Forget Syria; France may be next for punishment

From Yahoo!/AFP

Odd how Syria is getting nicer treatment than France is. And this is all in spite of France today saying that it was time to end the sanctions.

Personally, I think it''s a bad idea. Not because we really need France for much, but because it looks like we''re doing the international politics equivalent of ""nanny-nanny-boo-boo."" What we should be doing is telling France we appreciate the concerns and problems they had, and pulling them in to the fold. We can afford to be magnanimous.

That''s a technical term, right?

I would be magnanimous this time. If they did it again then I would bring down the sh*t hammer.

Why all the hatred against France, seriously? They weren''t the only country opposed to war. Chile''s president was one of those slated to vote in the UN''s decision, and mentioned he would vote against the war. Our president Vicente Fox didn''t explicitly say he was against the war, but it was the general buzz that Mexico was going to vote against it. Why do you guys hate France so much ?

Well, Mex, for me personally the dislike of France goes back a long ways...

One: They call pancakes, crepes. It''s just a thin pancake, people! Get over yourselves!

Two: Ground''s Keeper Willie said it best with, ''Bon jour! You cheese eating, surrender-monkies!''

Three: Who are they to snub McDonald''s? Oh, sure... I might be pissed if Sonic''s said they wanted to set up shop in the Statue of Liberty but then I might actually go to the Statue of Liberty.

Four: *Mutters something about extreme cowardice in the face of underwhelming odds.

Five: Personal Hygiene. No question. It''s called a shower. The rest of the damn civilized world uses one, they can too!

Why does the ""US"" hate France now, Mex? Good question but it''s probably just trendy. Much like our fascination with Australia in the Eighties, except we''ve taken the good-will and free love of then and bastardized into bitterness and hate.

Haha

Well, the deal is that it can be more salty, so you can make like giant tacos with chicken and pimento inside. It''s actually pretty good food.

""!Two: Ground''s Keeper Willie said it best with, ''Bon jour! You cheese eating, surrender-monkies!'' ""

Can''t argue with that I guess...

""Three: Who are they to snub McDonald''s? Oh, sure... I might be pissed if Sonic''s said they wanted to set up shop in the Statue of Liberty but then I might actually go to the Statue of Liberty. ""

Oh, I wouldn''t know. I just keep wondering why people always seem to forget that the Statue of Liberty was a french gift...

""Four: *Mutters something about extreme cowardice in the face of underwhelming odds.""

Well, they did fight a couple of weeks.

""Five: Personal Hygiene. No question. It''s called a shower. The rest of the damn civilized world uses one, they can too! """"

When I went to France I understood what''s up with the shower thing. Apparently, they''re having lots of water problems. It was even more notable when you''re a tourist - they charge you for taking a bath, for using the restroom, etc etc etc.

Ok, I''ll conclude it''s just trendy

I''ll also mention that I was treated like crap when I was in France. Yes they are freakin'' rude, and by the third day I wished I was back in Italy, where they''re really friendly. I actually took a photo of the only person who treated us nicely (a postal worker, no less). This was about two years ago.

France went out of their way to get people to vote against us. They were bribing countries to vote against us (I know we were bribing them to vote for us), and they told the newly freed Eastern European countries to shut-up because they were with us. More countries in Europe were for the United States than against us.

That and France hasn''t been a good friend. They haven''t been a friend for decades.

France sandbaged us in the UN. They could have easily done the proper behind the scenes talk. But they didn''t. I''m nearly sure they made sure they had some backing before-hand, but they jacked Colin Powell in the UN, and I''d guess, made the difference in his own mind.

Plus, they''ve hated us for years (or close to hate). Our culture is ''beneath'' them and they don''t mind saying so. How many American lives were layed down on their behalf? I''m not saying they should be our loveslaves, but anything other then this insulting bullsh*t should be in order.

There''s nothing about France I even consider liking.

Plus, they think Jerry Lewis is a god.

Interestingly enough most people who are pissed at the ''veto''-take of France seem to forget that it was Bush to state ages ago that the Iraq ''problem'' would be handled without the UN anyway if they don''t agree. Not a diplomatic move either.

More countries in Europe were for the United States than against us.

And I guess you''ll repeat that again and again despite having been proven wrong mathematically.

Grrr, this thread is just making more mad.

