I need to find a link since I heard this on the radio heading into work, but:
The city and county of LA have issued an order to all vendors wishing to sell in that area requiring them to remove from products all references and labels containing the words "master" or "slave" - as these terms are racially offensive.
Anyone who works with electronics and computers will know that these are commonplace terms. I never realizedanyonefound them offensive.
I realize that we are should be reasonably tolerant and sensitive, but isn't this a bit much? Is slavery really such a hot-button issue 140 years later that we need to start removing perceived references to it?
