Official Close Combat Match Thread: Bring It On

Any of you goons fans of Close Combat? Anybody want to play? I've been dying for a game for a while and most of my friends around here are too afflicted with ADD to play an RTS that requires actual strategy.

So who wants a game? I've got A Bridge Too Far, Russian Front, Battle of the Bulge and Normandy; the whole series except for the first one.

Don''t make me beg.

Go on, Beg!

Actually, I don''t have CC, so I''m out.

I''ve recently snagged CC 2-5, so which one did you want to play? Warning: I suck.

I also have CC4 and CC5, and since this thread was ressurrected I would be game for a game!

Whoa! This thread finally found some attention. Well grognards, I''m currently back in the ancestral hunting grounds of New York, but when I return next week to California, we''ll rock some Close Combat. I personally prefer CC4 to CC5, but I''m down for any of these.

Warning: I rule

I found a site for a Close Combat ladder the other day and I saw the name Sanjuro; is that you or is your name a famous general that someone else would use?

That''s me on the Wargamer.com ladder, but I could never get anybody to challenge me on that one. I mighta joined it a little late, it hasn''t seen any action seen last year. My name is actually a Toshiro Mifune reference.

I thought some of you guys were going to start playing Combat Mission?!

Is it worth getting? I likes a bit of the old stratemegy every once in a while.

If you can find CloseCombat 3, 4, or 5 on Ebay then I would say definately get it. Also Combat Mission is also very good.

Sanjuro: No one is challenging you?? That is no fun. Maybe we should all join the ladder and get it going again.

I saw copies at the local gamestop not to long ago, and it might be in the bins over at Microcenter. I''ll take a look.

If I find it, I''ll get it.

Yeah, get ''em if you can. CC3 seems to be the hardest one to get, so good luck.

Pity, ''cause CC3 is arguably the best one. Certainly the most unique of the series, with the minor RPG elements and what not.

Swampy- I''m definitely getting on board with Combat Mission, too. When I start at GameStop next week I''ll borrow a copy and install it.

I thought you couldn''t ""borrow"" crap from Gamestop anymore, due to pending litigation?

My manager told me that we could still ''borrow'' stuff, unless you mean that litigation against me personally, in which case I''ve been advised by my legal team not to comment.

I see what you mean.

Microcenter didn''t have it, although they did have Myth II, so the trip wasn''t a total loss.

I''m off to the Galleria tomorrow, so there is a EBX that usually has all the hard to find games. I''ll try there before I go ebay.

Not sure if it makes much sense searching for a game I know I''m going to get my ass kicked in.

Do these play on Win XP? I have them all I believe (played
them from day one), but have not played any of them in
a very long time. Can you list them so I can verify. I.e.
C1 is ?, C2 is ? etc.

Thanks!

Donan

p.s. Now to find them! Move 8 months ago and stuff
is still pretty much in boxes...<sigh>

I''m up for CM. CC, I gave up on after 3 had many of the same failings as I and II. Kind of frustrating, I was a real Atomic fanboi there for a while, and they blew it.

CM is the real thing, in my opinion. But then, this is one of the truly religious arguments in the wargaming community.

Robear

I can''t find any of these locally. Oh well. Looks like the game will go on without me, unless I find it on Ebay.

Yes they do, senor.

Will no one heed my call for Close Combat on Saturday morning? <points sword to Game Calendar>

Are you not entertained?!?

Thanks Sanjuro (re: Works on XP)

Alex thinks that the timing (early afternoon for you EST fellas) on Saturday''s Close Combat match may be too early. Anyone got a preferred time?
