling can''t hurt. Perhaps a suggestion of certain ""favors"" you''d be willing to provide.

Honestly, I dunno.

I played the SP portion of CoD all the way through twice, loved it. Haven''t touched it since. <shrug>

This was a big time sink for me too when it first came out.
Mostly MP play, although I did get up to the Stalingrad
map in SP. Great graphics and SP play, if a bit of a rail
and frantic. With the 1.4 a Stalingrad MP map now. And
nice to see Punkbuster enabled.

What I would suggest''s if a server is put up is have short, but
non-regeneration games on a map that isn''t CQB''ish. Say
Hurtgen, Bocage, Brecourt or even Dawnville. A bit more
strategy and team orientated. And with non-regen, less
bonzai attacks. Well at least imho.

However I sample it now and it''s too frenetic for my taste
now. AAO/SF is my main FPS now. I love the team aspect,
PB and maps.

Ahhh, yes, it was AAO/SF that drug me away from CoD.

*Considers reinstalling AAO*

Edit: Oops, too much city of heroes

Yep, COD is a great mp experience.

Just like everything else though, you have to step back and pepper other gamers in to the regimen also..

I would def give MP I try!
