Can we clear something up?

Let's just get out what being a liberal is. I don't think many of you here are liberals:

Liberal: a often capitalized : a movement in modern Protestantism emphasizing intellectual liberty and the spiritual and ethical content of Christianity b : a theory in economics emphasizing individual freedom from restraint and usually based on free competition, the self-regulating market, and the gold standard c : a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of the human race, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties d capitalized : the principles and policies of a Liberal party

That's what a liberal is.

Sounds very interpretive. I''m a liberal.

Here''s another definition from Webster''s Unabridged.

Liberalism -definition 2 - a political or social philosophy advocating the freedom of the individual, parliamentary systems of government, nonviolent modification of political, social, or economic institutions to assure unrestricted development in all spheres of human endeavor, and governmental gurantees of individual rights and civil liberties.

Like I said. I''m a liberal.

I guess this means every free market economist is a liberal, then.

Yeah, I''d be careful with slinging definitions around such broad issues..especially with political themes. I mean, I''ve met very liberal Republicans and very right-winged-religious Democrats.

I''m a social liberal and fiscal conservitve (and poor speller).
I mean I work in the financial markets now, but used to be a social worker.

Really, the bottom line to these sort of definitions are: if you agree with me, you''re right, and if you disagree with me, you''re wrong....and I don''t care what you call yourself.

You know what I like about you, Yomm. You make it clear that you''re close minded from the start. You don''t lure us in with feux openness. You''re proud of your narrow world view, and you stand by it. I appreciate that. It reminds me of myself.

(I shouldn''t need to add the or the but I will just to illustrate precisely how tongue-in-cheek I''m being)

Just so long as you agree with me.........

Oh, and believe me, we haven''t even come close to any topic where I''m about as narrow as can be, and proud of it.

Tell me, are you a moral liberal too? Maybe we could stir up things around here with some nice drugs, abortion and GM food discussions here

Do you mean GE food?

Genetically Modified

You crazy Americans sure do like labelling each other.

""He is a low-fat mocha liberal republican latte democrat""

Can''t we all just be poeple?

Yup...I''m a vortex of whirling thoughts...an engima of my own creation if you will. It''s a very complicated world I''d made for myself, but everything fits nicely in it. 8)

Drugs? Isn''t tobacco and (correct me if I''m wrong here, Elysium) coffee considered a drug? That''s legal, right? How many overdose deaths from pot have been reported? NONE

Abortion? I''m not a woman, so I can''t tell them what to do with their own body.

GE food? Well, the Canadians call mac and cheese ''Kraft'' dinners (eh?) So, there ya go.

Simple, logical, and of course, correct.

You mean the food that can feed the world?

Every thing we eat today has been genetically modified at some point in time.

With medium foam.

Except the Twinkie.

Coffee has a drug in it. Often it''s caffeine. Some people add sugar. Others add Methamphetamines. I suppose it depends.

I''ll have to learn how to serve all those things when I graduate.

Yeah, you can''t genetically modify non-biological matter.

Marrying your first cousin?
or better yet same sex marraiges?

I''ll have a growth hormone altered glass of milk Elysium since I dont drink coffee.

There''s an extra quarter in it for you if you dont spill any of it!

Yes, Penn and Teller are geniuses... I think I am going to have to buy that cool ""greatest people"" deck of cards. I bet Yomm is on there.

I have to say in all honesty,......I have no idea what I am? Aside form often drunk, I really could not say, if money was on the line, what category I fall under.
