I'm trying out JumpGate you zealots!!

You can pay by check and all that other stuff I think.

Either that or 9.95, but hopefully the 4 cents won''t make a difference You get 10 days for free, so if you don''t like it just cancel on the 9th day. No reason not to at least give it a try, especially if you enjoyed games like Elite!

I''d suggest that you won''t truly know whether you like JG in 10 days. I think it probably takes two months of regular playing (a few times a week) to get a real feel. But what the heck -- that''s still under $20 ... it''s what you pay for bargain-bin games.

JG is all about using your intelligence and skill within the context of the game. No ""acquiring"" skills by doing tasks. If you want to acquire a skill (such as PvPing), you acquire it by practicing, practicing, practicing, and seeking out the nest pilots and ABSORBING every bit of information you can.

A most excellent game. We just need about 4x-5x as many people playing.

I don''t use credit cards, but that doesn''t mean that I wouldn''t want to play the game.

Perhaps if the MMOG did such innovative things as, say, provide the option of EFT or Paypal or some other automatic debit process, they wouldn''t be capping their growth.

I don''t use credit cards either. Fortunately, I have a visa check card

From the account creation page:

Credit Card
Use a credit card for easy and fast automatic recurring monthly payments.
New customers using a credit card are entitled to a free trial period of 10 days.

Use a Credit Card

- OR -

Alternative Method
NetDevil also accepts direct debit, check, money order, PayPal, Citibank''s C2it, wire transfer, Western Union, and other alternative payment methods via PayByCash.com.*

Unfortunately the fine print says there''s no free trial with the other options

I was waxing philosophically....I didn''t check the website to see. thanks Z!

I think I''ll wait for now. My plate is quite full with Warcraft III, Raven Shield,Diablo 2, and UT2004.

If you played Earth and Beyond, like I did, you can send in your EnB disc and get a 30-day trial instead of just a 10-day trial. I haven''t done that, but if I tire of FFXI on my PS2 I probably will take them up on that offer.

You can get E&B and 3 other games for about $15 at BB.

A couple of comments: check card=credit card if it has a VISA or MasterCard emblem. You would definitely get your 10-day trial.

There is some danger in using check cards as they typically do not offer the same kinds of fraud protection offered by true credit cards. If someone cleans out your bank account, you could be in deep stuff.

Credit cards are easy enough to get if you have a job -- you don''t need much credit limit. Just make sure NOT to keep it in your wallet. Lock it away to help dampen any unseemly urges to use it.

That''s not really the point, is it?

Before we get all P&C here, some people think that something like a month sbscription to an online game is not the sort of essential purchase that warrants the use of a credit card.

Credit Card=something that I want to finance, not something I want but cannot afford.

And the reason why I don''t want to use my check card (and we all have them these days), is precisely the sort of issues you discuss.

The reason why I prefer EFT/ACH is that they are communications governed by regulators, and are essentially bank to bank transactions.

Its a philosophical issue.

Guys, I honestly don''t see the problem, but JG does take other methods of payment such as e-check and western union. I use my debit card to pay for JG, and I''ve never had a problem within the 4 years I''ve played.

I wish I would have not ever bothered asking now.

I just think it is stupid that a company even asks for a CC number for a trial. Just let someone try the game and if they like it, they will keep playing. A game company with such low numbers of subscribers compared to other mmorpgs shouldn''t be asking for that stuff in my opinion. If you build it right, they will come.

Nah, I don''t have a beef V, it just seemd like the posts denigrated into a ""if you have a job, you can get a card"" type of thing, and that''s not my point.

When I have time, I''ll sign up via e-check, no issues.

Flux, I believe it''s a legal/economic issue as to why they require a CC. We''ve asked about this several times, and every time they refuse to remove it. You can read our latest discussion about it here.

I just look at it as one of, if not the cheapest MMORPG to play (monthly subscription). It also does not require you to purchase any software, ever...making it even cheaper comparatively. On top of that you can try it for free for 10 days (with the negative of having to enter your CC#, but with the option to cancel before you are charged), and you can download the client and try out the simulator in off-line mode just to see how the engine works (without having to give them any information at all).

Just some things to think about, for those who are tempted to try it, but are turned off by having to enter your CC#. Normally I would be the same way about entering my Credit Card number into a registration for a game I''ve never played, but since I beta tested this game and knew that I enjoyed it, I was able to overlook that negative

you can download the client and try out the simulator in off-line mode just to see how the engine works (without having to give them any information at all).

Didn''t know that, that is nice! I will try it.

The bad part about this is the graphics suck, and you don''t have all the people trying to help you and give you money.

The simulator has different graphics than the real game?

"Flux" wrote:

No, the graphics are the same, but you can get a feel for the flight engine without the need the log on to the game itself. It''s lonely, sure, but it''s great for practicing. You can select all of the ships in the game, which might help you select which faction to choose once you create an account. Hope this helps.

I played this for a stretch a year or 2 ago and enjoyed it. It''s worth the $10 a month and certainly worth the free trial if you can deal with the CC thing. I appreciated the realistic physics, although the docking computer once locked me into an orbit around the entry point. Also, the medals and achievements were nice.

Oh, and if you do go into the offline sim, hit F3 and then type /ai and have a little fun with the pink thingie. I heard that they were actually updating so that you can play with bigger pink thingies.... if they did, the new command is /ai # #. Try /ai 1 2

I played with the /ai command in the offline sim, but I couldn''t get the second number to work. The first number determines the level of the flux though, and you can select from 1-5. lvl 6 and higher flux only appear in realspace.

Yeah Flux the badguys are called Conflux in the game or Flux for short.

Cool You can at least look at what kind of ships and equipment you can use. Me and Veloxi are Quant (green), if you decide you want to play and you want a wingman.

the reason why they make credit card required when creating a trial account is to prevent 2nd accounts from power-leveling to a fighter or a light fighter level and then use it as a greifing account.

And now, for another episode of Out of Context Theater:

Yeah so be careful or someone may get the idea you''re not new and shoot you down, just a friendly little tip from your new forum hog!

Oh what Veloxi? You want me to post a thread entirely about Jumpgate?

Bravo Jadawin, bravo.

I thought that was what he meant in context.

I downloaded the game and will possibly be trying it tonight. Hopefully it won''t bore me to tears like it did the first time I played it.

Make sure to actually talk to the people playing and ask questions. Reece was a big help to me.

I thought this thread was locked....? Soulless Mateo is very confused.
