I'm in! Hopefully will have lightsabering along the lines of Jedi Academy (still waiting on a new ladder level; killing Jawa Sith isn't as novel as it once was).
Ok, yeah, that would be cool. But other then throwing in Star Wars vehicles and weapons, will this game differentiate itself from every other multiplyer shooter? Once the novely of flying a speeder wears off, what keeps me playing this instead of something else?
Like I said, we''ve just got that short description, so obviously it''s far to early to see what they''ll do, but I hope this isn''t just another cookie-cutter ""me too"" game that''s trying to rely solry on the strength of the Star Wars license.
I personally have no intention to get this one if it just delivers what BF1942 has already been offering for quite a while gameplay-wise. First of all, it''s a multiplatform title, and with the PS2 being the lowest common denominator I don''t expect to be overly beautiful (but still a resource hog). Also, the mod scene is all over BF1942 now; doubtful that they''re going to switch. I''d rather go for BF: Vietnam instead of this one.
I think that rocks. BF1942 is perhaps my favorite game of all time, and I''ve sort of been wondering where all the clones are. I''d like to see someone with a (hopefully) fresh perspective bring some new ideas to the formula.
That said, there''s probably a pretty good chance it''ll fall flat and feel like an excuse to use the Star Wars license. Still, I''m curious to see how it comes out.
Other ideas for BF1942 style games:
Battlefield: Civil War Reenactment Weekend
Battlefield: Gay Biker Bar
Battlefield: Bingo Hall
Battlefield: Barrista is the one I''m really looking forward to.
There is already a Star Wars mod for BF:1942 with Hoth as the main map. I think the people creating that one were in discussions with LucasArts, so maybe they have formalized the relationship. From the alpha version I played it was okay, nothing special, and the AT-ATs were very difficult to drive.
Driveable vehicles include AT-AT walkers, X-Wings, and tauntauns. Maps are separated into two eras: the Clone Wars and the Galactic Civil War. Methinks the Clone War servers won''t have a lot of players on them.

You are underestimating the target audience. Today''s 10-14 year-olds don''t have the same scorn for all things ""prequel"" as the mature, refined crowd has...
It''d be interesting, at least, to see how the Clone Wars maps pull off the droid classes. I''d hate to think Separatist players could respawn as droid tanks and droid fighters; there''d be no need to camp then!
Over T-day I got to watch the original Star Wars, Empire and Return of the Jedi with two young kids who had only seen the phantom menace and clone wars and one who had never seen Star wars at all. To be honest it was a restorative process. By the end of the weekend they where all running out the room arguing about who was going to be vader or luke and tooling up the light sabers to beat each other sensless... I was so proud I practically cried :). Now if Lucas can just leave things the hell alone I''m actually big on Star Wars again.
Maybe you should write Lucas with that story. You might also add that if he just wants more money he can release ""double secret special editions"" of the movies that are just the untouched originals. Sort of like ""coke classic"".
I would be willing to play this Star Wars game if everyone here picked it up.

If they release a screen and it looks somewhat interesting, sign me up.
The real question is: can they have another hit like KOTOR?

So it''s BF 1942, but with blasters. I know there''s really no details yet, but so far I''m less then impressed.

Try driveable AT-ATs and AT-STs duking it out in a snow storm with a great dyanmic lighting system and blaster damage effects on the exterior armor.

It''s different than all the rest because it isn''t taking place during World War II. You can''t get any more cookie-cutter than those games.
