Inexplicable popups

I'm getting a single pop-up whenever I open Internet Explorer. It has nothing to do with my home page and for the life of me I can't find the file that's launching it. I deleted all my cookies, ran the newest version of ad-aware and looked at my processes list for anything out of place.

The pop-up ads range from spy cams to dating services to those lame fake windows error screens. I can't figure it out, anyone have any idea what it may be?

There''s a fix for that issue to be found here or here or here or here.

Sorry, ain''t my helpful day.

You might try Spybot - Search & Destroy it seems to do a much better job overall then addaware (allso a fine and nobal program).

sorry to ask that, but have you looked in your installed programs list for anyhing suspicous?
Also look in your registry into

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Run

Maybe some addon for IE starts itself in there. There also must be a key for IE plugins in the registry, I don''t know which one though.
Since you already ran Ad-Aware these are my best guesses.

Seems to have worked like a charm! It found tons of stuff ad-aware totally missed. Thanks Griffon.

I grabbed spybot a few weeks ago, and was really impressed by what it can do. Not only get rid of spy/ad ware, but clean out all the places where you can leave tracks, like last opened file listings, and stuff like that.

Just for the record, Phoenix owns. The only page I have seen that Phoenix can''t handle correctly are really badly done clan sites and zone.msn.com (simply because they block you because youre not running IE). Plus its faster than IE, even on Windows in my experience. Tabs rock, as do the various extensions like RadialContext. Remember how the Sims interface works? Its called pie menus, and RadialContext turns the right click menu into a pie menu, it works great. Also the themes are good, and you can get any plugin for it that you can for Netscape. The download is very small too ... sorry, just felt like gushing, because I wuv it, yes I do! Who''s a good browser? Who''s a good browser? You are!

The one thing I''m missing with Phoenix (I figured it would be worth a shot) is that when I click my middle mouse buttong I don''t get the scroll thingy I do in IE. You know, move your mouse up and it scrolls up etc.

If Phoenix could do that I might be sold. Without it I feel kind of naked.

Don''t judge me!

I''m not sure, but K-Meleon MIGHT support that. Like Phoenix it''s Mozilla-based and features an in-built pop-up blocker, unlike Phoenix, however, it''s using Windows-native (MFC) classes for its UI, thus being slightly faster.

It''s a Logitech i-feel optical thankyouverymuch! Of course it''s a wheel mouse, in IE I click the wheel and get my scroll thingy.

Ah I see, and you like that scroll thingey better then just spinning the wheel? Odd, but ok, that always annoyed the heck out of me prior to having a wheel. Sounds like your off the hook for a lynching though, NEXT!
