Wesley Clark - man of strong opinions

Gen. Weesley Clark was just on Hardball following the latest debate. Chris Matthews asked him about 6 times whether he supported gay marriage. I still don't know whether he does.

The reason George Bush is both loved and hated is because he is clear about his principles and stands by them. Why can't a Democrat do the same?

Clark will support gay marriage if the polls support it. Otherwise, he won''t. He''s a Clintonite, and uses the playbook.

As for other Democrats...well, you''re probably painting with too broad a brush there, ral.

Only a little bit. Kerry dodged too, and the rest hem and haw when it comes to telling the difference between a civil union and a marriage. Add in the flip flops from Dean and the rest on every issue from Social Security to Iraq, and they give the basic impression that none of them had coherent views before deciding to run for president.

And you wouldn''t put someone like Dole in same shoes? (the coherent views part).

I think democrats in general got excited about Clark cause they thought, ""Oh my god, someone who might actually be a democrat with some balls."" Turns out...not so much.

Call me crazy and tired (i''m at least the latter) but I think people like Dean because at least he seems to have some balls and not always worry about pissing people off. And yes, I agree with you completely about Bush. Time Magazine online has about 3-4 articles asserting the same thing right now (which I linked to through cnn''s politics page, you can go find em there). And basically most of them summed up to ""people generally like Bush. and know exactly where they stand with him and his views. which is why about 70% of the country likes him, and about 49% agree with him. There''s about 2% undecided (morons by implication in the article) and 49% that vehemently disagree with him."" Lots of stuff about how polarizing Bush is, because he actually forthrightly stands up for his views.

Would be swell if there was a candidate who''s domestic policies jived with mine, AND he was forthright about it.
