Doubt anyone will be blaming the movies for this one, even though they should.
""Its that damn Mel Gibson.....influencing the kids"".
Anyone remember that episode of The Young Ones where Neil is trying to explain to Vivian that it dosen''t work because you just can''t get the last nail in? Funny sh*t!

Oh, and what a moron!
Man, I thought I was the only one that watched that......!

I don''t even think I could fit a ""regulation"" cross in my apt, let alone nail myself to it.
So you think movies are to blame when people do stupid things inspired by film? Feel the same way about violent video games?
Reread my original post before you take this all P&C.
I think we see eye-to-eye on this.
I was commenting on the lack of balance in the media-someone emulates a video game, then the media rises up to decry it, but where is the outrage when some moron decides to get literally ""nearer my god to thee"" by nailing himself to a 2x4 after seeing the orgy of violence that is The Passion?
I get what you are saying now. But I do think that if it is bad for people to blame one media wrongly, I don''t think it helps for other forms of media to be wrongly blamed too out of some sense that equal time is due.

Why not? The Passion is every bit as dangerous as GTA III to a miswired mind, but it gets a pass in the media because its about Christ?

Yeah, that Jesus-loving media sure lays off criticizing The Passion...
Maybe I didn''t get what you are saying. I don''t consider GTA or The Passion to be dangerous, miswired minds or no. A person with a ""miswired mind"" can takeanythingand use it for inspiration to do harm to themselves or others. A truly miswired mind doesn''t even need an outside influence - it can imagine whatever scenarios it need to all by itself.
It is wrong to point fingers at video games for violence done by people in the real world, and it would be wrong to point fingers at The Passion because some lunatic happened to see it the week he tried to off himself.

To add a bit - truly miswired minds aside - if media does have a negative influence on people, nothing about The Passion''s imagery or message puts it in the dangerous category - the same can''t be said of GTA III...
Come on, self-crucification isnt exactly a new entertainment form. It has been around...well... for centuries. It mostly involves various sects and cults, but I believe there have been lone loonies as well.

""Even though they should""? I assume you meant that sarcastically.

Well if the media is being fair, they should blame ""The Passion of Christ"" for this since they blamed ""Natural Born Killers"" for Columbine.
Of course, I personally don''t think you can blame hollywood for people doing stupid stuff.
