My God, the media is full of morons.

From the Washington post

Yet another lie uncovered about Iran's hidden nuclear programs, but the extent of the "analysis" in the media is this gem:

Iran denies seeking nuclear weapons, insisting that it is only exercising its right to develop a civilian nuclear power industry, including its own indigenous supply of nuclear fuel.

Am I the only person who wonders why if Iran is only exercising its rights, it feels it has to lie repeatedly for years about its activites?

The media can report on the intentions of Osama, Saddam, the Iraqi insurgents, and the President of the United States, all on supposition, but can't see throughthisstory?

Wow. Too bad that the article wasn''t making the point you''re implying here.

Here''s another gem from further along in that article:

Iran''s explanation "” that it was only interested in developing nuclear power for electricity "” was greeted with skepticism then and now because Iran sits atop vast reserves of oil and natural gas.

Having actually read the whole article, it appears that the article isn''t an opinion piece, trying to deny that Iran is seeking a nuclear weapons program. The article is more of an informative piece, covering what''s been going on, who''s investigated who, and where things stand right now.

The line that you quoted, Ral, was simply a paraphrasing of Iran''s claims. It was in no way an ""analysis"" presented by the article.

If anything, the article seems to be more about where the investigation currently stands, and how Iran managed to sneak their nuclear program under the US and allies'' collective noses for so long (short summary: they were keeping an eye on Iran''s communications and trades with Russia, figuring that would be where it would acquire nuclear materials and technology. And they were right, in fact foiling many attempts there, but they missed the other ways it acquired this technology).

So nice try, but this is not a case of the media employing morons.

[edit]
To further clarify, yes, anyone with half a brain can see that Iran had a secret program to develop nuclear technology, probably with the intent to develop weapons, which is something the article didn''t deny. It only stated facts at this time regarding Iran''s claims, not its intentions.

[2nd edit]Rewrote the first sentence; it unintentionally came out as a personal insult against Ral, but I didn''t realize that until I reread it and noticed how it sounded. My attempts at witty banter so often turn out wrong...[/2nd edit]

Isn''t it ironic that all the other countries, Iran, Libya, North Korea, were developing weapons of mass destruction, but Iraq was completely behaving itself and did nothing wrong. Guess which country we go to war with? - Sarcasm Boy

Hmmm... isn''t it funny that all those other countries were not under heavy UN/US sanctions and military monitoring via the DMZ/no-fly zones, and it is turning out that they were the ones developing WMD''s?

Shiver me timbers!! Libya was under heavy UN Sanctions. Walk the plank!

Arrrr! Ye scalywag and ye''re land-lubbin'' facts!
