Weekly Reading

This week:

Red Storm Rising - On a whim, I decided to re-read my aged copy of Tom Clancy's World War III epic from the mid '80s. Ah, nostalgia. Back then, no one knew what the Stealth Fighter was like (Frisbee?), the F-14 ruled naval aviation, there were both "good" and "bad" Germans, the Flight II Los Angeles-class was the state-of-the-art in submarine warfare, and satellite warfare was a real possibility, not a pipe-dream.

Just bought John Steakley''s ''Armor'' myself. After picking it up in the bookstore almost every time I''m in the sci-fi section, I finally picked it up tonight to see if it lives up to the attraction. I''m seriously hoping for a Starship Troopers kind of experience.

Ah, Armor... Liked that one. Not campy like Starship Troopers. Made me grit my teeth reading it. I give it a 4 out of 5 for emotional impact

Just finished the Da Vinci Code.

Its a great book! It has a good ending and be sure to read the prologue er whatever is written after the ending. It adds back some spice to the good ending.

They drop a huge bombshell in the middle of the book that the ""good"" ending cant live up to. Of course, I figured something out about the ending halfway through the book so that took some of the ""sting"" out of it.

You have to read this book for the bombshell in the middle. All of you need to reliquinsh your Holy Grail virginity!

I also recommend Angel & Demons. The bombshells in that book arent as big as Da Vinci Code but there are more and the ending is consistent and thrilling.

Well I''m still working my way through Steve Eriksons Malazan Books of the Fallen. I''m working on Memories of Ice right now, and there is no doubt about it. Steve Erikson is my new favorite fantasy author. IMO, he has set the high water mark for epic fantasy.

Well I''m still working my way through Steve Eriksons Malazan Books of the Fallen . I''m working on Memories of Ice right now, and there is no doubt about it.

Me too although I''m only on the second book, once I wrap that up I think I''ll cleanse my pallet with Terry Prachett''s newest paperback Nightwatch and then I''ll hit Memories of Ice.
