The Passion of the Christ

I don''t know about anywhere else but this thing is selling out like crazy around here. I got my tickets and a day off for friday. Can''t wait!

Well since (as Gorack pointed out) the basis of your ""true, factual"" movie was inaccurate, maybe your decision to depict false and inflammatory images about the history of Christianity doesn''t help your assertion of not being anti-Christian...

The Puritans did burn witches at the stake in rare cases. Documenting one of those would be completely factual. The crimes against humanity during the inquisition are well documented.

Right. In case you didn''t know, Christianity is an organized religion. It amuses me when people pretend they don''t hold a position just because they call it something else.

It is? I would say that the different sects of Christianity are organized religion, but that a Christian worshipping God in his own way without going to some building every month, identifying himself as a member of an organized sect, and giving money/tithing to the religion as a whole would be unorganized.

Ral,
I believe what the guy was trying to say is that he is not against Christianity in specific or the Christian faith, but the organized aspect of the faith or of a faith in general.
One can be a Christian without being part of an organized practice of it.

meh...this thread belongs in the P&C section!

I was unable to get tickets yet due to churches buying them all a week ago. It actually pisses me off because you normally can''t do it that early, at least in this town. I will see it next week I guess.

I debated putting it there but decided to start it here. If it goes downhill anymore I guess Certis and Elysium can move it, if they want. At that point, I will quit reading it.

Edit: Ahh, didn''t take long to move. Enjoy the ""discussion"" guys.

*hops back over the wall*

I think any thread with 2 or more posts by ralcydan automatically gets moved to the P&C forum.

There has never been a movie in history that has provoked such a reaction.

I believe ""Birth of a Nation"" could be said to have inspired similar reactions (and still does). ""Triumph of the Will"" is still probably more controversial, and has a similar purpose, to strengthen a people''s belief in their cause.

Robear

Well Batman was the first ""event"" movie, and Birth of a Nation is certainly the most controversial.

I have not seen the movie yet, but my understanding is that it is more of an ""experience"" than entertainment. Basically we watch some guy get the sh*t beat out of him for an hour and a half. Of course that guy is a god.

From the previews it looks like this Jesus is a tough guy Jesus that can take a pounding and still keep going. I''m tired of the wimpy and pious Jesus movies. Look at James Cavezuls (sic) expression after Judas betrays him. It''s a look as if to say ""let''s get this started"".

Anyway, any movie that provokes this much intelligent thought and discussion is by definition a work of art. Way to go Mel, I''m looking forward to Road Warrior 4.

A friend of mine thought the cameo by Tina Turner singing ""We Don''t Need Another Hero"" in Hebrew was a little odd.

I didn''t even know there was a Road Warrior 2 and 3.

Actually its, Mad Max, Roadwarrior, Escape from Thunderdome, and I there is plans for a fourth.

Oh, I guess I''ve seen them all then. I thought Thunderdome was pretty lousy, thanks, in part, to the aformentioned Tina Turner. I was hoping they had made sequels to the second one that were more action based. The Road Warrior was my favorite of the three, although Mad Max was pretty good too.

You know Mel Gibsons voice is dubbed in the original Mad Max movie because his accent was too thick. I don''t think he has an accent anymore.

Thunderdome sucked. The second one was my favorite.

Thunderdome sucked.

But it was eerie how that line from the movie described the audiences who went to see it in the theater: Two men enter; one man leaves. I can only assume the second was asleep or had choked on his popcorn.

Little do you know how truthfully you speak...

In Wichita, Kansas, one middle-aged woman died of an apparent heart attack while watching the film''s climactic crucifixion scene, a local television station reported.

There it is. Proof God hates old people.

Or women from Kansas.

I''m hoping to see this movie over the weekend.

Or just that one woman...

Bah, this movie is no match for Life of Brian.

I wonder if it makes enough at the box office this weekend to warrant a sequel...

Don''t hold your breath. It took almost 2000 years for the next book in the series to come out.

On a related note, I''m still waiting for ""Titanic II""

The Employee Evaluation of the Pilate - in theaters in 2006!

LOL!
Gotta love the daily show!

God made my bed!

That lazy bastard!
