He hasn''t lost his touch in FFXI so far...

Well sorry folks, I was the last to arrive and first to leave last night, I had semi emergency work issue come up. Anyway, next week should be better if we are all about the same level and can group.

What Lv. are we going to be on Monday?

Lets try to get up to around level 8-10 again.

I have a Lv.9 Warrior, I can probably use that...

Found this while browsing some forums.

Here is a table that summarizes optimal level ranges when forming parties (groups). This table is based on two formulas posted by Phyresis elsewhere on these FFXI-VNboards.

---------- CAUTION: -----------
I cannot validate the accuracy of this table, because it is based on two unverified formulas, one of which is admittedly an oversimplification of a much more complex formula. I have duplicated Phyresis'' comments about these formulas in direct quotes at the end of this post.

Hopefully, your feedback in this thread will help us to further fine-tune the forumlas or to tweak this table a bit for better accuracy.

Also, be aware that these are *theoretical* optimums concerned only with how EXP is penalized for lower level members in a group. If your group level range is too wide, you may have problems just keeping the lower level members alive, or if the low levels are trying to perform a front-line task such as tanking, your party may suffer because they are too low level to be effective against the mobs you''re fighting. So use common sense when actually applying the recommended level ranges. These numbers should work really well for back-line support characters such as bards and white mages, or for ""extra"" nukers like black or red mages.
------------------------------------------

----- Grouping Level Range Table -----
Assume you want a target of 90 PERCENT exp per kill for the lowest member of the party. If that is your target, then:

** Levels 1 - 8 : all party members should be exactly the same level (a 1-level difference drops you to 75% or 80%)
** Levels 9 - 12: range of +1 level from lowest member (9 to 10, 10 to 11, 11 to 12, 12 to 13)
** Levels 13 - 17: range of +2 levels from lowest member (13 to 15, 14 to 16, etc.)
** Level 18: range of +3 levels from lowest member
** Level 19: range of +4 levels from lowest member
** Levels 20 - 23: range of +5 levels from lowest member
** Levels 24 - 32: range of +6 levels from lowest member
** Levels 33 - 41: range of +7 levels from lowest member
** Level 42: range of +8 levels from lowest member

---- At level 43+ it gets weird because of the new formula that kicks in when the highest member is 51+ ---

** Levels 43 to 45: make sure no character is over level 50 or exp plummets for the lowest member.
** Levels 46 to 59: range of +5 levels from lowest member
** Levels 60 to 69: range of +6 levels from lowest member
** Levels 63 to 70: range of +7 levels ONLY IF highest member is 70

Note: the easiest way to apply this table to your party is this: Look at the lowest-level member who wants into your party. Find his level on the chart. Then add the indicated + value to his level. If the highest level member of the party is within that range, then you''re golden. Remember: use this chart based on the LOWEST member of the group.

So basically we need to stay at a similar level.

Just tell me what level you need me to be, and I''ll get there.

You know... I have never understood why they do crap like this. It''s supposed to be social game, you should not be deliberately building barriers between people that want to play together *sigh*. It''s just so dam short sighted, I have seen this kind of artificial level foundries drive so many good folks out of these games.

They have to have it to some extent. They just should make it more transparent. If its such that player is forced to worry about it, the devs have failed.

I suggest we all pick a job get it up to level 8-10 by next monday. Then have another job/jobs you play on the off days. That way we can all stay around the same level.

Actual there is really no need for it all, it''s a artificial device to stop twinkling which is only a problem in the minds of those who think everyone should have work as hard as they did at their virtual grind job. Any level should be able to group with any other level, the usually solution with mobs that are tuffer then the lowest member they just get cap experience and everyone else has the burden of keeping them alive. Even that is a woefully inadequate and ineloquent solution but it at least it''s functional as apposed to this kind of mire that forces youto only group with people of virtually the same level or be, yes here it come OR be Punished, and we all know how MMORPG''s are all about how to punish the customer for trying to have any kind of fun :). Fun has been identified as being unbalancing so so preserver the integrity of the game it must be nerfed to better perpetual the tedium that must repersent balance in all MMP''s.

I''ll be a Lvl 8 WHM by Monday. See you then.

I''ll be a Lv.8 Black Mage by Monday too.

How big can groups be?
Are you guys still having a blast playing it?
How many hours do you guys play in a typical week?

A party can consist of 6 players. You can link multiple parties together in an Alliance, allowing either 18 or 24 players to play together.

I am playing a few hours a day, and having a blast.

I can either be a lvl 8 monk or lvl 9 warrior with the same character - any preference from the group?

Something to stand in front.

Do all players in the alliance get exp for a kill?

I''m for one having a blast playing it... then again it''s only been 2 weeks. The only complaint that I have about the game is, making shortcuts by writing macros... which was pain but now I think I got the hang of it. Also the case, where I would like to set way-point on the map... other wise everything is good.

I play about 2-3hr on Tuesday threw Thursday, Monday I play whole night...

I just looked at my playtime yesterday and saw that I was nearing 5 days played. So I took last night off........ of course that was because I had real life obligations, I''ll be back on tonight.

Yep.

Right which is why it gets tweaked some. The problem is the dev go to far with harsh restrictions. And also, they are blatant and highly visible. Blatantly visible design choices are the source of most players biggest gripes. You get inundated with ""Well why cant I do that. That''s lame!""

I shall be a level 8 Red Mage.....ooooooooooo
