So very very bad

Gamespot gave Big Rigs their lowest score ever. The review makes for pretty humorous reading, and seeing the video review footage of the game only makes you wonder if they scored too high?

Anyway, what's the absolute worst game you've ever played? Not the most disappointing, but the flat out worst.

Well, the readers definitely scored it too high.

In theory, Big Rigs is supposed to be a racing game based on big trucks that speed through various US trucking routes in some kind of effort to deliver cargo before the competition gets there first--or else the truck gets busted by the law. At least, this is what the back of the game''s box would have you believe. Let us make it very clear that these statements are all horrible, horrible lies. There is no coherent goal in Big Rigs. There is no cargo to be delivered. There are no police chases. In fact, there really isn''t anything much in the game.

I wonder if poor saps who bought this game can sue for false advertisement.

(Un?)Fortunately I''m kind of a review-slave...Mostly because I don''t have the cash to buy games just for the hell of it.

But when I was a kid there was this game that was supposed to be a D&D game, it was even put out by SSI. But all it was was like D&D olympics for your PC Jr. It was archery and jousting, but it was just so....boring.

Anyone know what this game was?

Hillsfar

Watching those videos was truly awe-inspiring. I can''t believe someone''s going to try to make money off of that ""game."" Amazing, truly amazing.

--edit--
This reader''s commentary almost made me pee my pants.

Red Baron 3D made me want to cry.

I never really got into the game either. But I always have a hard time selling games I bought. Seriously. 8)

Patriot. Yeesh, that was terrible.

Die by the Sword. I had to play through several hours of this because my roommate thought it was the best game ever. I probably hate it simply because I was forced to play it at gunpoint, though it did suck pretty bad.

Oh, Lords of Everquest ranks up there.

Sierra''s Outpost was my worst of the ""modern"" gaming age. There were some real stinkers in the beginning (Dam Busters comes to mind), and there were many poor ones on the 2600 (even for then).

Pool of Radiance 2. That was the game that brought my habit of buying new releases that looked cool when they came out to a screeching halt.

Ultima IX still makes me angry when I think about it now

I never really got into the game either. But I always have a hard time selling games I bought. Seriously.

Get help Spun!

I tried to think of something non-cliche, but I''m going to have to go with the old standby. E.T. for the 2600 is the worst game ever made.

Ok, not to start a flame war, but, dammit man, them''s fightin'' words!

Do you mean the Dynamix Red Baron? I probably played that game more than any other, ever....It rocks!

Actually, I think Custer''s Revenge is the worst game ever made. Not that I''ve ever played it. I just have a feeling.

Having owned and played ET, I''d have to second Elysuim. It gets unfairly knocked, though- I had a LOT of really bad games for that system. The port of Pole Position I owned is notable. It gave you a race track with no cars to race against and no end goal. Just an endless, boring track. Going on and on and on forever.

Not to make you feel old or anything, I wasn''t even born when that game was out.

Bloodbowl for the PC made E.T. for the 2600 look like the entire Ultima series rolled into one. I NEVER return games or sell them later. I returned Bloodbowl.

""Journey: Escape"" for the 2600 was really bad.

You had to get the band to their spaceship before the paparazzi got them. The only good thing about it was that it played the song ""Escape"" over and over again in the little 2600 tones. That was entertaining.

I vaguely remember ET on the 2600. It seemed to me ET looked alot like Strongbad imagines himself in his first videogame.

Raider''s of the Lost Ark or the Swordquest (I think that''s what it was called) games were a lot worse in my opinion than any other 2600 game. They tried to be complex, and I never had a clue what I was supposed to be doing.

I thought Journey: Escape was at least amusing.

Edit: I wanted to make sure I was recalling the name right. I did. I can remember the names of 20 year old Atari games but I can''t remember a Unix command overnight.

Anyway here''s a brief rundown.

Swordquest: Earthworld
Swordquest: Fireworld
Swordquest: Waterworld
The fourth and final Swordquest game, Airworld, was never finished.

Each game came with a comic book with a crew of characters more multicultural than the Planeteers. I could never determine any link between the comic''s story and the game. But then how do you advance the story on a game system with basically no ability to display text?

After reading that review for Big Rigs, a score of 1 seems to be a little too generous.

The worst game I''ve ever played, by far, is Valhalla Chronicles. Oh. My. God. It''s allegedly an RPG but I never was able to open the character sheet to see how my guy was progressing, let alone do any sort of skill point assignment. It was riddled with broken quests. Treasure was worthless since none of the merchants anywhere in the game ever had enough money to buy it. When NPCs would tell me to ""be careful in the forest"" the forest would be empty of enemies.

It was so bad I spent more time laughing out loud in amazement than anything else. They somehow forgot to put ""game"" in the game. As a result it''s the only PC game (other than Mad Dog McCree) that I''ve kept in my collection just because it''s so incredibly bad.

Do you mean the Dynamix Red Baron? I probably played that game more than any other, ever....It rocks!

No, the original Red Baron was just ""Red Baron"". Red Baron 3D was released in the late 90s. I''m not sure if it was an alternate name for Red Baron II or if it happens to some special version of it. The name, of course, is stupid either way since the original Red Baron was 3D, too. Probably a result of the upcoming 3D card hype at that time. Overall the game didn''t live up to the expectations of the fans of RB, but there''s still an active community beneath the title providing fan-made content. IIRC last year someone released a mod that upgraded the models and added highres textures and whatnot. Looked great.

There''s this horrible abbomination called Sniper that recently came out for PC. Supposedly FPS. I honestly don''t remember ever uninstalling a game the actual same day I installed it.

Well, with Sniper it took roughly 30 minutes, 25 of which was spent hassling with non-working options, to realize that my HD is insulted by installing such a dung on it.

I honestly can''t remember what it was called, but I remember there was a Tarot card game for the NES that was one of the most god-awful productions man has ever been responsible for.

The instruction booklet (as I remember it) made for humorous reading however, as it tried desperately to mak Tarot cards on a NES sound as spiritual as meeting the Dalai Llama.

Ah, I think you might be referring to the game Taboo. Indeed, it was a frightening beast of mythical proportions. What were they thinking? It''s like the extra card stuff in Super Mario Brothers DX.

Hmm... my worst game ever... I''m sort of embarassed to admit that I kind of enjoyed E.T. - but I was at that age where seeing the things moving on the screen when I moved the joystick caused me no end of excitement.

I really didn''t like Total Annihilation: Kingdoms, but I''m kind of drawing a blank for the worst game I''ve ever played... maybe Back to the Future on the NES?

Witchhaven 2 for me.
It was based on the build engine i believe.
Absolutely no play testing was done on the game.
We even tried it multiplayer and when you killed someone the animation for that person didnt change so they would still look like they were running in place until they hit the respawn button.
It was horrible, I''ve kept it in case I ever need to be reminded on how not to make a game.

Star Strike for the Intellivision

Shortest game EVAR!

Hey there! Run this trench and bomb six things on the ground and you are done! Congratulations! On hardest difficulty setting, you dont even get a second chance to bomb. If you solved it on hardest difficulty, it would take probably 2 minutes.

Speaking of bad and short games, Half-Life: Blueshift took me an hour and thirty minutes on medium. I smashed the PC Gamer record by thirty minutes. Although I took it back the next day so not to arrouse suspicion

I picked up a game called Nautilus out of the bargain bin. it''s an adventure game, but the interface was so bad and the puzzles were so ridiculous, I just couldn''t play it.
