Gibbs Era Begins Anew

For Redskins fans this has been a long time coming.

This is as big as Dallas landing Parcells as head coach.

Hail to the Redskins!

All we need now is for Tom Landry to take over head coach of the Eagles or Giants next year.

Oh. I thought this was a BeeGees thread. What a disappointment.

How dare you rain on my parade!

Shoo!

/Disco dances out of the thread

It''s hilarious; it''s ALL that''s been on the news the past couple days here in the DC area. You''d think Jebus was coaching the team now. But, I can understand the excitement; a team with such a rich history has become a living joke. This is the man who could restore it to glory. I may actually become a fan again! That said, Snyder has a way of turning everything he touches (football-related) into a turd, so we''ll see.

I shed many tears and play numerous small violins for poor Spurrier.

I predict that he shall not live up to the hype.

I second that prediction. In fact, I predict without some big free agent signings, the Redskins will once again not go to the playoffs next year.

No I dont expect them to go to the playoffs next year.

However, I do expect them to have good conditioning and I expect them to win games in december. (hell second half of the season for that matter)

I expect them to be able to make stronger halftime adjustments. To be able to hold leads and to overcome big point deficits.

I expect them to have a respectable running game. (has anyone been able to consistantly stop the counter tray?)

I expect the players to believe in themselves as a unit much as Parcells has the cowboys.

I expect them to have a respectable running game.

Especially after they sign Dillon...

They very well may not make it to the playoffs next year, but nobody expects that out of Gibbs his first time back. He''s said himself that he expects the process to take a few years, and if it happens more quickly that''s gravy. What you won''t see with Gibbs at the helm are penalties like false start and personal fouls that are a sign of bad coaching. He runs a tight, hard-working ship and demands respect and effort from his players. I have total faith in his abilities.

When I came in to work Thursday a couple of the first shift guys told me to ""guess who''s back in football"". I guessed a couple of retired players and they said ""no, it''s a coach"". So I rattled off about 10 or 15 coaches from the late 70''s through the 90''s. Each time I was told ""no, but you''re getting warmer"". When I finally admitted I had run out of ideas, they said ""Gibbs is back!"" ""Who?"" I responded.

I guess fame is somewhat relative.

Gibbs is good for the NFL. Good for Snyder for getting him back to coaching the Redskins. They''ll never be as good as the Pats...but good for the Redskins.
