Big Budget Blockbusters

I've seen a lot of great threads about movie guilty pleasures, and hidden gems cinema, but let's face it, the hit movies rake in the money for at least one reason - everyone sees them. I know it's not very stylish to pick a movie everyone's seen as a favorite, but certainly some widely popular cinema trips your trigger. What big budget blockbuster lights your candle?

Since it's my topic, I get to steal the obvious answer: Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (just liked it better than TTT)

The Matrix - Pretty obvious one this
Lord of the Rings-Fellowship of the Ring - More focus on the characters than TTT
Armageddon - Cheesy Hokum but I don''t care!

LotR, both of em.
Pearl Harbor. Planes. love war planes.
Minority Report. Loved this movie.
Spiderman and Daredevil. Kinda hokey, but I grew up on comics.

Hmmmm...

Definately Spiderman.
Star Wars : Attack of the Clones (Shutup, it wasn''t that bad!)
And even though everyone has said it already, both LoTR movies...incredible stuff

Shutup, it wasn''t that bad!

Oh God, but it really really was. And I quote:

Anakin: I don''t like sand. It''s coarse and rough and
irritating, and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here
everything''s soft... and smooth...

Oh, here''s another

I''m haunted by the kiss you should
never have given me. My heart is beating, hoping that kiss
will not become a scar.

Ah, and another Anikin classic:

I should be! Someday I will be... I will be
the most powerful Jedi ever! I promise you, I will even
learn to stop people from dying.

Yeah, those are bad words, but thank God the direction and performances were so much worse. For shame, asands2, for shame....

Elysium, I''m friggin cryin I laughed so hard.

Finally someone was able to say effectively what I''ve been trying to about that film.

And I''m super easy to please when it comes to Star Wars.

Is the point of this to name a big-budget blockbuster you liked but was regarded as carp by the reviewers?

I can''t think of any, really. The only one I can recall off the top of my head is Deep Impact (TV watchers from last night can guess why); it was the moderately better version of the Armageddon idea.

Star Wars... Visually they are great (ref.: Episode 1&2), however in my opinion they have lost its magic that was in Original 3 Star Wars... Also I hate to admit it but it seems the same thing is happening with LOTR. I mean Fellowship was great, but Two Towers has turned from the fantasy into typical action movie, the only thing that was good is the skits-frantic ""Smiggle""! Actually if you look at it, same thing happen to MIB... I hope the same fate would not be bestowed on Matrix trilogy! Anyway big budget... Independence Day was good in its day, Minority Report was great as the AI, but I'm not sure if AI was a big budget...

...ahh! Can't think or seem to remember any movies, well that what happens when you watch too much Anime!

Gladiator and Braveheart, ''nuff said.

""Are you ready for a war!!!""

One of the best lines in a movie ever.

Why don''t we have a super collectors edition DVD of Braveheart? A nice 6 hour film with tons of deleted action from the battle scenes.

Speaking of movie quotes, how many good quotes are there in ""Tombstone""? That movie has a ton of em.

""You tell em Hell''s coming!!! And I''m coming with it!!""

Star Wars, LOTR, The Matrix, Blade/2.

Oh and what do you think of the new Avatar.

1) ""Bah your crazy man""
""Mmmuhuh huh! I think ive come to the right place""

2) ""I told you. Its my island.""

The 13th Warrior has some classic lines too. Too bad it wasnt a big blockbuster.

1) ""Luck will often save a man if his courage holds.""
""Spend one night''s time with the Wendo and then talk to me of courage.""
""I thank the lord for his advice. Though, I dont recall hearing any exploits of his... apart from killing his brothers.""

2) ""She was a small collared camp girl. Probably looked like that one''s mother.""
""My mother... was... a pure woman from... a noble... family. And I... at least know who my father is... you... pig eating son of a whore.""
""How did you learn our language?""
""I listened!""

3) ""Only and Arab would bring a dog to war.""
""The dog can jump!""

4) ""I will die a pauper. I have only these hands.""
""You will be buried like a king.""
""A man might be thought wealthy if someone were to draw the words of his deeds so that they may be remembered.""
""Such a man would be wealthy, indeed.""

5) ""Stupid fools!""
""You, you could have killed him at will!""
""Yes.""
""But why the deception?""
""Deception is the point. Any fool can calculate strength. That one has been doing it since we got here.""
""He''ll fear what he doesnt know.""
""As you said, foolish... and expensive. We will miss Angus tonight. We will miss his sword.""

6) ""Wars are won in the will. Perhaps you have been fighting in the wrong field? Slaughter them till you rot. You will accomplish nothing. Strike the heart.""

7) ""I was wrong... these are not men!""

Actually seeing as how it''s just starting on TV in the background I must add Goodfellas to my list.

You think I''m funny? I''m funny to you? I''m a clown to you?

Oh and what do you think of the new Avatar.

mmm comics Buffy. Yum.

2) ""I told you. Its my island.""

Stephen was such a great character. What an awesome movie.

Catherine McCormick is hot, too.

Two more that were just on:

The Rock

&

Con Air

From the Nicholas Cage action collection.

I''m assuming these were blockbusters at the time:

M*A*S*H
Blazing Saddles

don''t get me started on quotes from Blazing Saddles...ok...ok...just one:

Sheriff (upon hearing Gene Wilder''s character wake up hung over in a jail cell): ""Are we awake?""

Wako Kid: ""We''re not sure.....are we....black?""

Sheriff: ""Yes we are.""

Wako Kid: ""Then we''re awake....but we''re very confused.""

Later:

Wako: ""So what''s a dazzling urbinite like you, doing in a rustic setting like this?""

ahhh, I could go on and on...........

Mongo only pawn in game of life.

Fifteen is my limit on schnitzengruben!

Jim: Boys, lookee what I got here.
Bart: Where the white women at?

That whole inuendo exchange between the sherriff and Madeline Kahns character is classic

Ok just one more or so (resiting everyones favorate badges):
You''ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons.

and

Mongo only pawn in game of life.

Ahh, good to see the love.

Khan: (in the dark) ""So, is it twue what they say about you people being...gifted?""

(Zipper heard being undone)

Khan: ""Oh, its twue its twue, its weally twue.""

Gabby Johnson: The sheriff is *GONG*
Howard Johnson: What''d he say?
Sam Johnson: I think he said the sheriff is near.
Gabby Johnson: No, dagblamit, the sheriff is a *GONG*

And my all time favorite:

Governor: We have to save our phony belony jobs and do something immediately...immediately..harumph harumph.

Everyone else: harumph harumph!

Governor:(points) I didn''t get a harumph outta that guy!

Headly Lamar: Give the Governor a harumph.

Startled Offical: Harumph!

Governor: You watch your ass.

OK if we''re also going to mention blockbusters of yore then I''ll have to add Princess Bride to that list

So many good lines

""Ha-ha, you fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is ""Never get involved in a land war in Asia,"" but only slightly less well known is this: ""Never go in against a Sicilian, when death is on the line!""-Vizzini

Pulp Fiction, Austin Powers (all of them), Ace Ventura.

Rush Hour 1/2!

...WaterWorld?
