CompUSA Sucks

So I am trying to buy a DVD burner at CompUSA. I look at the ones on the shelf (all 6 of em) and pick up an external Pioneer one with a sign in front of it that says $199 with a $30 rebate. It is the only Pioneer one anywhere in sight. I get to the register and the cashier wants to charge me over $400 for it though. Ok fine the sign was for a drive that they don't have and someone put the wrong drive in its place. Mistakes happen I understand but I don't want to spend 400 bucks today. I told the cashier to void it and went to grab one of the other models, she rolls her eyes and turns to the next customer. I get back and she is helping this other couple who got screwed out of a mail in rebate because they sent in the wrong UPC or something, fine I can wait a minute while she calls the manager like they are asking. Only she won't call the manager, because the rebate manager is not there and she doesn't want to bother the sales manager. She tells me that she is busy now and to go to another lane. Nevermind that she is the only lane open and she still has my blank DVDs. Finally one of the other dozen or so employees that have been milling about opens a second lane but it was too late for me. Wrong sign, fine mistakes happen; eye roll, ok maybe she is having a bad day; the only cashier telling me to go away? Bah! I went to Best Buy and gave them my money, actually a little less of it for the same drive.

I don''t think that kind of thing is specific to CompUSA. Plenty of retail stores will give you the same problems. At least you didn''t have to deal with their sales people.

Good move. They''re a bunch of tools and their store is set up so you feel you''re at a flea market.

I feel for you Dokujin, I hate CompUSA too. Same type of thing happened to me with an External HD.

My CompUSA and BestBuy are in the same strip mall. When I told them I was going across the parking lot to Best Buy to get my External Hard Drive -- they could have cared less.

I don''t know how they stay in business with that attitude.

Not to worry, they won''t. The store''s shoddy appearance and disgruntled employees signify the beginning of the end for that dump.

This is why I tend to buy stuff online at Tigerdirect.com... I might pay a bit more but I get what I want. Sometimes I order from CDW.com (only because our account rep gives me a huge personal discount but their selection is geared for business). I''ve had great luck with svc.com for Mod parts... but for drives and such I stick with Tigerdirect.com

Best Buy sucks too.

None of you use newegg.com? They have everything, and most of everything has free shiping.

I almost always use newegg. All you have to do is wait a couple days for shipment, but the prices destroy those of the big box retailers. Service with newegg is great, no-frills 100% business. If you ask to exchange something or get a faulty product, you get another without any hassle or sales pitch.

Beginning? CompUSA''s been in decline for a loooong time... Opened new stores here and in a neighboring city a few years back, then closed them both 2 months later. Smart!

Hate''em, always have. I have better experiances at best buy.

After checking for deals at gotapex.com, fo course......

I tried for 20 minutes once to get an employees attention to get a power supply from a shelf out of my reach. As fate would have it, a 6''10"" customer walked in and was much more helpful than the staff.
I take my business elsewhere as well when I can.

They pay these people at CompUSA minimum wage. It''s a McJob, so you''re never gonna get good customer service there.

I try not to give any money to comp, they have the most heinously crude and anti customer return policies of any retailer, and they stick to them. Generally I don''t like giving money to best buy for similar reasons but they have only are obnoxious about things out of their computer department. Rule of thumb. don''t give money to companies that treat you and your dollar like crap, and expect you to pay a 15% return tax beacuse they say so.

Ya, I tried to return a joystick to Compusa once. They wouldn''t let me because it didn''t have the original box. I had the receipt, but I couldn''t even exchange it.

I almost exclusively buy from Newegg.

I returned a faulty video card to them and had a new one within 3 days, no problem.

I emailed them when the price of a DVD drive I was buying changed as I was buying it. They emailed back within 1/2 hour and said they would correct the price for me on the order.

I bought my new hard drives on monday this week. Wednesday night I was installing them.

Newegg knows customer service.

Looks like I''ll have to bookmark Newegg.com for future price checking

I bought a headphone/mike setup from Amazon.com. A Plantronics. I had another one so I knew they were good. It broke about 2 weeks after I got it. I went to Amazon.com, clicked on the return button. After selecting the item from all of my recent orders, it sent me to a page where I printed out a shipping label, and scheduled a time for FedEx to come to my house and get it, all on their dime. Then, they automatically immediately shipped me a new one via 2 day air shipping. All I had to do was make sure I sent out the broken one within a month. Never had to pay an extra penny or leave the house. They don''t have allot of somputer stuff, but if they have something I get it from them.

Yeah, these guys are awesome. If you''re in the area, they let you come by and pick up your products too. I picked up my new computer from ''em a year or so ago, and I was very pleased. Saved a bunch by not having to ship it too.

I''m not a huge fan of Amazon, and especially dislike how they handle things with their partners so that you always get jipped out of free shipping, but we did need to return some baby stuff and I really liked having UPS show up in the evening and to pick-up the box at my house instead of me having to go to hell and gone to get the package out... I don''t usually do well when it coming to getting snail mail out the door.

I have reached the point that I like Amazon and Newegg so much that I don''t shop much locally, anymore.

Yeah I dont usually either but I needed the drive right away and we don''t have a Fry''s within 100 miles

I do probably 95% of my shopping online these days.

newegg.com is definately the way to go. I''ve never had a problem with anything I''ve bought from them.
