Name a...

...TV show you stopped watching that you used to like but all of a sudden "jumped the shark" in your opinion and why.

I've got two:

Alias - The Super Bowl episode was working for me up until the last 10 minutes when everything got so turned around it became ridiculous.

Star Trek: Voyager - It's a shame that it took me until half-way through Season 5 that the show had dug itself a hole that it would never ever get out of.

Futurama - I realized that is was pretty dumb.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? - I just couldn''t take those stupid $100-$1000 questions any more.

South Park - Got old really fast.

Star Trek : Voyager - Same as above, they just ran out of good ideas for shows. After the Species 8472 (who were awesome) ordeal, it all went downhill.

Futurama - I realized that is was pretty dumb.

Thems fighting words son! I actually didn''t much care for it at first but grew to love it.

X-Files when the Aliens suddenly became real and not just ""these could be aliens"".

Odyssey 5 - I just watched the episode where Chuck''s wife dies. It was so obivious in the whole episode that this would happen, that I do not want to watch any further.

Dark Angel is the only show that springs to mind, no particular reason really.

X-Files when the Aliens suddenly became real and not just ""these could be aliens"".

Totally agreed. It was quite interesting at the beginning, but got really dull over time. I think the movie - which I found incredibly dumb - was the last thing I saw, then I stopped completely paying attention to the series until the last episode, which I watched for the sake of having seen the end.

Star Trek (all series with the exception of DS9) - I watched an episode of Enterprise a few weeks ago. I say without any hint of exaggeration that it was the worst hour of television I have seen in years. It was so fundamentally flawed in so many ways that I just felt wrong for having seen it.

X-Files - So good for a while. So bad by the end.

The Simpsons - To be fair, Season 2-4 was easily some of the best comedic television ever made. No one could be expected to maintain that level.

ER - From interesting drama about the conflicts of medicine to ridiculous melodrama with soap opera tendencies.

Six Feet Under - Loved the first season for its conflict, then it got so wrapped up in its own artsy style as to lose all meaning.

Law and Order - Wow, used to just be a terrific show about the criminal justice system. Now everything is ripped from the headlines, with paper thin differences between media portrayed reality. I don''t know why they even bother with the ''fictional people and events'' disclaimer at the beginning of the show. It''s obvious bullsh*t. This episode is not about what would happen if Martha Stewart killed someone *wink*!

I hate to click the post button, because I''ll think of a dozen others later.

I''m with Elysium with the every Star Trek series except DS9, especially Enterprise, watched the first 3 or so episodes and decided not to tune in anymore.

And this hurts me to say (as I''m a huge fan) but the latest series of Angel has left me a bit cold (I hate Connor!). I hope it gets picked up for another season, but please KILL CONNOR!

Enterprise, supposedly, will radically change starting this week. The ""new direction"" we''ve heard tell of is supposed to bring in elements that made DS9 good (story-arcs, political intrigue, character development) and reducing or dropping what hasn''t worked (alien-of-the-week, standalone episodes, wussy captain, other things borrowed from Voyager). Of course, all of this goes out the window in May with the dreaded ""Borg Episode."" Then things go back on track with the continuation of the arc started in this week''s ""Judgement"" right up until the season finale which will supposedly change Enterprise''s (the ship, not the show) mission.

But, we were promised a new direction with Voyager when the Borg showed up and ended up getting 34 of DD...er...7 of 9.

Unless this big change includes getting rid of the writers/producers responsible for the dreck issued thus far, count me out.

Jolene Blalock is the only good thing going for Enterprise, same as Jeri Ryan (and Roxann Biggs Dawson) was the only good thing going for Voyager.

Hmmm wonder why that is?

Simpsons - Its just really really crappy now. I watch it maybe once every 2 or 3 months and it barely ever elicits a giggle when back in its prime it had me busting out big belly laughs all the time.

John Doe - Was cool for about 2 episodes before it completely played out everything they could do with the concept.

For reference, ""Judgement,"" ""Bounty,"" and ""The Expanse"" are ""the arc"" episodes. ""Horizon"" features a lot of backstory on the underrused helmsman. ""Regeneration"" is the controversial Borg episode. ""First Flight"" is a tale about the development and testing of the Warp 5 engine. The remainder are stand-alone episodes.

Very fun thread!

X-Files - after the movie. I even enjoyed it a bit farther than you guys did but it started going down hill after the movie. The last straw was the First Person Shooter episode. Jesus

Futurama - It jumped the shark way too quick, it had so much potential and instead relied on gimicks about halfway through the 2nd season.