I think what really bothers me about France is that on the international stage, they are truly less then nothing, yet hearing them speak, you''d think they possess the might of a super world power.

They are cowards with an attitude. To me, that just begs for an ass kicking.

I thought Napoleon was a mastermind. I like those tasty little cream puff things, but as a collective nation, France can kiss my ass.

Wait, don''t they have nuclear weapons?

I''m not talking populations but governments.

Yes. However, they have no military power.

"Ulairi" wrote:

Relatively speaking. They have a military that could be comparable to Syria or Iran.

Looks like you didn''t get it the last time: about 2-3 months ago 8 European governments together made a statement on the Iraq situation and stated that they support the US position. You do know that there are more than 16 countries in Europe? You do know that only 5 of those countries were members of the European Union? 5 out of 15 EU members. The other three countries are going to join the EU sooner or later, but so will 7 other countries - even then it''s far from being a majority unless you consider 8 out of 25 a majority.

Whatever, France is still a wank-master.

Oh, and btw. Worse casino in Las Vegas? Yup, Paris.

Oh, and btw. Worse casino in Las Vegas? Yup, Paris.

Now, sir, you''ve gone to far. <glove slap> I demand satisfaction. Clearly the worst casino in Las Vegas is Circus Circus, though the MGM Grand should be widely spurned for perpetuating the Siegfried and Roy regime. Actually, the worst casino in Las Vegas is probably on one of those frightening side streets, called something like ''The One Armed Bandito''. Having stayed at the Paris I''ll agree that it''s not in the upper crust, and they did serve those friggin crepes all the time, but the view over the Bilaggio fountain was almost enough to redeem it.

Ok, at least in Circus/Circus you know you''re going to get some special Vegas cheesyness, and it doesn''t disapoint. Plus, free popcorn.

Paris was overpriced for mediocre rooms. Ok, great buffet, I''ll give them that, but their casino was tighter then Ratboy''s political view. If I could afford it, I assume the view of the Belligio fountain would be better....at the Belligio. Their special little attraction? Ohhh la la...a $10 ride up a fake Efiel Tower. Bleh, be a real Vegas junky and head up to the top of the Stratosphere (though that freaks me out, b/c it moves slightly).

BTW, I''m a huge Vegas kind of person and could talk all day about that place. Boy, do I miss it.

I''m 19 and I''ve been to Vegas for 4 New Year''s Eves, and well over 30 times total.
The worst hotel, barring the really sh*tty places that only the locals go to, is Circus Circus. Circus Circus is just gross and dirty.

The biggest problem with Vegas is that all of the hotels are starting to do the same damn thing. Ever since Ceaser''s Palace put in the Forum shops, everyone has put a themed shopping area into their casino. Everyone puts in a ""midway"" kids area. Where the hell is the innovation? I mean look at Mandalay Bay, it''s not one of the big names but at least they did something different. They have a really great aquarium.

As for the Belagio, it''s nice but once you''ve been to a great resort like the Atlantis in the Bahamas... Well, then it''s just kinda meh. The nicest thing about the Belagio is their Cirque Du Soleil show, O. O is by far the best show in Vegas and, I would venture to say, the best show I''ve ever seen.

If you''re going to Vegas you owe it to yourself to see O at the Belagio, Mystere at Treasure Island, and Danny Gans at the Rio.
Blue Man at the Luxor is also pretty good.

Man, you guys are making me want to go back to Vegas. :sigh:

Here''s some advice: don''t take a date to the Paris for dinner. Chances are she''d get sung to and charmed to death by one of those wandering singers.

O was sold out when we went last year, but I did get a chance to see Mystere. Wow! Also got to see The Blue Man group at the Luxor which was a surprisingly good show.

The best show I saw in Vegas was Penn and Teller.

Anything is better than watching somebody take a leak in the fountain outside of the Belagio, then get tackled by security while his unit is still out. That was a bad night for all involved.

The best show I saw was at the Crazy Horse II

I hear that. O has been the best show I''ve ever seen, and I''ve seen alot. Saw Mystere and thought that was great, too. But, my jaw still hurts from hitting the floor when O started.

Still want to see Blue Man Group.

As for your views on all of them being the same? Well, yes and no. Sure they all have shops and arcades. But they are so diffrent from each other. The bars and resturants couldn''t be any diffrent and they all have various unique entertainment options.

I''m so jazzed, I''m going to start a new Vegas thread.....
