I'VE FIGURED IT OUT!!!!

Remember all those problems I've been having with CTDs with 3D games (Raven Shield, Hitman 2, Splinter Cell, etc.)? Well, conventional wisdom and advice told me to upgrade the drivers. However, what I should've done (and ended up doing out of desperation) was to downgrade from the 40 series of Nvidia drivers to the 30 series. My thinking is this: I own a GeForce 3 and I think the 40 series is optimized for the GeForce 4.

I''ve had to do that before with Nvidia''s drivers. I remember particularly for Asheron''s Call 2, I was having problems with the UI (which kept disappearing) until I finally downgraded, and then later upgraded again when a new driver was released. To be honest, I think it''s a pretty common fix for GeForce cards, make sure you''ve downgraded your drivers!

Heh and I thought that was only a Radeon bug.

WTG Turbine!

I own a Geforce 2 MX400. A while ago I switched to 41.something (or whatever the latest WHQL-certified driver was). From that installation on my comp did randomly freeze every 4-7 mins depending on what I did under Windows. (Must have been related to windows operations, because it didn''t freeze when the system was idle or while I was playing games.) Switched back to 30.82 again quite soon.

Now I''m kicking myself; I''ve been holding off on buying the full version of Raven Shield until I cleared up the vid card problem and now the 48 Hour Madness sale on it at Go Gamer is over. Damn!
