City of Heroes Beta Account/key Needed

Oh I thought you said you found one at Gamestop?

Online order only

I may resort to that if JMJ has no luck finding one at his store. I am getting desperate enough to get my order online.

How do you like it Ral? Enough to buy it at retail?

Enough that my posting on GWJ has gone way down for the last couple of weeks.

Yeah, this is a definite buy for me. I loved Freedom Force, and this game is as close to persistent FF as you are going to get. It still has a bit of the MMORPG grind while soloing, but grouping is a blast, and I expect this to tide me over for several months at least.

Nice to see you still immediately think of naked men whenever possible, Rat. At least my sister is probably safe around you.

Anyone tried the Controller?

Paladin said it was harder to solo. I just think the controller/gravity sounds really neat. Crushing force fields, picking up massive hunks of ground and hurling it at enemies. Heaving an enemy up in the air and dropping him... KERSPLAT!

edit: oh and sucking them through a wormhole no less...

So I bought the pre-order box last night and it took until this morning to get my e-mail verified.
So, I''m still waiting for the e-mail to get into the beta. Anyone else have trouble like this?

Swarvey, do you have an NCSoft Master Account (or whatever the hell it is they call it)? To sign up for the LineageII beta, apparently a lot of people didn''t get the beta acceptance email until after they''d registered their master account.

I started a Fire/Fire blaster, but I think I''m also going to put together a Fire/Mace tanker. Damn this game is cool...

Controllers are harder to solo at low levels because they''re fragile and do very little damage. They are, however, the absolute kings at group combat. A group that turns down a controller is just being stupid.

Controllers at higher levels can solo easily, just very very slowly. My level 34 Controller Soulchill NEVER gets KO''d solo, he just has too much control over mob behavior. However, he has very feeble methods of damaging them so it takes forever to kill anything. Ice Control is possibly the lowest damage controller set though.

The highest damage controllers are Fire and Illusion, due to their pets at high levels. Gravity is a solid set at lower levels, with good control and more damage options than most controllers, but currently considered gimp at high levels because its final powers are pretty weak. Wormhole is just a variation on the Power Pool power Teleport Foe.

Yeah, you don''t want somebodyelsehaving to correct you all the time...

Well when the cats away, fang starts up Jade Redfang on Prime server. I was able to get up to the tutorial stage where you get your first instanced dungeon. Very cool! God I could spend way too much time in the character outfit customization.

Is there a character portrait screen? it would be cool for everyone to take shots of there heroes! Hah its funny that my barbed spines doesnt quite fit with my robotic and circuitry theme.

They need a color favorites bar displaying the colors youve already used on your character. You want to have that same red tint on your boots and gloves. They should also have a save settings template so that you can copy the look to another character and just tweek it some rather than starting from scratch. I wasnt too impressed with the look of the hoods available. The bandit face masks rock though!

I knew it! You''re a woman!

Well, while that would let you fulfill some fantasies I''m sure you''ve been having, I''m sorry to tell you I am not a woman. Correcting men may indeed mean you are a woman, but correcting children - my relationship to you - just makes me an adult.

So now you''re saying you''re a surly grandmother?

So now you''re saying you''re a surly grandmother?

I believe surly grandmothers are still women, so no. But your mind certainly works in interesting ways, spending your days daydreaming of male strippers and surly grandmothers.

See what living in the Bay area does to your sexual proclivities folks?

Well, if you have enough of those sent to your house as pranks, it starts to color your opinions. And I''ll remember that ""surly grandmothers are still women"" in case you ever make comments on the facial appearance of Janet Reno or Madeline Albright.

I am pissed! It took 11 minutes, not 10 to get my beta invite email.

Let''s hope you have better luck downloading than fang did and you can get it under eight hours.

I''m still holding out for a free 30 day preview set up.

So, far in the past 40 minutes I have downloaded 360 megs of 725,. It is slowly dropping though. It was 170kb/sec and now it is 99kb/sec. I hope it stays over 50kb/sec before it finishes.

Excellent, that''ll give you the rest of the night to design your hero''s costume.

Come on Rat, give in to peer-pressure. As Certs says, all the cool kids are doing it. You want to be cool, don''t you?! 8)

Oh no. No free peak, no buy.

"Rat Boy" wrote:

How about a free pique?

Woohoo got a beta invite without having preordered!

Now if I can only get the download to complete before the beta is over...

Rat, does beta for the next couple of weeks count as a free peek? It''s worth looking at... (I''m aiming for late-in-the-game fanboi status. )

A wave of open beta emails will go out today according to the forums for CoH.

I finally played this morning after trying to connect about 20 or 30 times last night. No matter what I do I can''t login my first and second characters I made on the Prime and Justice server. However, I finally got in after a new character creation on the Pinnacle server. I know the login server was down for a bit last night so that might of had something to do with it but what is strange is that I could get past the login, it was the tutorial area that wouldn''t finish loading. I have encountered several bugs and really poor netcode/lag performance so far. So , my initial impressions are not favorable. I will play for another week or two before I decide if I really like it I, but for now it isn''t looking good. (I don''t think this game likes wireless broadband).

They are doing some testing right now and will only have one server up, or so it says on the CoH mainboard.

I think it is most of the day today (15th) or all tonight, so I won''t even bother messing with the game much today. It will be too frustrating I am sure.

I''m telling you guys - Prime is the worst possible server to play on, as it has every single beta tester from the entire beta period until about 10 days ago when additional servers became available. The old beta testers, who outnumber the new ones, are all still playing on Prime, since that''s where their high level characters are.

Since Pinnacle came up, I have had virtually zero problems with lag or disconnects on Pinnacle, but lag and lost connections from Prime remained common.

Flux, today''s testing is a special event, and this week they are also bringing up several new servers. Things should smooth out over the next few days. I would suggest playing on Pinnacle, since it has a lower population and has been up and stable for a while.

I agree with you Ral, but don''t you find it odd that I couldn''t even log into Justice or Prime this morning when the population was at it''s lowest rating based on the dot indicator(the same as Pinnacle)?

I was hoping to have my main on Prime so I could group with you guys.

I can make a new character on any server you guys want to play on, just let me know which one!
