City of Heroes
Just read the preview in PC Gamer and wow...much has changed since I last checked up on this MMOG. Looks like picking and choosing your superpowers to mold your character is out..replaced by 5 Archetypes.. Blaster (guns and hand weapons) Defender (healer, shields), Scrapper (fierce melee fighter), Tanker (damage absorbing hulk) and controller ("holds" enemies)... ugh how EQish. They claim the old system resulted in gimped characters.. which makes no sense if enough balance and playtesting were done.. why would anyone be gimped?
The as you gain levels (security levels) you can select from different powers under your beginning main and secondary power. Which actually might still turn out ok IF there are enough of them that are viable so you avoid clone characters.. if not...then it sounds just like every MMORPG allready done.
No PVP, Player Housing (headquarters), vehicles, playable supervillians..nada.. Basically it sounds like EQ with Superheroes.. replace dungeons with sewers and viola! instant MMORPG...<sigh> theres no point to this game other than to level up.
The one cool thing is the sidekick idea...where as a lower level player you can sidekick with a higher level character and as long as your in close proximity you will gain levels.. Though I suppose in reality this will never happen as the only worthwile people to sidekick with would be powergamers who will have their own sidekicks on their second computer tagging along..built in twinking!..ok ok maybe its not so cool afterall.
