I know this is flame fodder to drop a news bomb like this here, but I bought myself a Macintosh this weekend. I picked up the 12" PowerBook that Yao is flaunting on those commercials. For me it's a homecoming six or seven years in the making. I grew up on Apples and Macs. However, my Quadra 605 died in 1997 or so and I haven't owned one since. I started using PCs at work in 1998. I still do. But I've always had a crush on Apple.
I won't bother explaining why I wanted a Mac over something else. Computer platform choice is all about personal preference. Much like you can't rely on pure price/performance data to choose your console, you need to connect with your OS on a very personal level. Now that the Mac OS is built over a BSD Unix core, I feel very very comfortable when I log into my laptop.
I still have my workhorse PC desktop and plan to use it for most of my multimedia work while I'll use my Mac for Internet stuff and writing. That feels all backwards from the last time I owned a Mac, but hooking all my graphics peripherals (digital camera, scanner, tablet) into my portable seems counterintuitive. Any other Mac users in here?
