BF 1942 and desert combat.

Well that was an interesting weekend!

I knew I had a couple of friends coming down to have a Saturday night LAN game session, now normally we play UT2003 (Skyline map with zoom insatgib! Awesome!) and generals and a good bit of D2

Both my friends show up with BF1942 and seeing as how I'm in the mood for something different we all load up and I downloaded the desert combat mod.

What an absolutely awesome mod, it's rare that mods actually improve a game so much. The main case in point being the much extended magazine capapcity, the original was marred for me by how quickl you could go through ammo and need to find a spot to replenish. We actually wound up playing co-op mode till about 3.00AM on saturay night and then to 5.00AM last night.

Any game never mind a mod that can make me play that long (and avoid the temptation to log on with you guys on Saturday and Sunday for some D2) has to be pretty good! Two thumbs up from me! (apart from the helicopters, which are hateful beyond belief to try and fly!)

As I already stated a while: haven''t touched BF1942 anymore since DC0.3 is available. Much more enjoyable. I''m really impressed by what the team has pulled off here. Still don''t like the heli controls, but it''s good to know that there are people around who know how to handle them quite well. I simply focus on jets, tanks/jeeps or battle without vehicles.

Just recently played Desert Combat a week ago and have to completely agree. This mod is awesome.

It reminds me of the early days of counterstrike when people were just learning and having fun.

Would have to say that is the best online experince I have had yet. Sure you get the usual plane campers etc, though the game just seems to flow so well you hardly notice them.

Yeah I can''t wait for more maps that really cater toward the changes in game mechanics to come out. A lot of the current maps while fun don''t really function as well balance wise with the new gear.

Agreed. Great mod but the jets are a little fast for the smaller areas :O

I got to play some of the ""Day 2"" maps today, this is where they appear to have taken the regular maps and made some vehicle changes.

Some of them play a lot better, like no aircraft in one map which makes the battles even more pitched and lots of fun

Still can''t believe they are calling this an alpha, I have never had a crash or any performance issues yet. /me knocks on wood.
