Stand Up Comedy

I recently got a subscription to Khaha, and have been listening to a lot of stand up comedy. Some of my favorites include Dana Gould, Dane Cook, Mitch Hedburg, Jim David, Richard Jeni, John Pinette, and Brian Regan, amongst others. Do you folks like stand up comedians, and if so, who?

I enjoy watching stand up on television but I found something I like even more. Last weekend I went to see stand up in person, for the first time, with my fiance and her family. We got there early and were front row center table (which can be bad I was told, lol). They had two headliners that night who have both been on Comedy Central and did a great job. They asked me a few questions and ribbed me a little bit because I let them know I was engaged (the only in the building was was engaged unfortunately). I think the added atmosphre combined with some beer made it one hell of a fun night.

A good laugh always makes me feel better. I plan to do it again soon, as well as going to another improv (that is another story).

Yeah, I''ve only seen live stand-up once, and that was Richard Jeni, who had me crying. It was indeed much better than watching it on TV. In a couple of weeks I''m going to go see John Pinette at the Hollywood Improv, and I can''t wait.

Oh man! That will rock. Tobyus and Gorack would like to make that show as well since we used to listen to him all the time.

""Time for the Epcot deathmarch. Let''s take the fat guy out and WALK HIM!!"" Good stuff

The energy in the room from live stand-up will always create a better experience than TV, IMHO.

Unless it''s George Carlin. He''s funny anywhere.

Heh, one of my favorites is...

""I was in Vegas where it was a buck twenty. A hundred a twenty degrees. But it was a dry heat. At least that''s what they told me as they were putting me in the ambulance...''clear! oh you''re very lucky Mr. Pinette, it was a good thing it was a dry heat...''""

Bill Hicks without a doubt was my all time favorite. I also enjoyed Sam Kinison a lot.

Among the living, Robin Williams I think is the all time improv master. For more political humor, I enjoy Lewis Black. And as Minas put so succinctly, George Carlin is indeed funny anywhere.

I''ve seen the Kids in the Hall live along with Carlin and Miller. It is much better live.

I think my two favorites for recordings are Eddie Murphy and Sam Kinison. I can still quote verbatum from their shows, just hilarious sh*t.

One nice thing about Rhapsody is that I''m now listening to a montage of Eddie, Sam, Denis, Chris and Ron on a whim. Damn, that''s convenient.

I saw Richard Jeni in person once and utterly loved his show. That''s a funny bastard (who is not available on Rhapsody, of course).

Rhapsody?

George Carlin, Chris Rock, Dane Cook, and Robin Williams are some of my favorites.

Actually, I just remembered, I saw Dane Cook live a couple of years ago. It was a totally spontaneous thing that he announced on his site, and we ended up there. MAN was he f-cking funny. He had me in tears. He''s VERY dynamic, which apparently means a different show each time.

Glen ""That Canadian Guy"" Foster and another guy ,that I can''t find the name to, are my favourites. I love stand-up overall though. The guy with no name was hilarious. If anyone has ever watched a stand-up comedian who does a reutine where he phones a few people with a demon voice can you tell me his name please.

Denis Leary''s ""No Cure For Cancer"" album is super awesome. Eddie Izzard''s HBO special ""Dressed To Kill"" was hands-down the funniest thing I''ve ever seen in my life, but I''ll be damned if I can find it anywhere.

CF- I loved Kinison when I was in junior high, then I grew up to be a liberal pansy so I can''t get into him as much any more.

Ulari- Seeing Carlin live was the closest thing to a religious experience I''m ever gonna get, I think. Great, great show.

Denis Leary''s ""No Cure For Cancer"" album is super awesome.

One of my all time favorites as well. I also like one of Sandler''s albums (the one with the goat).

If you want classic, clean humor, go with ""Bill Cosby ''Himself''""...

""It was because of my father that from the ages of seven to fifteen, I thought that my name was Jesus Christ and my brother, Russell, thought that his name was ''Dammit''. ''Dammit, will you stop all that noise? Jesus Christ, sit down!'' One day, I''m out playing in the rain, and my father yelled, ''Dammit will you get back in here?'' I said, ''Dad, I''m Jesus Christ''.""

I think that''s all of them Sandler''s had like, 6 ideas his whole life.

George Carlin is way too bitter for my tastes. Some of his older stuff just sounds ridiculously bitter to me. He can be incredibly funny, but the ""Bitter just to be bitter"" deal bothers me.

My favorite is Bill Hicks, who, while bitter in his later years, was smart and actually kinda hopeful. I also LOVE Eddie Izzard, his ""Glorious"" tour and ""Dressed To Kill"" are some of the best anywhere. I hear the new one, ""The Circle"" isn''t as good, but what is.

I''ve also heard bits of Woody Allen''s old stuff, and he''s quite funny. Bill Cosby is cool too, but if you get distracted you''ll lose the thread. And his voice kinda puts me to sleep.

I also heard some guy called Jeff Foxworthy and I think he stinks.

Oh, one final recommendation, Ernie Cline, a ""geek comedian"". I heard some of his bits about Airwolf, and letting out the inner geek, and he''s teh funnay.

I love standup comedy.

Hey Flux, I''ve been wanting to go to the Comedy Zone- let me know when you go back if you don''t mind.

Do you know where you can get them?

On amazon.com, or ebay...

Holy crap; I looked for Dressed To Kill as recently as last year, and it wasn''t on sale ANYWHERE.

I went to a club in Bristol.

You know they just opened a new one on Parkwest Blvd, right?

Didn''t know that. Time to check it out!

I hear there is a viscious chicken there.

I think its viscousity was broken down by oxidation and engine deposits...

Oops. Only one s in ""vicious"". Another dumb joke of mine further hampered by poor delivery.

Dumb, yet monty python related. I approved.

I absolutely love Bill Hicks. He''s one of my few heroes.
