Actually that explains everything. So what's the story on Ralcydan? (Goes to grab popcorn).

Certis asked him to change the overall tone of his posts in P&C. He agreed to. A few days later he accused Clinton of raping Chelsea Clinton's friends. Certis had enough and banned him.

Trying to work out the exact moment someone was 'fired' is a guilty pleasure of mine...

I feel no guilt about it.

I know sometimes I can get a bit ranty, and lean right, but damn.

I've been banned before, but that was back in 2008.

JD, I spoke up for Ralcydan several times, but he just seemed to really have no desire to "sugarcoat" any of his opinions to make them acceptable for the kind of respectful discourse we were trying hard to establish (or re-establish) at the time. I have it on good authority that he's a good guy; he's just the kind of guy that you know not to mention politics around when you're grilling with the neighbors. We all know people like that.

Sorry --- nice people don't act like jerks when discussing politics.

The value of Ralcydan on this forum was that he had a mindset and perspective drastically different than mine, yet it was thorough and informed. I may not have agreed with him but his conclusions were researched and logical. He just had a propensity to do tit for tat with analogies that were vulgar and not even remotely alike.

It would be like accusing Obama of being gay because his kissed a male dignitary (proper to the custom of the dignitary) as a response to the very real accussation of Senator Craig being gay and a hypocrite for being caught soliciting sex with a man and being an outspoken member of a political party opposed of civil rights for gays.

Ah, Goman, you weren't here then, right? Ralcydan enjoyed pushing buttons. Trolling, in other words. It was well beyond just "being a jerk".

More like accusing of Bill Clinton of being gay because he killed Vince Foster, after the latter broke off the relationship and threatened to tell the world about all the women Bill boinked in Whitewater-owned properties that were paid for by Saudis through organized crime cutouts who worked for Clinton's election team... That's more like what I remember.

I feel like I vaguely remember that time... but what's amusing to me is I seem to remember P&C at that time being pretty right leaning too. Now almost every thread on politics gets at least some mention of the left echo chamber.

"Echo-chamber" is the flopping of P&C.

I totally don't know what that means... or what is supposed to be going on in that picture.

Wait, isn't that LeBron in the background with the headband?

It's when a player tries to force a foul where none exists, usually by flopping to the ground and making a big show. Note how the guy appears about to crash earthward with a terrifying force, as though beset by the very winds of Aeolus, so mighty is the illegal push he just received, even though he isn't being touched. I feel like calling Echo-Chamber is more or less the same thing.

You're right, I'm busted--I don't actually know anything about the basketball, I knew of flopping as a soccer phenomenon, but image search calls up mostly NBA shots. Failboat for me on that, but my point remains. Quit echo-chambering me, man!

(Bonus, right guy this time)

I actually don't know anything about Basketball either*, so this is a hilarious new phenomenon that I need more gifs of.

*Other than that a few years ago there was some talk of a dress code for players coming to stadiums/arenas that caused a big stink amongst the players... because... they apparently didn't want to dress as professionals, which clearly sends a great message to young fans... and made them look less professional than high school athletes who have always in my time I've seen them, been required to look nice at school the day before or the day of a game.

This is a flop:

and this is a double flop:

So what's the P&C equivalent of a double-flop?

Dueling Echo-Chamber claims. You emoticon, but it's happened.

crying "echo chamber" as well as picking apart a perfectly serviceable analogy to avoid addressing what's actually being illustrated. Throw in semantic nitpicking and you get the perfect flop storm.

Can we add in "using the term straw man as a euphemism for "nuh uh!":)

Oh yeah, that too.
