Our Dirty Shameful Secret

Useless is such a relative term in EQ. You have plenty of bozos who think all classes but their class are useless. Hell you even have 100% jaded people that think all classes including theirs is useless.

You remove at least %50 of the frustration if your group (like the one we will start here) doesnt give a rats ass as long as you are having fun and can contribute anything at all.

Two things have revolutionized EQ while it still is the core game. The phat loot economy has plummeted. Uber newb items sell for dirt cheap. I mean on the order of something that used to sell for 5000 sells for 150. Or something that sold for 1500 sells for 40. The other thing is the plane of knowledge. No more boat trips. No more waiting for gates. No more running through medium-high level zones to get to the good newbie zones if youre the wrong faction.

Well perhaps ""useless"" is a bit overstated, but Shaman''s are a better class I think. I actually have a level 53 shaman on the Innoruuk server, it is a very fun class to play.

I often was tempted to play Everquest, but the tales of how timeconsuming and addictive it is scared me away.
Its just like being afraid of switching from mariuhana to heroin

I have the feeling that, if you play a MMORPG for a long time, the reaching of goals replace the fun somehow.
I hope you guys can conserve your fun for a long time, remember ""The journey is the reward""

I found an old page of Sanya Thomas, which was an heavily addicted EQ-Player before switching to the other side of the table by joining Mythics DAoC-Staff. If you''re into EQ, you may like her rants, i particulary like this one:

""...At any rate, I had been running on the hamster wheel of leveling with a friend. He had been awfully quiet for about forty kills, and then he said something about needing to improve his bard faction. ""Okay, okay, just one more lizard and I''ll level, I''m sure of it,"" I muttered as I continued to race around. It struck me that all I had said to my best friend in two hours was ""thorns dropping"" and ""need regen"" and ""mana check."" That''s just wrong....""

Of course none of that EEEVER happens in DAOC... right!

Noone EEEVER socializes in EQ... right!

In case you forgot what all the fun was about in EQ, you have to reread this classic article from Something Awful:

The Newbies Guide to EverQuest

Warriors should all be named after a particularly violent action or verb. ""Smasher"", ""Breaker"", ""Crusher"", and ""Basher"" are all valid names. If you''re playing as an Ogre Warrior, misspell the word as well (ie, ""Smashur"", ""Breakur"", ""Crushar"", ""Bashur"").

Hilarious....and scary at the same time..

If you''re looking for directions to the docks so you can go to Freeport in order to buy a Dragoon Dirk from a High Elf Cleric, type ""/shout LF DirTO D4FP, NTB DD FromHEC"".

/shout HAHAHA ROFLMAO that r0x0rz!

Funny article... and too true, most points fit to any MMORPG...

for the shout, i''m not good enough at l33t-speech... could you please translate?

Translatahtron 20XT6© came up with:

''Hahaha, rolling over the floor laughing my ass off, that rocks!''

There are some guides to l33tspeek around but I really don''t know where you can find them, seems that my memory fails me here. Try google.

And the translation for EQ speak is in the quote itself.

Its greatly exaggerated but you wouldnt be hard pressed to find something half as comLplex such as:

/WTT C3 for FBSS or Monk Epic; WTS Lamy 9K

Translated, that means the player is looking to trade the Clarity 3 scroll he found (a very nice mana regen spell for enchanters) for a Flowing Black Silk Sash (a belt with a good boost to attack speed) or for quest items for the Monk Epic weapon. The player is also selling the high end sword called Lamentation for 9,000 platinum pieces.

By the way, we''re thinking Tuesday Nights Everquest.

Shouldn''t that be Tuesday Nights Into Wednesday Mornings Everquest?

Tuesdays sounds good!

You know, I think about rejoining every once in a while. I remember fondly my beginings, and then I remember where I ended up: The endless planar raids to obtain a purple no drop piece of lewt, the endless requests for resses (I was a cleric), the people that would bitch at me when they died while I was healing someone else and it was due to their own stupidity. I even got 2 friends addicted while I was still enjoying the game, one of which lost his high-paying weekend support job with my company and now works at Walmart stocking shelves. He just quit a few months ago after years of playing. The other one was a stockbroker with a large firm before EQ, and has spent many times quitting and restarting EQ. He is now a Walgreens intern-manager and called Verant the other day to re-activate his account, but was on hold too long and huing up.

My main still exists on Bristlebane, though it''s not me. The game was a lot of fun at one point.

I did break my long-standing ''no MMOGs'' thought this past week and took up DAoC again. For some reason, I don''t feel as compelled to kill someone when I die in that game, perhaps it''s because the death penalty isn''t as severe.

Hmm, Tuesdays... I have night class on Tuesdays, but only till around 8, and that is if I bother to go. Plus I am done them in a month and a bit, so worst case I would have to solo to keep up level wise, then join up after I''m done.

EDIT: Also, what classes is everyone going to be, I will choose something that will complement the group the best, with the exception of a Shaman, as my primary character is already one and I would like to try something different.

I think it would rock if we went tank heavy with Sway''s Bard playing the regen song. If we did this we should be easily able to taunt the aggro off Certis''s rogue character ;P

Oh man, if we were all Beastlords... holy cow! That''d be like having 10 tanks with 5 of them being proc''ing pets!

We could pull multiples and have the pets sick one as we beat on another!

I''m going to make a new thread so we can get this all sorted out, this one is getting a little large.
