Not the \"American Idol\" Way

Here's a topic that I'm really passionate about.

Ruben Studdard won the American Idol competition fair and square. He clearly got the most votes. (No hanging chads here). The award was a recording contract. However, I believe Ruben got screwed. Read this little newsbit:

"The sales showdown between "American Idol" singers Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard will continue with the release of their respective albums on the same day, Billboard.com has learned. According to the RCA Music Group, the company has set an Aug. 19 release date for both albums, whose titles are to be determined. RCA Music Group chairman Clive Davis will executive produce both sets."

WTF?!!! What's the point of the contest? I understand the market demanded a Clay Aiken CD. I'm all about free enterprise. However, in all fairness, shouldn't Ruben get a "no compete" 2 week window or something?! It's like the person who won wasn't who the "powers that be" wanted to win.

As a result, the true winner, Ruben, will have to compete in the spotlight with that twerp, Clay "I'm not gay" Aiken.

Please let me know if I'm being unreasonable here.

I never watched the show (aside from one early episode I think) and to be honest I haven''t heard either of these guys sing. Are the record deals both from the same company? If not, that would pretty much explain it right there I''d say.

Maybe the better question would be why is such an intelligent and well spoken person so passionate about American Idol?

Actually my real question is, why are you suprised a record company screwed someone? If I ever have to deal with them the first rule Ill always keep in mind is that whatever they say, they''re lying. I have never heard a spokesman for the RIAA or any of it''s member companies tell the truth about anything when representing the company. The fact that he got screwed is no suprise to me.

I have the same question that Certis has: Are the on the same label? If not, then we know why.

Who cares? They aren''t going to have real careers anyway.

I think hair-guy from last year got a record deal eventually, but the competition between him and Kelly was no where near as tight as this years, supposedly. It''d be like making Gore and Bush Co-Presidents of the United States.

*cue the Odd Couple theme*

Bush: Where''d you put my pre-war intelligence proving WMD''s in Saddam''s hands?

Gore: Oh you mean that folder on the coffe table, I threw it out!

Bush: What?

Gore: You''re always leaving your things around, last month it was your Enron papers, the month before the keys to your Spy plane. Im sick of it, I threw it all out!

Bush: Oh youre gonna get a-whuppin now!

*Bush trips over footstool*

*Gore gets chased by Bush around the room while the Benny Hill theme plays*

If you''re a network exec, give me a ring, Ill sell you the rights.

To answer your question, they are both on the RCA Music Group label, although different divisions. Both Cds have the same executive producer, Clive Davis.

One got a million dollar contract and one got a record deal.

The two are not even remotely the same.

However doubtfull, it is possible that the record deal could be a contract for 2 million dollars. The likelyhood is the record deal is much less than a million dollar contract.

It''s really fascinating to see all of the passionate opinions about a rather mindless game show on Fox. I have coworkers who didn''t speak for nearly a week after the end of this season because they supported different finalists on this show. Where does American Idol get such a devoted fan base?

Anyone who watches that show and isn''t immediately compelled to stick a 1911a1 in their mouth and load it up with Jacketed Hollow Point rounds with full intent to pull the trigger has something wrong with them.

Has our society degenerated so far that we''ve come from enjoying harmless bloodsports like boxing, kickboxing, gladiator-styled combat, and marathon running to needing to live vicariously through some insipid canned pop star?

Pyroman, in case you were in doubt, this is very funny. Props. Mad Props.

Yeah, all this ''reality'' TV crap.....and yet, I watched ""Last Comic Standing"" last night....and god help me.....I enjoyed it.

Then, during comercials, I flipped one channel up....and there was a ''reality'' TV show for models! I couldn''t believe it.....

damn..they were hot. I will not watch that model show....I will not watch that model show....I will not.....

I''ve gotten to the point where I am boycotting all Fox reality shows. They have gona too far and gotten way too ridiculuos. I do wish i could spell better though........

I like ""Last Comic Standing"" because it is really not the standard reality show. It is me watching comics.
