I got the dead pixel blues!

Hey all,

I just purchased a Samsung 172x and it is a beautiful monitor! The colors are vibrant and it is one wicked LCD monitor for gaming!

The only problem is is that I've got a pixel smack damn in the middle of the screen stuck on. Against a black background, it is bright green. Any helpful suggestions in taking care of that little bugger?

Try poking it. If that doesn''t work, replace the monitor!

Is it only a single pixel? A lot of manufacturers allow up to 3 ''missed pixels'' before you are eligible for an exchange/refund. Is there a store policy that you could take advantage of?

Nice monitor, bad news on the pixel man. Sorry to hear that.

Newegg''s policy is eight! And I called Samsung and they don''t give a damn.
""A dead pixel? Our warrenty doesn''t cover that!""

I have been really lucky. I have 2 desktop LCD''s and a laptop. I have 1 dead pixel between the 3 (on the laptop in an unobtrusive place too).

Every maker has different rules about pixels, so you need to contact Samsung to find out what they will do for you.

This is why I buy big stuff like monitors at places like Best Buy so I can return them if need be.

God I loved explaining dead and stuck pixel policy to angry customers back in my dark tech support days. Try rubbing it a bit, if that doesn''t work I hope you bought it at a place with a no-questions-asked return/exchange policy.

edit: I post too slow

Newegg''s policy is eight!

Mental note: Don''t buy LCD monitors at NewEgg.

That is a suckfest. Where do they get off establishing a minimum number of bad pixels? That''s just poor customer service.

Thats BS , you just bought it, and it is on the middle of the screen.

break it and then return it. keep pluging it in and unplugging it, stuff like that. Have fun, be creative.

Sadly newegg''s dead pixel policy is pretty bad...

A tad pricery but a great RMA policy.

Well... lesson learned, I guess.

I hope you are right. I am currently trying to get my Hitachi replaced because the backlight is going out. So far all I have gotten is runaround. They have too many ""customer service"" phone numbers listed on the site, and most of them result in a voice menu that tells you to dial a different number, which they rattle off quickly rather than giving you a numeric option to route you there.

Someone else familiar with the site showed me the right number. I called it and was asked for the serial number which I didn''t have ( I was calling from work). I had the information from when I ordered it, but he didn''t seem to want that. I had initially tried to get help from the online technical support requst form they have, but after 2 weeks with no response I cleverly concluded that I would have to call them.

It is getting really frustrating.

The company line, when I was delivering it, was that selling 100% perfect LCDs would basically double the consumer cost. I don''t know if this is true or just a company line, though when you consider the number of transistors involved in a typical LCD, it seems plausible.

Have faith, Brother Gorack! I wrote in a tech support e-mail to LeadTek and gave up on it after a week or so. Three weeks later, though, I received a detailed solution to my problem, with accompanying diagrams, out of the blue.
