Rifts Movie News

Rifts to become a movie
Palladium Books has signed an option with Walt Disney Pictures to have Jerry Bruckheimer develop a major motion picture based on the Rifts role-playing game. Palladium is not at the liberty of saying anything about the movie at this time, but Jerry Bruckheimer told a Rifts fan in an open forum on the jbfilms.com website that writer, David Franzoni, the man who wrote the screenplay for Gladiator has been hired to work on the Rifts movie script.

Wow a gaming movie that might not suck.

Just thought I would add wit the Rifts game in development it looks like Rifts might get some mass market appeal. Now if they would only update the core rules...

Hmm, I used to play Rifts, and even wrote one of their World Books. I sort of lost interest when the game failed to evolve, but have always thought it would make a great setting for an action/sci-fi movie. I just hope it gets better treatment than the D&D movie. Despite being a long time D&D fan, I''ve still managed to avoid ever seeing that vile thing.

Not to be too much of a downer, but folks do realize that about 98% of the properties (book, TV shows, true stories, etc.) that are optioned never make it to the big screen, right? It''s relatively cheap to option a property, so studios do so in the off chance that a blockbuster might come out of it.

Still, it''d be great to see a movie set in one of the lesser-known RPG universes.

Dark Sun!

which one?

I loved rifts, the idea left so much freedom for a game. Invid and vampires and zombies all in the same place...

Good times.

Invid and vampires and zombies

Oh my!

Dark Sun!

Mmmmm... Dark Sun...

They cancel that universe but let Dragonlance continue to slog through multiple new iterations, each a bit duller than the last. No justice, I''m tellin'' ya...

Well at least with Jerry Bruckheimer, it will have lots of inapropriate explosions!

Not based on the evidence. Bruckheimer is a no-talent assclown.
