Ghost Recon 2 in the works

From Ghost Recon.net

The first GR was definitely on the "I wish they'd make a sequel out of this" list.

Yeah I know a lot of people that are going to be happy about this.

I hope it has a nice upgraded engine, maybe use Battlefield Vietnam''s engine.

I hope they make your teammates smarter.

You''re kidding right?

Well, it''s Ubi, they might as well license the Cry Engine since they obviously must have some decent connections to Crytek.

You''re kidding right?

Nope.

My guess is that they will continue to take advantage of their posession of the Unreal engine. It was used on Raven Shield, and does these sorts of outdoor areas well.

As long as they keep up the killer AI. I''m not a huge fan of the game, but I was very impressed with the bad guys in Island Thunder.

This is most excellent news. I hope when it comes out we can have some good GMJ games going.

Bad guys in the original aren''t a slouch either. Example-

I''m playing through the fourth mission(?) (Iron Mountain?) on Veteran, and I didn''t know I had that extensive of a swear vocabulary!

Take your squad, bang right, 5 Russian soldiers on the left.

Then bang right again, there is the bank. MG pits on the second floor, both windows. Snipe them, but if you aren''t careful, the guy in the front door will get you.

Rush you second team around the back, and they will get cut off by another patrol, which moved up from the right.

So far, the best way I''ve found is to create one team with two rifle men and a machine gunner, and a second team with a sniper, a rifleman, and a machine gunner. March team one all the way behind the bank, then past the bank, to cover the sloping street on the left, where the second patrol will pop up.

Team two snipes the first gunner, then goes down the stairs to X the second gunner. Set the MG and rifleman to surpress, and that takes care of the soldiers in the front of the bank.

Then, move down the street a little, and wait for the patrol to move up. They do catch on to the fact that you have ambushed them left and right, but can''t do much other than get off a few rounds, since you have two MGs bearing on them.

But you haven''t secured the bank yet, and there is one soldier in there behind the center window, that kills everything that moves. You can send team one in the back, team two in the front, but chances are, you are losing a man, in my case, usually the sniper.

Tricky, tricky, tricky.

Well, the best advice I can give on this game is the judicious use of M203''s. A well-placed 40mm grenade will easily wipe out most enemy patrols and is very hand for bunker fragging. If you have a unique character, I recommend working on the ones with the OICW/XM29 to build up their weapon stats. They can be a pretty lethal AI ally.

I personally tend to run with a demo as my character. I like the M4 and AT-4 combo. I get a perverse thrill out of nailing a BMP or T-80 with a top-down, turret shot. The M4''s full auto is very handy in CQB and the single shot is pretty accurate out to around 200 meters.

I''m really hoping they feature the XM8 as the primary weapon system in GR2. It''s my precious... That and the XM29 was canceled due to it not working and everything.

Hopefully they will take the time to smooth some of the game''s rough edges that plagued the first game.