Simpsons - It jumped so bad, its not even funny. Its worse than the Xfiles, started so excellent and now so sh*tty.

And this hurts me to say (as I''m a huge fan) but the latest series of Angel has left me a bit cold

Now thems fightin words!

Though I hope this storyline comes to a good close soon. Its always about to close then the last 5 minutes of one episode go ""Aha!"" This ""Aha!"" lasts for another 5 episodes.

I need a few episodes where the good guys do some good stuff. They are always are just struggling to survive one plot point to another.

Conner can go. I dont care. Its good to have someone who inadvertantly thwarts the hero temporarily. Conner tends to always neuter him.

We dont really care about his character or his actions. We only tolerate him because he is the son of a character we care a great deal about.

X-Files - their big mistake was trying to keep the thing going with Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish. It''s not that they aren''t good actors, but I''d bonded with Mulder and Scully. Why would you try to keep it going with a totally new cast?

Simpsons - Like everyone else here, the Simpsons used to give me such great, unexpected belly laughs. What happened recently? It''s just not funny.

E.R. - This show used to do such a good job of telling a different story each week, all about the patients that came in and out of the hospital. Somehow, the writers seem to have decided that a Days of Our Lives atmosphere was better. Honestly - how often can they get me to care who sleeps with whom? They might as well go all the way and introduce the inevitable soap plotline where someone says, ""Jessica - I''m not only your husband - I''m also your twin sister!"" ""But my twin sister was beheaded in a freak snowshoeing accident!"" ""They were able to reattach the head to a homeless man''s body...""

Mad About You - Jamie contemplated cheating on Paul, and it lost its sparkle. I just didn''t like these people much anymore. The fun of the show was the bantering interaction between two people who really love each other in a long-term relationship. Who wants to see the big, bad, real problems that can surface in a long-term relationship? All you have to do to see those is look around at the real world.

Deep Space Nine - I didn''t like this show as much after they killed Jadzia Dax. Call me silly - DS9 was still pretty good, but it felt like there was a conflict between writers and Terry Farrell, and the writers won. Maybe not what happened, but what it felt like to me.

And don''t even get me started on the Seven of Nine and The Doctor show - I mean Voyager.

I must agree on Angel, except that I still watch it. Conner is a big whiny girl though. I enjoy every episode in which he mouths off, then get''s his ass kicked.

Yeah, that was kinda a blow to the show. Especially since the ''substitute character'' (Ezri or whatever the name is) happened to be incredibly uninteresting and annoying. I don''t even want to elaborate on the final episode (rather the ludicrous second half of it.)

It''s so easy to hate on the Simpsons now, but I still consider it the best show on TV, bar none. No, it''s not where it was during seasons 3-7, but I still never miss an episode. Apparently, millions of other people have stuck with it too.

I must agree on Angel, except that I still watch it

Don''t get me wrong I still watch it but I''ll not be that annoyed if I miss an episode, however if I miss Buffy I''m bummed for the rest of the week! (Don''t know how I''m going to cope after the end of this series, it''s been like a friend to me over the last 7 years. )

Don''t know how I''m going to cope after the end of this series, it''s been like a friend to me over the last 7 years.

That''s just sad.

Well, I sorta feel the way he does, but Ive only really been watching it about a year and a half. Its like that with any really really good show, it makes you sad it leaves. But Id rather it leave now than later when its barely hobbling around deficating on itself.

But back to my point, I just wanted to point out that all shows are like that. IMO, all art is really like that, its about empathy. And when you feel for something its sad to see it go.

You cant tell me youve never had a game you werent sad to see end. Its like that, except youve been playing the game for 7 years.

Well, I sorta feel the way he does

Cheers for the support, I feel a vote for Errland as our UN representative coming on

YES, I''m not the only one! Dam those aliens scewing up all the good government conspiracy plots lines, I tell ya it''s a conspiracy.

Alias got boring real fast. coming down from Le Fem Nikita I lost all interest in alias about the time I realized they are taking the ""Oh no, an American girl could never hurt anyone with a machine gun when she could kick them instead"" approach to action scripting.

Enterprise: *sigh* Talk about let downs.

Anything that is voyeurism without porn is pretty much out, but then I never started watching that stuff really so guess that doesn''t count.

Wow, on the one hand I can relate, on other-hand I can''t believe I have been watching that show for 7 years, how many hours is that anyway... *shudder*.

I think the Simpsons still has the occasional sparkling moment but they seem to be down down to about one every-other show.
""Animal Surviver"" where the lion and Gazelle alliance seemed to have broken down, had me rolling :). Oh god how many years is that? I don''t want to think about it, TV is so evil.
