Chris Matthews gets his nose Braun

I'm watching Softball with Chris Matthews and Carol Moseley Braun is getting a free hour-long commercial. The Senator just got a question about judicial nominees and she responded that the Democrats in the Senate should be commended for preventing up-down votes on judges because they are "right-wing ideologues".

Now, I hear this a lot - that these judges must be stopped because they are out of the mainstream. Well, if they are so far out of the mainstream, why are a majority of America's elected officials willing to confirm them? Anybody?

Um, party line politics? This was a trick question right Ral?

Yeah, I think both sides are full of it when it comes to confirmation hearings.

And I just love it when the Democrats say Republicans held up more judicial nominees during the Clinton Administration than the Dems are doing now. Come on, people, there''s a difference: those were Clinton appointees.

There are lots of divisions in the party. George Bush couldn''t nominate David Duke and expect him to be confirmed - the party would revolt. If these judges were really such extremists, there would be opponents in the party. The reality is that these judges aren''t extremist at all.

And another Democrat misrepresentation. The current tactic of preventing the judges from even getting a vote hasneverbeen used to deter judicial nominees.

Who? Me? A Democrat? Surely you wouldn''t associate me now with that pack of spineless fools?

Nevertheless, the Republicans didn''t have to do the 30-hour talkathon to hold up Clinton''s nominees; they ran Congress back then!

Giving them the Constitutional authority to tell Clinton to take his nominees and stick them where the sun don''t shine. The Democrats are using a procedural loophole, never before used to block judicial nominees. The only reason that the rule hasn''t been changed is that there are opportunistic Republicans who now realize that they can use the same tactic when the Democrats are in power next.

On the off-chance the Democrats ever come to power before the sun explodes, Republicans doing a talkathon isn''t a bad thing, since it''ll stop Democrats. Nothing wrong with stopping the bane of all things good.

Haven''t they approved like 168 of GWB''s nominee''s? And they are only blocking 4?

Yep, belt500, that would be true. But damnit they''re thwarting the 51% majority and...

Are all politicians petty morons? I''m just asking. Pointing the moron stick at both sides of the aisle mind you.
